The Wolfman reboot gets underway, heading straight-to-video

1 November 2011 3:29 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Although it managed to secure a place in our Top 10 Films of 2010, Universal's remake of The Wolfman from Captain America: The First Avenger director Joe Johnston received a mixed reaction from audiences and critics, pulling in just over $142m at the global box office from a reported budget of $150m. Nevertheless, the studio are pushing on with their plans for a sequel / reboot, with THR's Heat Vision announcing that filming on the tentatively titled Wolfman got underway in Bucharest, Romania yesterday under new director Louis Morneau (Joy Ride II, Hitcher II: I've Been Waiting).

As you can probably guess from Morneau's previous credits, the new film is intended as a direct-to-video feature and stars Guy Wilson (The Open Door), Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood) and Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars). Take a look at the synopsis:

Universal starts Shooting new Wolfman Film

31 October 2011 3:09 PM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Universal Pictures has officially started on production for a new untitled Wolfman movie that will go straight to DVD and Blu-ray. The new werewolf thriller is set to be released on on Halloween of next year 2012. Even though it wont be coming to the big screen there's no way it could be any worse than Universal's last Wolfman film, which was a giant werewolf turd. I was so disappointed in that film. This new movie will in no way be connected with the latter, so it's something that might be worth looking forward to, if your into these kinds of horror films like myself.

Untitled Werewolf Thriller stars Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta, The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface, Primal Fear), Ed Quinn (True Blood, Eureka), Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars, Walker Texas, Ranger), Guy Wilson (Almost Kings, Little Black Book), Adam Croasdell (Supernatural, East Enders) andRachel Dipillo (Law & Order, »

That Untitled 'Wolfman' Reboot Now Has a Cast as It Begins Production in Romania

31 October 2011 1:54 PM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Back in June it was first rumored Universal was looking to re-write and rework Michael Tabb's would-be sequel to the failed 2010 effort The Wolfman starring Benicio del Toro and directed by Joe Johnston into a new werewolf franchise. A month later, Moviehole reported Joy Ride 2: Dead Ahead, The Hitcher: I've Been Waiting and Carnosaur 2 helmer Louis Morneau would direct for a fall shoot. Now, it has become a reality as Universal announced the start of production on what they describe as an "all-new supernatural Untitled Werewolf Thriller" with Morneau directing. Filming will take place in and around Bucharest, Romania and the film won't be heading to theaters as the studio confirms it will be part of their DVD Originals line alongside such titles as The Scorpion King: Rise of a Warrior and the upcoming January release of [amazon asin="B005TK0WG8" text="The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption"] starring Ron Perlman and Billy Zane. They remade The Wolfman a couple of years ago and did a decent job with that. This new werewolf movie from Universal takes place in 19th century Europe so I’m not sure why they didn’t just make a sequel, but this looks good. Here’s what we know about it at this point:

Leave it to Universal Pictures to make an announcement on Halloween about a new werewolf movie they've got cooking. While the company known for giving us Frankenstein, Dracula, The Wolfman and The Creature From the Black Lagoon, amongst many other monster movies, has a new lycanthrope film in development, it doesn't have an official title just yet.

Untitled Werewolf Thriller is the working description for the movie. It will also bypass theatrical release and instead head directly for home video, arriving in time for watching during the Halloween season of 2012. Shooting has already started in and around Bucharest, Hungary.

The movie stars Stephen Rea (V For Vendetta, The Crying Game), Steven Bauer (Scarface), Ed Quinn (True Blood, Eureka), Nia Peeples (Pretty Little Liars), Guy Wilson (Almost Kings), Adam Croasdell (Supernatural) and Rachel Dipillo (Law & Order). Blu-ray Review: The Caller – This Is One Call You Won’t Mind Missing

24 October 2011 12:30 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

The humble telephone has often been used to great effect in the horror genre. There is something inherently creepy about a disembodied voice at the other end of the line. A number of films have set their whole premise around the nuisance call; When A Stranger Calls, One Missed Call and not forgetting the Scream movies. Brit director Matthew Parkhill and writer Sergio Casci throw a time bending twist into their phone based horror The Caller, released on Blu-ray and DVD today, with stars Rachelle Lefevre, Stephen Moyer and Ed Quinn, all better known for playing vampires in True Blood and the Twilight Saga.

The Caller follows newly divorced Mary (Rachelle Lefevre) as she moves into a new apartment to start a new life. She begins to receive phone calls from a mysterious woman she first dismisses for a wrong number but as the calls continue Mary eventually begins to »

The Caller

Stars: Stephen Moyer, Rachelle Lefevre, Luis Guzmán, Ed Quinn, Lorna Raver | Written by Sergio Casci | Directed by Matthew Parkhill

There are some horror films that assault your senses from the get-go and then there are those that are slow-burning, teasing out the story until an inevitable horrific conclusion – The Caller is most definitely the latter. Seemingly playing out like a movie of the week melodrama for half of its running time, the film follows divorcee Mary (Lefevre) as she moves into a new apartment with the hopes of getting on with her life without her abusive ex-husband (Quinn). Starting a new relationship with the charismatic John Guidi (Moyer), she begins to receive phone calls from a mysterious woman called Rose.

At first dismisses them for a confused caller, but as the calls continue the lonely Mary eventually strikes up an unlikely friendship with the woman. However as the calls become more regular, »

The Caller - DVD Review

Ring, ring. Better pick up the phone. maybe not after watching this Twilight Zone inspired thriller. The Caller is a film that takes its low budget and provides genuine chills, especially considering that the villain is a disembodied voice from the past. Mary Kee (Rachelle Lefevre) is in the middle of a divorce from her controlling husband Steven (Ed Quinn). He.s not too happy that Mary has moved out into a new apartment, but he appears to be even madder that she took the dog with her. Her new apartment is a bit run down and even sports a rotary dial phone. One night she get a call from a lady named Rose (Lorna Raver) looking for »

Steven Bauer and Stephen Rea in The Wolfman Reboot

17 September 2011 2:25 AM, PDT | WorstPreviews.com | See recent Worst Previews news »

We've been reported that Universal Pictures is working on a direct-to-dvd sequel to Joe Johnston's "The Wolfman," that grossed only $140 million globally on a $150 million budget and has a lousy 33% fresh rating. It turns out that the sequel has been reworked and the film is now a reboot of the franchise. Now, during an interview with Steven Bauer (Scarface), the actor revealed that he has been cast in the movie, and so have Stephen Rea (V for Vendetta) and Ed Quinn ("Eureka," "True Blood"). "What I could say is that Stephen Rea is already cast," said Bauer. "The great Irish English actor, Stephen Rea is in the film. And another American, Ed Quinn is in it too. So, I'll go up to Romania in a few days. I'm leaving for five weeks. I don't know the director quite yet, because they're sending him this week. And it's a Universal project, »
