Andre The Giant Biopic To Bodyslam A Theater Near You

10 May 2016 7:25 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

Professional wrestling has had several moments. Moments when it crossed over into the mainstream and became a temporary part of the greater pop culture consciousness. While many folks may recall The Attitude Era, that gave the world stars like Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, there was arguably no bigger zeitgeist moment for professional wrestling than the Rock n Wrestling Connection era. That period, which lasted from the mid 1980s to the early 1990s gave us Hulk Hogan, "The Macho Man" Randy Savage, Ultimate Warrior, and- of course- the legendary Andre The Giant.

Andre The Giant (real name Andre Roussimoff) was an integral part of that boom. He was a crossover star and an ambassador for the industry. If you knew nothing about wrestling, you still knew who Andre The Giant was. He even appeared in the beloved 80s cult classic, The Princess Bride, which helped cement »

7 WrestleMania Matches That Weren’t All Bad

1 April 2016 1:28 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Since its debut at Madison Square Garden in New York City on March 31, 1985, WWE’s annual WrestleMania extravaganza has brought us some of the greatest pro wrestling matches ever contested.

Randy Savage vs. Ricky Steamboat (1987), Savage vs. The Ultimate Warrior (1991), Shawn Michaels vs. Razor Ramon (1994), Bret Hart vs. Steve Austin (1997), Austin vs. The Rock (2001), Michaels vs. Kurt Angle (2005), Edge vs. The Undertaker (2008), Michaels vs. Undertaker (2009 and 2010) and others held at the show of shows are widely regarded as classics.

Along this epic journey, through 31 events on which there have collectively been more than 320 matches, Vince McMahon’s organisation has subjected us to oodles of painfully average and dismal confrontations, which are not remembered fondly — or even remembered at all. Of course it has. And then there are those matches which fall into another category: bouts dismissed by pundits and wrestling devotees as absurd, tedious or dreadful which, upon further evaluation, »

10 Wrestlers Who Were Secretly The Greatest Intercontinental Champions Ever

17 March 2016 10:55 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

The Intercontinental Championship has been the cornerstone of the WWF/E midcard for nearly forty years. During that time, it’s been considered a stepping stone to the big time, and has been contested in the main event at five WWF pay-per-views, including WrestleMania and SummerSlam.

It’s also seen a marked downturn in fortunes recently, in no small part due to abysmally short-sighted booking strategies that have seen the company’s chosen stars booked preferentially over the entire roster, at the expense of building new stars and creating a future.

The title has been held by seventy-six men and one woman, Chyna, in 1999; it was held by Dean Douglas for less than fourteen minutes in 1995; it’s been vacated ten times, and unified with every singles title in the company except the WWF/E Championship.

10 Most Ridiculous Bret “Hitman” Hart Moments

16 March 2016 6:43 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

Bret “Hitman” Hart began his career in his father’s Stampede Wrestling promotion, before achieving global superstardom in the World Wrestling Federation in the ’80’s and ’90’s. His no-nonsense attitude, and the legitimacy that came with being a Hart Brother from the infamous family Dungeon enabled Bret to bypass the cartoon gimmicks that were handed out to his WWF colleagues.

And so, while his peers on the WWF roster were saddled with ludicrous personas (such as the gifted Terry Taylor being made to cluck and strut as The Red Rooster), Bret was able to sidestep all of the cornball nonsense and continually be presented as a serious athlete.

Forget the multiple championship wins, being presented simply as a wrestler in Vince McMahon’s 80’s universe, was perhaps Bret’s greatest accomplishment.

That being said, even a guy as respected and decorated as ‘the Hitman’ would still occasionally find »

WWE 2K16 Hall Of Fame Dlc: 40 New Images You Need To See

5 March 2016 3:27 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

2K Games

After a pretty strong Dlc calendar post-release, the content window for WWE 2K16 is now sadly closed with the final package – the Hall Of Fame Showcase – now available to players. It’s a good way to crown the Dlc offering – particularly as it offers a lot more than the other Dlc packs released so far – and at $9.99 it’s not the worst value either.

The biggest selling point here is variety: there’s something for everyone. The matches included are Macho Man Randy Savage vs Jake The Snake Roberts, Rikishi vs The Rock, Alundra Blayze vs Paige, Larry Zbyszko and Arn Anderson vs Ricky The Dragon Steamboat and Dusty Rhodes, Tatsumi Fujinami vs Ric Flair, The Bushwhackers vs The Natural Disasters, and The Outsiders vs Harlem Heat. That’s quite a spread, and the mash-up of iconic matches and fantasy bookings is exactly what 2K Games should be »

18 Most Underrated Storylines In WrestleMania History

1 March 2016 11:09 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

For every “Stone ColdSteve Austin vs. The Rock and Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant, there are two or three underrated storylines that have helped to make WrestleMania the can’t-miss extravaganza it is.

They are the feuds and rivalries that have been overshadowed or lost in the shuffle underneath the programs that have come to define the event. While everyone remembers Shawn Michaels vs. The Undertaker at the 25th incarnation of the show, the sibling war between Jeff and Matt Hardy on the undercard was accompanied by a story as strong as any other on the broadcast, yet few talk about it today.

WrestleMania X is an epic show, with two legitimate five-star matches featuring Bret vs. Owen Hart and Razor Ramon vs. Shawn Michaels, but there is a very strong program supporting those two matches on the undercard, as Randy Savage and Crush brought their heated rivalry to a conclusion. »

WWE 2K17 Ultimate Wishlist: 10 Features It Must Include

27 February 2016 12:30 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE/2K

We have now seen everything that WWE 2K16 has to offer.

Earlier this week, the Hall of Fame Dlc was released which gives WWE’s gaming Universe the opportunity to play classics like ‘Macho ManRandy Savage vs Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts, Rikishi vs The Rock and… Alundra Blayze vs Paige. Yeah, that last one is a little bit confusing.

But on the whole, WWE 2K16 has been well received by fans the world over and has seen the company’s marquee game get back somewhere remotely close to its former glories. We wished that a plethora of features that were inexplicably left out of 2K15 would return, and 2K duly delivered.

Now, we’re all hoping that the progression showed with this year’s title continues into next year. If it does, we’ll be onto a winner.

10 Wrestling Facts We Didn’t Know Last Week (Feb 19)

WWE.com

All these years on, it’s still mind-blowing to think that World Championship Wrestling decided to introduce Paul ‘The Giant’ Wight as the son of the legendary Andre The Giant in 1995. The man was even given similar ring gear to his storyline father, but the idea of the pair being related was phased out after a while. This can only be considered a good thing, because the shadow of Andre was a huge one to fill for a relative rookie.

Recently, Wight – now known as The Big Show – sat down with Steve Austin for the WWE Network. The interview turned out to be quite a revealing peek into the man’s personal life before he broke into the pro wrestling business, and even included a fascinating story about his proposed deal with WCW. That story is featured in this article, one which aims to display 10 different wrestling facts »

21 Wtf Moments From WCW Nitro (Feb 9th, 1998)

12 February 2016 10:40 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE Network

The hype for SuperBrawl VIII continues this week on Nitro as we see the fallout from Hollywood Hogan essentially turning his back on his nWo comrade Randy Savage last week. Meanwhile, The Steiner Brothers continue to try and put their differences aside as they get a shot at The Outsiders’ WCW Tag Team titles.

The more I watch these shows, the more clear is becomes that the three hour format is going to be a problem long-term as it’s tough to keep the fans engaged for that amount of time. To WCW’s credit, they still do a much better job of making three hours pass by than WWE does these days.

Perhaps WWE creative should be watching these old shows back when they get the chance?

WWE Network

This is just the second 3 hour edition of the flagship show and it’s interesting to see how the company fill the extra hour. The influx of WWF stars like the British Bulldog and Jim Neidhart has propped up the mid card to flesh it out a little more and the ongoing saga of the new World order and the beginning of them crumbling has some more time to play out on each episode.

Going into this week’s show, the big advertisement was the main event of Sting going one on one with Randy Savage, as well as the fallout from Kevin Nash using the illegal jacknife powerbomb the week before.

Neither Bret Hart or Ric Flair made appearances this week, which seemed slightly strange. Last week, Bret made his intention to challenge the winner of Sting and Hogan for the WCW World Title but all we »
