Meredith is about to turn Grey’s Anatomy — or at least Seattle — on its side! At least that’s one potential takeaway from the ABC drama’s Season 13 poster.
The official one-sheet (exclusively obtained by TVLine and embedded for your viewing pleasure below) features Ellen Pompeo‘s indefatigable heroine literally split in half, with the right side of her body replaced by the iconic Seattle skyline.
In a bit of a departure from years past, the striking, turquoise-tinged image is not accompanied by a tagline, »
Ellen Pompeo is the title star of “Grey’s Anatomy,” but has she ever considered leaving the hit ABC medical drama? No — thanks to Hollywood ageism.
“My decision to stay on ‘Grey’s’ was based solely on age,” Pompeo said in a recent interview. “At 33, I was wise enough to know my clock was already ticking in Hollywood.”
Pompeo, 46, has starred as Dr. Meredith Grey on the Shonda Rhimes series for all twelve seasons and is confirmed to return to the upcoming thirteenth season this fall. She was 35 years old when the show debuted in 2005.
The actress says she got a “super late start” in the industry and admits had she been younger when she landed the starring role on the ABC medical drama, “I probably would have done my time, then gone out to search for other things.” She added, “[I] was definitely aware of how challenging it would be to find other roles in my late »

If you're a Grey's Anatomy fan, there's probably not much you don't know about the show. But seeing as we're in the doldrums of Summer, we thought we'd put together some of the lesser-known facts about the medical drama. If you do already know some of these trivia bits, then pat yourself on the back, because we dug deep. The guts and gore you see on screen are not human but are in fact a mix of cow organs, chicken fat, and red jello. Fun! Rob Lowe was offered the role of Dr. Derek Shepherd but turned it down to star in a CBS drama called Dr. Vegas, which was canceled after five episodes. Kevin McKidd (aka Dr. Owen Hunt) is Scottish, and hearing his accent will mess you up. Miranda Bailey was the only role written with a character description ("tiny with blonde curls"), but when Chandra Wilson auditioned for the role, »

“Grey’s Anatomy” Season 12 ended strong with big ratings big cliffhangers and a big shocker — Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres, is leaving the show.
Chatting Friday at the Atx Television Festival in Austin, Texas, Beers said that there is a chance Ramirez could come back. “Bottom line is we love Sara, we love that character and anything can happen,” she said.
Another shocking moment, though on-screen, was Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) hooking up with Riggs (Martin Henderson) in the penultimate episode of Season 12 — though in the season finale, there was a tinge of foreshadowing at a love triangle with Maggie (Kelly McCreary). Asked if Meredith will continue to hook up with Riggs, Beers simply said, “God I hope so.”
“That was certainly one of my favorite moments of all of the shows this year, and I can tell you that at the table read, the reaction from the actors was, ‘Oh my god!’ It was just one of those great moments of total surprise,” Beers — who’s a non-writing producer on “Grey’s” — said, emphasizing that she does not know what is planned for their relationship in Season 13.
“I think she deserves some love,” Beers said of Meredith, who’s been single since her husband Derek (Patrick Dempsey) was killed off in Season 11. “She spent a lot of time saying ‘I don’t need it, I’m fine, my life will go on,’ and there was something about that, that I felt so pleased and so satisfied. I feel like there’s something incredibly delicious about getting to watch this, so fingers crossed this is the tip of an iceberg.”
Besides “Grey’s Anatomy,” Beers also spoke to Variety about “Scandal,” which was pushed to midseason, rather than its usual fall timeslot, due to Kerry Washington’s pregnancy. With the schedule change, the political drama will not air at the same time as the presidential election, but Beers says she’s not concerned. “Personally, I think it’s actually really fun where we are because running parallel has its challenges, too. We never even discussed that. I’m just excited to see what happens next. We never even talked about that, so it’s a good question.”
The schedule change also results in the demise of ABC’s Thursday night “Tgit” programming block with new drama “Notorious” slotted into “Scandal’s” 9 p.m. window.
Even though “Tgit” is gone this fall, Beers can’t wait for “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How To Get Away with Murder” to return to TV. “I’m just excited for the shows to be back on the air. It’s a long summer,” she laughed.
Offering a bit of a tease on Shondaland’s fall shows, Beers said: “The little bit that I know, there’s some good stuff coming up.”

In the Season 12 finale of Grey’s Anatomy, Arizona might just have had the best idea ever: “Let’s all be happy.”
She only meant that she and her ex-wife, Callie, should toss out their custody arrangement and do whatever it takes to put a smile back on not only both of their faces but daughter Sofia’s, too. However, it was such a good suggestion that we can’t help but hope that some other characters take it, too.

Pompeo’s news — she earns north of $300,000/episode, our sister site Deadline notes — comes weeks after another long-running Grey’s star, Sara Ramirez, announced that she would not be back next season as Callie, choosing instead to take “some welcome time off.”

Nathan seems poised to be Meredith’s first significant post-Derek fling on Grey’s Anatomy. He may even turn out to be something more than a mere fling. But there is one thing that he can and will never, under any circumstances, be: another Derek. Take it from Ellen Pompeo, who plays Shepherd’s widow.
“There will only be one McDreamy ever,” she swears to TVLine. “You know, he’s not replaceable.”
Oh, we know. Viewers do, too. And luckily, so does Grey’s boss Shonda Rhimes. »

If you or I were Grey’s Anatomy‘s Jo, we probably would have admitted to non-fiancé Alex a long time ago that we wouldn’t marry him because we were already hitched to an abusive spouse we feared would hunt us down if we divorced him. The way Karev loves us her, he not only would have understood, he’d have been supportive as hell.
Shonda Rhimes did not know about Sara Ramirez‘s desire to take a break from Grey’s Anatomy until three days before the finale aired. For the first time since 2013, ABC’s primetime Thursday lineup this fall will not be entirely furnished by Rhimes’ Shondaland production company. With Scandal on an extended hiatus and not premiering Season 6 until midseason, ABC is comfortably nestling between Grey’s Anatomy and How to Get Away With Murder the real life-inspired freshman drama Notorious, which stars Piper Perabo (Covert Affairs) and Daniel Sunjata (Graceland) and, more notably, is a Sony Pictures Television/ABC Studios co-production, »
If you're sad about Sara Ramirez departing Grey's Anatomy, imagine how Jessica Capshaw feels. Nearly a week after the news broke that Ramirez would be leaving the show after 10 years, Capshaw addressed the news in a tweet: "Congrats on 10 incredible years! I wish @SaraRamirez the very best & I celebrate what Callie has given to all of us." Ramirez, who has played the role of Dr. Callie Torres on the ABC series since 2006, announced the news in a statement on Thursday, the same day the medical drama's 12th season finale aired. "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey's Anatomy and ABC, but for now I'm taking some welcome time off. Shonda [Rhimes]'s been so incredible to work for, and we will definitely continue our conversations! I send my love to Ellen [Pompeo], the rest of the cast and crew, and I look forward to always »

It’s time to give Dancing With the Stars credit where it’s due.
A few months back, as I compiled my gallery of Season 22 odds, I found it difficult to suppress my scoffs as I scrolled through a seemingly dismal lineup of celebrities. From Geraldo Rivera to Doug Flutie, it seemed as though the Season 22 roster was the ABC series’ least impressive yet, resulting in a general feeling of “meh” as the premiere approached.
Now, to be fair, Geraldo had no business stepping even his pinky toe on the ballroom floor, and Doug — though he exhibited great sportsmanship — was »
We may never get to see what the future held for Callie Torres and Arizona Robbins after the latter set aside her custody battle win to show a little kindness to the former in the Grey's Anatomy season 12 finale now that Sara Ramirez has chosen to take off Callie's scrubs for good, but at least we know that things behind the scenes on set between the actors were never as acrimonious as they'd become for their characters. Days after Ramirez stunned fans of the long-running ABC soap by revealing her exit shortly after the season 12 finale finished airing, her co-star Jessica Capshaw is showing the actress nothing but love. And we've got to admit, it's making us miss the good old Calzona days even »
