Ironclad Sequel Ironclad: Battle for Blood Sells at Cannes

17 May 2013 11:16 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Well this is a surprise. I didn’t even know they were making a sequel to the 2011 medieval siege film “Ironclad” starring James Purefoy (“The Following”) and Kate Mara. But they are, and Jonathan English, who co-wrote/directed the first film, is doing the honors again for the sequel, “Ironclad: Battle for Blood”. “Battle for Blood” will star “Game of Thrones” alums Michelle Fairly and Roxanne McKee, with Danny Webb: Ironclad: Battle For Blood is a hellacious ride featuring the ultra-violent medieval action that has characterized this epic series. With a new battleground and a new enemy, one of the few survivors of the Great Siege of Rochester Castle fights a brutal battle to protect his family’s estate from fierce Celtic raiders. Ironclad: Battle For Blood promises to deliver the same ferocious, adrenaline-filled action and gory kills that defined Ironclad. That synopsis doesn’t exactly say who the »

When asked whether he was contracted for the sophomore season, THR reports he said, “I believe so, but that’s not a guarantee." The Following, a brooding, breakneck fever dream about a serial killer cult leader and the dogged ex-fbi agent on his trail is coming to an end tonight (Tuesday, 10pm, Sky Atlantic). Well, we say end – but as it's been picked up for a second series, there's every chance we will be left in some kind of limbo instead of watching Joe Carroll (James Purefoy) write his final chapter.

Over the past 14 weeks, it has been classic shout-along viewing. Don't go into that unlit cellar alone! Turn your phone back on! Let the FBI know where you are! TV Review: The Following Season One Finale, 'The Final Chapter'

30 April 2013 | The Daily BLAM! | See recent The Daily BLAM! news »

The Following is a serial killer drama series created by Kevin Williamson (The Vampire Diaries, Dawson's Creek, Scream) and stars Kevin Bacon, James Purefoy and Shawn Ashmore. The series will return for a second season on Fox. The FBI estimates there are currently up to 300 active serial killers in the United States. What would happen if these killers had a way of communicating and connecting with each other? What if they were able to work together and form alliances as they left a trail of blood across the country? What if one brilliant and charismatic, yet psychotic serial killer was able to bring them all together and activate a cult of believers following his every command? Season One, Episode 15 I've been hating The Following for the past few weeks but I'm happy to say that at »

'The Following' finale: Who lived to see Season 2 in the final showdown between Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy?

30 April 2013 12:45 AM, PDT | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Watching "The Following" is a little bit like watching a horror movie where the heroine runs up the stairs instead of out the door... which is oddly appropriate. Kevin Williamson's "Scream" series mocked horror tropes while embracing them, and "The Following" takes a similar stance on the craft of writing and the archetypes and cliches that Edgar Allan Poe originated.

Often driven by emotion instead of training, Ryan (Kevin Bacon) tends to make rookie mistakes here and there: showing up alone to meet a serial killer in an abandoned lighthouse at night never did anyone any good. Still, despite our occasional shouts at the television as Ryan goes left when we know he should go right, the series' first season ended on a deeply unsettling -- and, thus, extremely satisfying -- note. "The Following" didn't necessarily turn out to be the show we expected it to be, which isn't a bad thing. »

[Warning: Spoilers ahead from Monday's season finale.] In the end, it was a fiery conclusion to Joe Carroll's story on Fox’s The Following -- or was it? Fifteen weeks of high-stakes action led to a showdown between former FBI Agent Ryan Hardy (Kevin Bacon) and serial killer Joe Carroll (James Purefoy). It was a fight to the death between the two nemeses, with the conniving-yet-sometimes charming Joe finding himself on the unlucky side of things as the towering flames engulfed him. Explosions weren’t enough to solidify Joe’s death, with the FBI making a point to mention that

The Following Season Finale Review: Finishing the Story

29 April 2013 10:02 PM, PDT | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Going into the season finale of The Following, I had a lot of reservations.

The series off in a thrilling manner, pitting good vs. evil... revealing the scary possibility that followers were everywhere... showing us that Poe masks were crazy creepy... and teasing Joe Carroll's master plan, which involved his mass cult of killers and his nemesis Ryan Hardy; it was all a fantastic way to suck viewers in. And Kevin Bacon and James Purefoy have been outstanding.

But in the back half of episodes, the show began to tread water in this never-ending cycle of rescuing Joey... fighting random followers... and Ryan never being any step closer to catching or facing off with Joe.

Sure, Ryan Hardy remained a bad ass, but the elements that had accompanied the darkness of the episodes weren't as horrifying after awhile, even if they continued to be graphically violent.
