It's no Mad Men, but this tale of 60s student flatmates is shaping up nicely
Ithink there's going to have to be a moratorium on shows set in the 1960s until we've all had a chance to let the memory of Mad Men fade. Let time sully its perfection just a little before you serve us up another.
There was much to recommend White Heat (BBC2), the six-part series by award-winning writer Paula Milne, about a gang of 60s flatmates who are brought back together 40 years later by the death of one (we know not which yet) in the first episode, and whose stories unfold in flashback. The set-up is ripe and luscious: seven very different lives (possibly chosen for precisely that reason by their landlord, Jack, as a social experiment – though there is just as much chance that he just wants to bang one of the girls. Screenwriter Paula Milne says her own experiences inspired the new BBC2 drama about a group of people through the decades
Sixteen years ago, BBC2 broadcast Our Friends in the North, a much lauded tale of four friends and social and political change that began in the 60s. Next week the channel will attempt a similar feat with White Heat.
Kicking off in 1965, the drama focuses on a group of flatmates as they move through the decades to the present day. With acclaimed screenwriter Paula Milne behind the scripts, it is perhaps little wonder the drama is being thought of as Our Friends in the South.
"As a woman, this piece is semi-autobiographical – so that is what you see on screen," said Milne. "The inevitable comparison is with Our Friends in the North, and that is a brilliant drama and showed the audience is interested in long television stories. But it »

When LucasFilm released Star Wars: The Complete Saga on Blu-ray back in September, Panasonic teamed up with the studio to package this set with its Blu-ray players. It seems Panasonic and LucasFilm are continuing their partnership, with Panasonic packaging Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D Blu-ray along with its 3D Blu-ray players.
While an insider claims the 3D Blu-ray will be available with Panasonic products as early as this spring, it seems a September release is more likely, since Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace just opened in theaters two weeks ago. Nothing has been confirmed by Panasonic or LucasFilm as of yet.
Fox Home Entertainment, which released Star Wars: The Complete Saga last year, has not released an official street date for the Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace 3D Blu-ray. We'll be sure to keep you posted with any »

Synopsis:
Naboo, a peaceful planet governed by the young, elusive, but wise Queen Amidala (Portman), is being threatened by the corrupt Trade Federation, puppets of an evil Sith lord and his terrifying apprentice, Darth Maul (Park). Along the way, they acquire an apprentice of their own in the form of young prodigal Anakin Skywalker (Lloyd). They also encounter Jar Jar Binks (Best), a goofy, »
