Oliver Postgate was born on April 12, 1925 in Hendon, Middlesex, England as Richard Oliver Postgate. He was a writer and actor, known for Clangers (2015), Bagpuss (1974) and Ivor the Engine (1975). He was married to Prue Myers. He died on December 8, 2008 in Broadstairs, Kent, England.

Son of Raymond Postgate and cousin of Angela Lansbury.
Auditioned for the voice of the Book in The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (2005).
With Peter Firmin, he created some of the UK's best-loved children's shows, including "Bagpuss", "Ivor the Engine", and "Noggin the Nog".
Creative partner of artist and puppeteer Peter Firmin with whom he founded Smallfilms. To begin with, they worked in a makeshift studio in a shed in Kent, often using homemade equipment.
Grandson of John Percival Postgate.
