Well, this is interesting... a couple of days ago a script review of Javier Gutierrez's remake of The Crow slipped online, and let's just say it wasn't pretty. Said review made it sound as if this new Crow was a 180-degree turn from the original; however, star Luke Evans tells a different tale.
"[The Crow] was a very poignant film from my childhood, which I remember vividly," Evans tells Coming Soon. "The soundtrack, also. It was such a solid performance that Brandon Lee gave. It was a very tragic end for somebody that probably would have had a very promising career... I'm Eric Draven. I'm the same character. Obviously, he's been refreshed and brought up to date. We're reimagining it to a certain extent, but the story and the plot is mostly the same."

When it comes to script reviews for upcoming films that haven't even begun filming yet, you have to take the info with a grain of salt as anything can and will change. Our friends over at Latino Review got their hands on the script for Javier Gutierrez's remake of The Crow, and their reaction isn't pretty.
Luke Evans has been tapped by Relativity Media to star as Eric Draven in the story based on the James O'Barr comic book series that was previously adapted as a 1994 Miramax movie starring Brandon Lee. In case you're one of the ten people on the planet who haven't seen the original, it follows a man who returns from beyond the grave to avenge his death.
Ed Pressman of Pressman Film and Kevin Misher of Misher Films are producing with Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Jeff Most. Dan Farah of Farah Films will executive produce with Relativity's Tucker Tooley. »

So many names have been tossed around over the years for The Crow reboot, but news started to pick up over the last few weeks. You may have heard rumors of Tom Hiddleston and Alexander Skarsgard, but someone else is going to be playing Eric Draven. According to Deadline, Luke Evans is currently in negotiations to start in Relativity’s remake of The Crow.
Evans was previously seen in The Raven and Immortals, and recently signed on for Universal’s new Dracula movie. Before he appears in Dracula, we’ll see him as the villain in Fast & Furious 6 this summer. Apparently, Evans has been the first choice for the role, but his busy schedule was causing conflicts. In order to accommodate his schedule, the movie will not begin filming until next year.
Back in January, 2012, Relativity Media announced that F. Javier Gutiérre would direct the movie and Jesse Wigutow would write the script. »

More casting rumors abound for the lead role in F. Javier Gutierrez's remake of The Crow. Turns out the previously reported Tom Hiddleston has flown the coop, and now Relativity Media is circling "True Blood"'s Alexander Skarsgard to rise from the grave for vengeance.
We'll just file this one under rumor for now because nothing is official. It's amazing the devil of a time the powers-that-be are having in terms of nailing down a star. Could Hollywood's best and brightest be afraid of the long talked about Curse of The Crow? Who knows. When we know more, you'll know more.
If signed, Skarsgard will play Eric Draven in the story based on the James O'Barr comic book series that was previously adapted as a 1994 Miramax movie starring Brandon Lee. In case you're one of the ten people on the planet who haven't seen the original, it follows a »

If the producers behind the remake of The Crow wanted to generate a little attention, then they certainly know how to do it. Because Loki himself – Aka Mr Tom Hiddleston – is in early talks to play Eric Draven in the new film. According to The Wrap’s sources, the Hiddlestoners’ favourite has already met with producers including Ed Pressman, Kevin Misher and Ryan Kavanaugh and submitted a make-up test he sorted out at home. The next step is apparently a formal test with filmmakers including director F. Javier Gutierrez. The script, currently credited to Warrior’s Cliff Dorfman, will follow the same basic story, adapted from James O’Barr’s dark graphic novel about rocker Draven and his fiancée, murdered on Devil’s Night only for our hero to be brought by as a supernatural superhero to exact vengeance. This new take on Draven’s tragic tale has been flapping »

Chicago – Any list of the most influential films of the ’70s that doesn’t include Terrence Malick’s brilliant “Badlands” is incomplete. It’s one of those cinematic works that’s so important to its era and how it influenced filmmakers that saw it that it’s hard to put into reviews in a brief review such as this one. It is iconic in the way Malick took the familiar (it’s based on a true story that was well-known at the time) and made it artistic. It’s also a great selection for The Criterion Collection, joining Malick’s “Days of Heaven” and “The Thin Red Line” in the most important series of Blu-rays ever released.
Rating: 5.0/5.0
On the surface, “Badlands” could have been another take on “Bonnie and Clyde,” star-crossed young lovers united and divided by violence. And it would have been a beautifully made film with great »

Today‘s Matt Lauer this morning interviewed filmmaker John Ziegler, who has spent a year poring through evidence in the Penn State pedophile scandal to make a documentary he hopes will clear the name of the late legendary head coach Joe Paterno. Now, Paterno’s only alleged transgression was not being aggressive when a graduate assistant (who’d later become a coach) brought to his attention an “encounter” in the football showers between former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and an underage boy that sounded like molestation. We’ve written numerous stories on the subject, breaking stories about a feature film in the works that will likely re-team Scarface director Brian De Palma and Al Pacino for Happy Valley. That is the working title of a film based on Paterno, the book written by Joe Posnanski. Paterno was unceremoniously fired after the scandal shocked the nation, and the Ncaa took unprecedented actions against the school, »

1973’s Badlands marked the first feature film from writer/director Terrence Malick and it squarely put him on the path to his current cinematic sainthood. Over a forty year career and a scant six feature films — three more are on the way — Malick has established a well deserved mystique as the closest thing America has produced to a true European style auteur. Frankly, no one else is even close. Ironically, one could make a case that the artistic influence of this Oklahoma farm boy has its deepest resonance far beyond America’s shores. Directors such as Turkey’s Nuri Bilge Ceylon and Mexico’s Carlos Reygadas reverently evoke Malick’s pantheistic zen, while Thailand’s Apitchapong Weerasathakul’s slow, stately dolly shots of weeds and bushes make him perhaps Malick’s most direct artistic descendent.
Back in the U.S., the cult of Malick has grown to such glowing stature »

Could it be that the long-planned "The Crow" remake isn't so dead-in-the-water after all? It's being reported that James McAvoy is in talks to join the flick as leading man Eric Draven, though the news hasn't been confirmed by Dimension Films.
Bloody Disgusting was the site to report the McAvoy news. His is the first actor's name to be attached to the project since Bradley Cooper departed years ago. F. Javier Gutierrez is slated to direct this iteration of the film.
McAvoy has a lot on his plate right now with the upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past," so if he does sign with "The Crow," this movie likely won't happen until after that.
"The original 1994 'Crow' film holds a special place in my heart," producer Edward R. Pressman said back in June. "The current film is a 'reinvention' of James O'Barr's graphic novel for the 21st Century. We're »

Twas the night before Oscars and all through the town, everyone was stirring and no one was down. Indeed, Hollywood seemed ebullient on Saturday night as limos careened back and forth up and down Sunset Blvd. from the Chateau Marmont to Soho House and up to the Beverly Hills Hotel carrying actors, actresses, and celebrities. Meanwhile, at the Dolby Theater, in rehearsal, you could hear the cast of “Les Miserables” and a 48 person strong chorus belting out show tunes, and Dame Shirley Bassey polishing up her “Goldfinger” for the big event. At Madeo’s on Beverly Boulevard, Charles Finch held his annual pre Oscar dinner, sponsored by Chanel, and featuring Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain. Finch, the British impresario, is also the son of late great actor Peter Finch, and he knows a thing or two about theater. The result is that his parties are like little presentations, cozily lit, super-salons. »
