‘The Rover’ Premiere: Producer Praises Robert Pattinson as ‘Consummate Actor’

13 June 2014 11:58 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

After a starry premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, Robert Pattinson, Guy Pearce and director David Michod brought “The Rover” to The Regency Bruin Thursday.

Michod told Variety that he hadn’t been familiar with Pattinson’s previous work. “Rob just came in and did a beautiful audition for me that was both vulnerable and completely alive,” he said.

“This proved that seeing him work with Guy Pearce and Scoot McNairy, we realize he’s a consummate actor,” added producer David Linde. “He’s in the ‘Twilight’ movies and people don’t think of him in this way, but as you see in this movie he’s the real deal.”

For Pattinson, he said his goal is to work with good, ambitious directors. “These roles just don’t come up that often,” he said. “A script like this is so rare, I mean, it’s in the top five scripts I’ve ever read. »

Cannes Film Review: ‘The Rover’

17 May 2014 3:42 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

The promise of Australian director David Michod’s 2010 debut feature, “Animal Kingdom,” is amply realized in “The Rover,” a post-apocalyptic road movie of sorts set a decade after some unspecified cataclysm has turned the world — or at least one far-off corner of it — into a mercenary no-man’s-land. Tipping its hat to George Miller’s “Mad Max” trilogy while striking a more somber, introspective tone, Michod’s sophomore feature isn’t exactly something we’ve never seen before, but it has a desolate beauty all its own, and a career-redefining performance by Robert Pattinson that reveals untold depths of sensitivity and feeling in the erstwhile “Twilight” star. A commercial challenge due to its mix of explicit violence, measured pacing and narrative abstractions, the pic should earn the warm embrace of discerning genre fans and further establish Michod as one of the most gifted young directors around. The Rover’ trailer HD: Robert Pattinson and Guy Pearce in David Michôd’s Australian Outback-set thriller (photo: Robert Pattinson in ‘The Rover’) The Rover, David Michôd’s futuristic, Australian Outback-set thriller that will premiere at the 2014 Cannes Film Festival (Midnight Screenings), has a new trailer. Guy Pearce and Robert Pattinson star in this dark tale about a middle-aged man, Eric (Pearce), hunting down the members of a gang who have stolen his last and most prized possession: his beat-up car. Pattinson, best known as the sparkling vampire Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series, plays a (now) former member of the gang, Rey — left behind to die after he’s seriously injured in a fight. See The Rover trailer below. The youthful Rey, in fact, is unlike the other gang members. “If you don’t learn to fight," Eric warns him in a hard-to-understand mumble, "your death’s gonna come real soon. »

Watch: Robert Pattinson Fights for His Life in New ‘The Rover’ Trailer

17 April 2014 3:29 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Robert Pattinson completely sheds his sparkly vampire image in the dark, suspenseful new trailer for his upcoming film “The Rover.”

The crime drama, set in the Australian desert, follows main character Eric (played by Guy Pearce) as he sets out to track down a gang of criminals who have stolen his last possession. Along the way he meets Rey (Pattinson), an injured member of the gang who is left behind near the start of the trailer.

The clip ominously states that “anarchy is loosed upon the world,” and from the looks of it, Pearce and Pattinson’s characters will come up against some rather formidable enemies along their journey. “If you don’t learn to fight, your death’s going to come real soon,” Eric warns Rey.

The film, written and helmed by David Michôd, is based on a story by Michôd and Joel Edgerton and also stars Scoot McNairy, »
