A former chorus girl and featured performer in Broadway musicals, she met Audrey Meadows long before they did "The Honeymooners" (1955) together. They were once cast in a summer stock production of "No, No, Nanette.".
With Art Carney's passing in 2003, she became the only remaining survivor of "The Honeymooners" (1955) quartet. Jackie Gleason died in 1987 and Audrey Meadows in 1996.

She got the role of "Trixie" as a result of appearing in a Clorets breath-mint commercial. Gleason saw the commercial, and was impressed by her. She was cast on "The Honeymooners" without having an agent.
Her acting career began at the age of nineteen when she joined a touring company of the play "Stage Door". She later appeared in musicals, including "Plain and Fancy" in 1956.
