It's no secret where Wes Bentley disappeared to after his success at age 21 in "American Beauty." The actor struggled with an addiction to drugs like heroin that caused him to miss out on a big chunk of his film career and led to the end of his relationship with his then-wife Jennifer Quanz.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bentley opens up about his drug addiction that led him to pass on work with directors like Christopher Nolan, Tim Burton, Tony Scott and Ang Lee. Fortunately those opportunities aren't gone for good, as Bentley recently landed a role in Nolan's upcoming "Interstellar."
"I put up such a wall that I didn't even go and meet with these great directors whom I respected and admired so much," Bentley says of the decade he lost to drug addiction.

There's a reason for that roughly 10-year slowdown: Bentley, now 34, was struggling with drug addiction.
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bentley admits that his sudden success with "American Beauty" was too much for his 21-year-old self to handle. He turned to drugs as a means of escape, and became hooked on heroin "in a matter of days."
"There was a point where I had written off survival," the actor told People in 2011. "I was so numb, I was okay with it. I thought, this is what I am going to be -- dead."
