Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito joins Jodie Foster's Money Monster

Giancarlo Esposito is to star in Jodie Foster's Money Monster.

The Breaking Bad actor joins the financial drama, which also stars Jack O'Connell and George Clooney.

Money Monster will centre around bombastic TV personality Lee Gates (Clooney), who offers money advice on his hit show.

O'Connell plays Kyle Budwell - a struggling worker who hatches a kidnap plot to take Gates hostage live on air.

Esposito, who played Gustavo 'Gus' Fring on the AMC drama, will star as NYPD Captain Marcus Powell - the officer in charge of the hostage situation - reports Deadline.

Dominic West, Caitriona Balfe and Darri Ingolfsson also star in the drama.

Filming for Money Monster is already under way.

Esposito was previously confirmed to star in the forthcoming Maze Runner sequel.

Giancarlo Esposito, known by Breaking Bad fans as the villainous Gus Fring, is continuing his transition into big-screen features with TriStar’s next star-studded drama. Directed by Jodie Foster, Money Monster has slowly been collecting A-listers to populate what’s expected to be a serious awards contender.

Written by Jim Kouf, Alan Difiore and Jamie Linden, the film delves into the world of insider trading through gregarious television personality Lee Gates (George Clooney). On his show, Money Monster, he offers stock market hints and tips to members of the public and miscalculates an estimate – causing stock to plummet. One member of the public whom is extremely dissatisfied with Gates’ behavior storms the TV studio with a gun in tow.
