Tekken: Rise of the Tournament Prequel in Development

22 May 2012 8:39 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Crystal Sky is planning a prequel to last year's video game adaptation Tekken, which is currently titled Tekken: Rise of the Tournament.

Prachya Pinkaew is on board to direct, although don't expect any Tekken stars to sign on. According to Crystal Sky CEO Steven Paul, the prequel will cast actors who look like the characters from the popular video game series. Crystal Sky doesn't have a distribution deal in place as of yet, but the studio is aiming for a theatrical release.

The studio also announced that production will begin this summer on Dracula: The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse in Romania. Pearry Reginald Teo (Necromentia) is directing, although they have not cast the lead yet. Here's what Steven Paul had to say about this horror tale, which he hopes to be the launching pad for a new franchise.

"It's the first installment in a franchise about a young, »

Previews & cast updates

10 April 2012 4:09 PM, PDT | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

A few quick mid-week updates.

Eric Stoltz directed tonight's episode of Glee, "Big Brother," which airs at 8 pm on Fox. His next episode will be 3x19, "Prom-a-Saurus," which airs next month.

He also wrote a guest column in this week's Entertainment Weekly. Snippet:

When I first came to the Glee set last season, I could tell they’d been through a great deal - the actors were close-knit and a bit guarded, and rightly so. Who was this redheaded stranger coming into their world, asking questions and taking notes? Before I started directing a show, I try to spend a few weeks hanging around the set, getting to know the crew and talking to the actors about how they like to work. Who is fussy? Who is left-handed? Who wants to go home early, and who is the perfectionist? There is no “right” way to work, and familiarizing myself with »

Blood & Chrome and general updates

28 March 2012 6:54 PM, PDT | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

Eventful week. To play catch-up:

The big news that every site reported in a slightly different way is that Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome will be a digital series and a TV film, but not a TV show, at least not one produced by Syfy/Universal Cable Prods. You have probably read the Deadline article by now.

With the possibility that Universal may still shop B&C around, it doesn't sound like they have any immediate plans to make more of it beyond the existing pilot/web series/Mow.

No word yet on a release date, but Battlestar Wiki reports that we'll be seeing Blood & Chrome as a web series first and then as a TV movie.

Doug Drexler posted this the other day (full post at the link):

If sets had been built for this show, it would have cost 6 million easily, instead of only the 2 million it did cost, »

Esai Morales in Fairly Legal, Husbands & Grimm get second seasons, The Hunger Games premiere, and more updates

21 March 2012 3:10 AM, PDT | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

It's been a while since the last proper news roundup, so some of the news today won't be all that new. Posting it anyway in case anyone missed it elsewhere.

Fairly Legal is back tonight at 9 pm on USA. Esai Morales guest stars in the season premiere and will be appearing in several more episodes. Other BSG and Caprica folks appearing on the show this season include Michael Hogan, Ben Cotton and Zak Santiago. And yeah, Michael Trucco is still a regular.

The Voice of TV has some recent Bts pics, and Buddy TV talked to Esai (more at the link):

What do we need to know about Esai Morales' character?

Esai Morales: I'm playing Aaron Davidson, thank you. No hablo espanol in this show... I am a politician, District Attorney. I am, I guess, a bit of a quintessential slimeball. Sleazebag is how I've been described, »

27 February 2012 11:00 PM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Producer and race car driver Ali Afshar discusses his drag-racing drama Born 2 Race, due out on DVD February 28

There are all kinds of ways for one to break into the entertainment industry, and producer/actor/writer Ali Afshar took a rather interesting route. After breaking into the drag racing circuit as a teenager, Ali Afshar moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of acting, appearing on Saved by the Bell: The New Class, Power Rangers Turbo, and in films such as Godzilla, The Siege, and Three Kings. He also continued racing throughout the years, launching the company Esx Motorsports, and his new project Born 2 Race, is a perfect marriage of both racing and filmmaking.

Born 2 Race, which is currently available on VOD formats and arrives on DVD February 28, gives us a legitimate look at the drag racing world, and the super-charged Subaru imports that Ali Afshar himself used to »

Aleks Paunovic on Arctic Air, Bomb Girls picked up, Falling Skies update, interviews with Scott Porter & William B. Davis

7 February 2012 5:14 PM, PST | CapricaTV | See recent CapricaTV news »

Aleks Paunovic is back in Arctic Air tonight. It's not the first time that he has appeared on the show, but he will have a more central part in tonight's episode, which airs at 9 pm on CBC in Canada. Other familiar faces will probably show up, too. CBC has a new interview with Aleks. Snippets:

You play Jim McAlister on Arctic Air, what is that guy all about?

Jim is a fun-loving best buddy with a big heart. He's stoked to have Bobby (Adam Beach) back in town. He's a prospector and trusts Bobby to the fullest. He'll do anything to protect his friends, family and the North.

What is it like working on a all Canadian production as opposed to a U.S. production that is being filmed in Canada?

Comparing Ryan Gosling’s Drive with Mark Dacascos’ Drive

26 January 2012 10:26 AM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

The Ryan Gosling-starring Drive, our film of 2011, is now on DVD and Blu-ray. But how does it compare to the 1997 Mark Dacascos film of the same name…?

As regular readers will already know, Drive was our favourite film of last year. Its atmospheric direction and cinematography, ice-cool soundtrack and superb performances immediately sent it to the top of our list. And now, we’re ready to fall in love with the film all over again as it comes out on DVD and Blu-ray.

In preparation, we decided to take a look at another film called Drive, a Mark Dacascos straight-to-dvd action flick from 1997.

At first glance, you might think that the two films have nothing in common whatsoever aside from their titles. After a second and third glance, you’d probably still think the two films have nothing in common. But peel back the layers, and you’ll find »

A quick round of updates.

Netflix has finally launched in UK and Ireland and both Caprica and Battlestar are available for streaming. If you know people there who haven't seen the shows, you can nag them to do it now, while Netflix is offering a free month of trials.

Blackstone, with Carmen Moore, returns with the season two opener, "Blood Is Thicker Than Water," tonight on Aptn in Canada. The episode should air at 9 pm Et on Aptn East, West, and HD, and at 8 pm Pt, but check your local listings to be sure.

Carmen Moore was also one of the people who made an appearance in Arctic Air yesterday. If you haven't seen the pilot, check it out. There are more BSG people in the first five minutes of that show than there were in the opening scenes of BSG. And they share scenes and everything.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette talked to Syfy's Mark Stern at the Winter TCA Press Tour and they have an update on Blood and Chrome. Kind of, anyway. Here is what he says (more at the link):

Is the project dead? Read more after the jump. ...

"No not at all," said Syfy original programming president Mark Stern. "We're trying to figure out the economics right now. I love it but we're trying to put various things together to see how we're going to get it made. My hope is we get it figured out." (...)

Stern said the pilot was a good test to prove the technology could be used in series, although he acknowledged it will likely take a year to get the show on air after it's ordered due to the amount of post-production work that will be required on every episode. »
