Topher Grace Says Depiction Of Drug Use Was Culprit In 'Take Me Home Tonight' Release Delay

23 December 2010 9:48 AM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

An '80s-set comedy starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, Chris Pratt and Michelle Trachtenberg sounds like a cinematic slam dunk. Sure, it's not going to put up "Avatar" numbers at the box office, but there's definitely an audience willing to dole out good money to see that young, hip cast party like it's 1988. And yet "Take Me Home Tonight" (formerly titled "Kids in America") has languished on a shelf since completing principal photography in early 2007.

Well, Grace and co. can finally breathe a sigh of relief, because the film will finally see the light of day (or, rather, the dark of theater) on March 4, 2011. MTV News recently caught up with Grace, who's also a producer on "Take Me Home Tonight," and asked him to talk about the film's long odyssey to the big screen.

"[The film came from] this idea that every generation had a film that looked about 20 years back, »

Take Me Home Tonight Trailer And Preview Images

22 December 2010 1:29 PM, PST | AreYouScreening.com | See recent AreYouScreening news »

Take Me Home Tonight, starring Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler and Teresa Palmer opens nationwide on March 4th, 2011, and I want to give you a little preview. While this isn't the sort of thing that would normally jump onto my radar, I'm generally a fan of Topher Grace, and there's something about the recent MIT grad who works at the video store that resonates oddly with me.

Take a look at the trailer and a couple images, as well as the official synopsis below, and let me know what you think of this one. I think there's some potential here, though it may just be a brilliant job of putting together a trailer, and if nothing else, I'm interested to know what Grace and Anna Faris can make out of the thing.

The longer I do CTU the more I realize that certain information on Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s projects will come out in the press, and quite often it’s not completely correct or it’s premature. Because CTU is the official site for both of them, it’s important that I release accurate information. That sometimes means I have to wait until I get official word from the studios, Chan and Jenna, or their camps before I can report certain news here on the site.

So if I’m not reporting it, it’s normally because I can’t…yet, and today’s story fell into that category…

A couple of days ago, the Hollywood Reporter announced that Rosario Dawson had joined the cast of Chan and Jenna’s movie ‘Ten Year‘. At that point, it wasn’t official yet, but I got word today that »

Rosario Dawson and Lynn Collins Go Back to School for ‘Ten Year’

17 December 2010 1:09 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

Hollywood hotties Rosario Dawson and Lynn Collins are the latest classmates to sign on for “Ten Year,” a drama about friends reuniting (you guessed it!) a decade after their graduation.

Dawson and Collins join co-stars Jenna Dewan, Kate Mara and Anna Faris to round out the female contingent of the group, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Brian Geraghty, Justin Long, Channing Tatum, Chris Pratt, Chris Pine, Anthony Mackie and Scott Porter comprise the (somewhat heftier) guys’ side.

Ten Year” will mark the directing debut of screenwriter Jamie Linden (who previously penned the uber sentimental “We Are Marshall”), and will shoot this month in New Mexico.

Dawson is still riding high from the recent hit “Unstoppable,” and will next appear in “Zookeeper,” slated to release in July 2011.

Collins most recently appeared in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” and just wrapped a role in “John Carter of Mars,” which hits theaters in the summer »

Rosario Dawson And Lynn Collins On Board For Ten Year

17 December 2010 6:58 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

The high school reunion drama Ten Year is managing to attract some of the most talented thirtysomething actors working right now, despite the fact that the premise sounds nearly identical to the swiftly cancelled show My Generation and that it's written and directed by Jamie Linden, the guy who wrote the sappy We Are Marshall. Channing Tatum has been on board from the beginning as a producer and star, and over the past few months he's been joined by his wife Jenna Dewan, plus Kate Mara. Anna Faris. Brian Geraghty, Justin Long, Chris Pratt, Chris Pine, Anthony Mackie and Scott Porter. You may have noticed they're a little light on female names there, so they're making up for it now by adding Rosario Dawson and Lynn Collins, according to THR. Unstoppable fans can delight in seeing Dawson and Pine reteam so soon after that movie came out, while Collins will »

Rosario Dawson Joins Ten Year

16 December 2010 4:05 PM, PST | EmpireOnline | See recent EmpireOnline news »

Last time they shared the screen it was to save the day from Unstoppable's killer train, but Rosario Dawson and Chris Pine should have a calmer time in Ten Year, Jamie Linden's high-school-reunion ensemble drama. Lynn Collins has also accepted the invitation, joining the enormous cast that already includes  Jenna Dewan, Kate Mara, Anna FarisBrian Geraghty, Justin Long, Channing TatumChris Pratt, Anthony Mackie and Scott Porter. All the above were part of Linden's original wish-list, with the screenplay written with those particular actors in mind. Tatum was involved in setting the project up, following his star turn in Dear John, which Linden adapted from Nicholas Sparks' novel. It'll be Linden's directorial debut, so let's hope he's confident juggling such a lengthy talent roster. Ten Year is sounding like a kind of Big Chill: The Next Generation at the moment, so sadly there'll be no John Cusack »

'Take Me Home Tonight' trailer: Topher Grace's new movie reminds us why the '80s were awesome

15 December 2010 2:00 PM, PST | EW - Inside Movies | See recent EW.com - Inside Movies news »

Admittedly, the trailer for the new Topher Grace comedy Take Me Home Tonight doesn’t appear at to contain much innovative material.

In the 1988-set movie, formerly titled Kids in America, Grace is an MIT grad stuck in a dead-end job at Suncoast Video (!!) as he tries to simultaneously figure out his life and woo the girl of his affection. Add in a quirky Bff (played by Anna Faris), a poor man’s Zach Galifianakis (Dan Fogler from Balls of Fury), and an uncomfortable sex proposition, and you’ve got a teen-targeted movie (with ’80s fashion!).

The Take Me Home Tonight Trailer: Anna Faris Is Basically The Best At Life

15 December 2010 10:13 AM, PST | BestWeekEver | See recent BestWeekEver news »

This is the trailer for the film Take Me Home Tonight, starring Topher Grace. However, let’s move beyond Toph and say that though he is not without his charms, Anna Faris is the light of this movie and so many others, as well as my life. She is just the best. So funny. Have you seen Just Friends? Her performance as a crazy pop star is a comedic tour de force. For realzies. I want her to be my best friend. Her and her husband Chris Pratt. Do they want to just, like, hang? I bet they’re super fun but also chill. Ugh. Ok, the trailer, which looks good? I mean, it’s not the most original concept of the charming but nerdy but clearly good looking guy lusting after the hot girl of his dreams (who looks so boring but also hot) over the course of a »

Take Me Home Tonight Trailer: Topher Grace Visits the '80s

14 December 2010 4:40 PM, PST | POPSUGAR | See recent BuzzSugar news »

What happened to Eric Forman after That '70s Show? We seem to get our answer with Take Me Home Tonight, an '80s-set comedy starring Topher Grace as yet another likable everyman who's wound a little tight. Grace plays Matt Franklin, a college grad working at a video store. When Matt's dream girl Tori (Teresa Palmer) invites him to a party, he lies and tells her he works for Goldman Sachs. He goes to the rager, but runs into trouble keeping up his fake persona. We're treading very familiar ground here. The trailer hits the '80s comedy requisites, right down to Frankie Goes to Hollywood's "Relax." It looks pretty run-of-the-mill, but I'm putting my faith in the ensemble of actors. Anna Faris plays Matt's sister, and Chris Pratt and Demetri Martin also appear. Watch the preview (the film hits March 4) and share your thoughts when you read more. »

‘Take Me Home Tonight’ Trailer Parties Like It’s 1988

14 December 2010 4:03 PM, PST | NextMovie | See recent NextMovie news »

The ’80s are alive and well and living with Topher Grace

You’ve got to see the trailer for “Take Me Home Tonight.” Even if you weren’t even born yet in 1988, there is so much to cherish. The trailer’s barely even begun and there’s a reference to Suncoast Video (and it isn’t the last, either).

The plot? Topher Grace plays a college grad who works at Suncoast Video (ah ha!) and doesn’t quite know what to do with his life.

He’s also in love with Teresa Palmer (who looks freakishly like blonde Kristen Stewart from the “In the Land of Women” days), and when she asks him, “Are you going to Kyle Masterson’s party?,” well, so begins a series of events that will eventually lead to what might be the best night of his entire life.

There’s something about the name “Kyle »

‘Take Me Home Tonight’ Trailer

14 December 2010 3:30 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

[1] Relativity Media and Imagine Entertainment have finally released a movie trailer for the long-delayed dramedy Take Me Home Tonight (previously titled Kids in America). Directed by Michael Dowse (Goon, Fubar, It's All Gone Pete Tong), the story follows "an aimless college grad who pursues his dream girl at a wild Labor Day weekend party. He, his twin sister and their best friend struggle with their burgeoning adulthood over the course of the night." The movie's cast includes Topher Grace, Anna Faris, Dan Fogler, Teresa Palmer, MichelleTrachtenberg, Michael Biehn, Chris Pratt, Lucy Punch, Michael Ian Black, and Demetri Martin. The project shot in late 2006/early 2007, and has been completed for over three years now, sitting on the shelf. I usually am a sucker for teen comedy adventures which take place over the course of one night, but this seems a bit generic (or maybe just dated at this point?). Watch the »
