Movie Review - Safety Not Guaranteed (2012)

26 December 2012 8:41 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Safety Not Guaranteed, 2012.

Directed by Colin Trevorrow.

Starring Aubrey Plaza, Mark Duplass, Jake Johnson, Karan Soni, Jeff Garlin, Jenica Bergere, Mary Lynn Rajskub and Kristen Bell.

Synopsis:

Three magazine employees respond to an unusual classified ad from a guy seeking a companion for time travel.

The premise of Safety Not Guaranteed is fairly simple – Jeff Schwensen (Jake Johnson),  an arrogant reporter at a Seattle Magazine heads out to the country to research for an article on an advert placed in a newspaper ("Wanted: Somebody to go back in time with me... Safety not guaranteed"). He takes along two interns with him, the shy nerdy Arnau (Karan Soni) and the awkward, self-contained Darius (Aubrey Plaza). They find the poster: the paranoid, initially ridiculous Kenneth (Mark Duplass), but when Darius signs up to be his partner in time travel she starts to see more to him, and the three begin to wonder »

Good morning!

It's the most wonderful time of the year, when your favorite Lgbt authors talk about the best gay book they read in 2012. Alison Bechdel's Are You My Mother? was a popular one, because it's really freaking good.

Mary Lynn Rajskub went on the podcast Our Fifteen Minutes to discuss her recent coming out, although she'd probably hate if you called it that.

Naya Rivera looked gorgeous on the red carpet of the Trevor Live last night. We have a video interview coming later today. For now, settle for this photo.

Here are some of the other women who attended the event.

Recently I went through all my stuff in the entire house and went through everything damaged or unuseful or I don't love. That's how I ended up looking through this box of photos and then. Oh! it's the hot waitress from El Torito Grill. I dated her. Yeah, that happened. I mean I liked my life in the '90s but I didn't feel like going back there. The picture of this girl and I, realizing I used to date her and I had blocked it out, shoved it into a black hole of my unconsciousness. There it was staring at me in the face, taunting me. "Oh don't act like you forgot me. Here I am!" — Kickin' It Mary Lynn Style

UK Poster for Safety Not Guaranteed with Aubrey Plaza & Mark Duplass

22 November 2012 5:00 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Safety Not Guaranteed is by far one of my favourite films of the year, and more than that, one of my favourite films of all time.

With phenomenal performances from Aubrey Plaza and Mark Duplass in the leads, the film debuted at Sundance back in January – you can read our five-star review here from Sundance London – and was released in the Us over the summer to brilliant box office numbers.

For a long time, we thought it wouldn’t be getting a release on our shores, but then Vertigo Films did us all a huge favour and secured its UK distribution for a Boxing Day release, and we will all very much be the better for it.

After seeing the UK trailer land last month, digitalspy have now debuted the new UK poster, boasting just a handful of the universally praiseworthy reviews it’s been earning.

The Mentalist Sends Mary Lynn Rajskub to Rehab

12 November 2012 3:53 PM, PST | Boomtron | See recent Boomtron news »

I have a bit of a logical issue with the following news story; not the news itself, but the logic behind the plot The Mentalist will be involved in and the character Mary Lynn Rajskub will be playing. I can’t decide if what I’m feeling is justified or if I’m just being picky. When it comes to entertainment, there’s a certain suspension of disbelief that is required to properly enjoy certain aspects of the medium. But there is a line that can be crossed where suddenly what is being presented to us on screen is so unbelievable that the entirety of the plot can collapse. I believe Rajskub’s character is part of one such line crossing.

According to TVLine, Rajskub is guest starring as a rehab patient whose roommate is murdered. Now, I have no problem with this as is. Let whoever is murdered be murdered. »

Exclusive: Aubrey Plaza Talks Safety Not Guaranteed Blu-ray

30 October 2012 5:34 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Aubrey Plaza Talks Safety Not Guaranteed, on Blu-ray and DVD today!

As we enter November and December, we're already hearing a lot of people complain that 2012 was a wash at the box office. Sure, there has been some abysmal fare leading up to this point, but there have also been some great pieces of modern art bestowed upon us over the last couple of months, and Safety Not Guaranteed stands atop that list as one of the best seen in 2012.

It's high concept told through a more truthful and humanistic lens, which makes its conclusion one that will give you goose bumps. It's the kind of comedy that arrives at its point of destination with a lot of real heart, and it will leave you cheering for all the characters involved. Because you really do come to care about them. Especially Aubrey Plaza's Darius.

This is a breakout performance for the young comedian, »

UK Trailer & Images For ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ Starring Aubrey Plaza & Mark Duplass

28 October 2012 1:30 AM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

Safety Not Guaranteed has spent the year touring the festival circuit, gathering great feedback from critics and the public. It also featured at the inaugural Sundance London to further praise, so we’re very glad to hear it’s getting a full – yet probably limited  - big screen release in the UK on December 26th. Directed by Colin Trevorrow, the film is inspired by a real-life advertisement in a magazine that says:

Mark Duplass takes on the role of lead actor and producer, and the film also stars Aubrey Plaza (Parks & Recreation), Jake Johnson (New Girl), Mary Lynn Rajskub (Little Miss Sunshine), the legendary Jeff Garlin and Karan Soni. I loved the look of this earlier this year and so I’m equally eager – and pleased – that we’ll get to see it as a full release in the UK, check out the new trailer:

Safety Not Guaranteed is by far one of my favourite films of the year, and quite possibly of all time.

For a long time, we thought it wouldn’t be getting a theatrical release in the UK, but having had a strong summer run in Us theatres, the film is officially set for a Boxing Day release in the UK, and now Vertigo have sent over the UK trailer, along with a great new image.
