Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch's 1999 stage show is as great as it sounds

25 July 2014 12:02 PM, PDT | - PopWatch | See recent - PopWatch news »

One one side of Chicago’s Second City stage, Rachel Dratch performs a one-woman show about the 19th-century woman’s rights activist Edwina Garth Burnahm. On the other, Tina Fey monologues about her vagina. This might sound like a fever dream you had after binging on Cheesy Blasters, but it actually happened.

A 1999 video of the the pair recently surfaced online, and if that description of the first sketch isn’t enough to get you hooked, then you have no soul. They performed Dratch and Fey at Second City as well as the Upright Citizens Brigade in New York City. »

Will These Summer Flings Go the Distance?

25 July 2014 2:48 AM, PDT | | See recent Popsugar news »

Last year, we tracked the budding relationships of several celebrities that were coupling up and showing Pda around the world. Many of the flings fizzled, but other pairs - like Amanda Seyfried and Justin Long, Amy Poehler and Nick Kroll, and Jake Gyllenhaal and Alyssa Miller - are still going strong. Donnie Wahlberg and Jenny McCarthy's Summer love resulted in an engagement, and Zoe Saldana tied the knot and is having a baby with her Spring fling, Marco Perego! Cut to 2014, and there are already plenty of new couples going public with their love. Khloé Kardashian has found a new boyfriend in rapper French Montana while Joseph Gordon-Levitt is currently getting cozy with Tasha McCauley, the cofounder and CEO of a robotics company based in Silicon Valley. There's also Heidi Klum, who has recently had plenty of Pda-filled moments with her latest love, 27-year-old Vito Schnabel, and just this week, »

Watch Tina Fey and Rachel Dratch's Outrageous Two-Woman Show From 1999

24 July 2014 12:36 PM, PDT | | See recent Rolling Stone news »

Back in 1999 two upstart comedians, Rachel Dratch and Tina Fey, "accidentally" booked the same stage at Chicago's legendary Second City. So they decided to share the spotlight, performing their shows simultaneously: Dratch delivered a one-woman play about the obscure (possibly fictional) women's rights pioneer Edwina Garth Burnham; and Fey explored her sexuality in a series of monologues called, bluntly, "Cunt Poems."

10 Comics to Watch: Greg Poehler’s Standup Is Huge in ‘Sweden’

22 July 2014 10:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

To (very) loosely paraphrase Shakespeare, some comedians are born great and some have greatness thrust upon them. By his own admission, Amy Poehler’s kid brother Greg falls squarely into the latter category.

“I got started in standup when a friend literally pushed me up on stage at a club in Stockholm and told the manager I was a famous U.S. comedian,” recalls the Boston native, who’d moved to Sweden in 2006 for love. “I had only an hour to prepare. But I was ready. I was always ready, just waiting for someone to give me a microphone.”

That first performance got posted on Facebook and landed Poehler an offer to open for Tom Arnold at a new club in San Diego. “I met Tom backstage, and he asked how long I had been doing standup. ‘Umm, 10 minutes?’”

The 11 Most Insane Lyrics From the Tonya Harding Musical (Yes, There Is a Tonya Harding Musical)

21 July 2014 11:42 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

This is the Tonya Harding musical you never knew you needed. (Again, yes, this is a musical about Tonya Harding, the Olympic figure skater who became embroiled in an attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan's leg leading up to the '94 Games.) Before it makes its (inevitable, duh) debut on Broadway (like Tonya, this show is bound for greatness), it's being put up at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles, where it was created by Jesse Esparza with music composed by Manny Hagopian. Tonya Harding the Musical "chronicles Tonya's journey, from living in Portland with her mother, to rising to stardom after winning '91 nationals, right into the crazy media storm of the 1994 »

Mindy Kaling Dishes on What's in Store For Mindy and Danny

20 July 2014 7:00 PM, PDT | BuzzSugar | See recent BuzzSugar news »

The Mindy Project is set to return with a new season on Sept. 16, and we're already salivating over new details. Mindy Kaling appeared during Fox's Summer TCA day to discuss the show and dished on the direction they're headed for Mindy and Danny. "This whole season we've been having a lot of fun with the Danny character, played by Chris Messina, and my character as a couple," said Kaling. "Particularly how Mindy can get Danny into trouble the way Lucy would get with Desi. Seeing two characters like that who are so different and would make virtually the opposite decision in every part of their day try to date has been really fun." Kaling also teased an upcoming guest star for the next season: "We're very close to making an announcement about a very cool guest star who is going to recur on the show to play Danny's mom. We've »

Thanks to the greatness that is VOD, last night I was able to check out David Wain and Michael Showalter's rom-com parody, They Came Together. Starring Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd, the film looks to deconstruct the romantic comedy much like Wain and Showalter's Wet Hot American Summer sought to satirize summer camp films. From the standpoint of ripping the often shallow and happenstance conceits of the modern rom-com to shreds, They Came Together is wildly successful. Poehler and Rudd are great and Wain and Showalter know the genre so well that the script often feels like a template for a Valentine's Day release waiting to happen. While its constant barrage of meta can be distracting at times (a scene where Rudd drowns his sorrows at a bar specifically comes to mind), more often than not I found myself laughing too hard at the absurdity of the genre's conventions to care. »

Casting Net: Ben Whishaw replaces Colin Firth in 'Paddington'

Ben Whishaw (Skyfall) will replace Colin Firth as the voice of Paddington Bear in the Weinstein Company’s Paddington, based on the popular children’s literature character. Firth departed the live-action/CGI-hybrid project in June. Producer David Heyman told the Daily Mail, which broke Thursday’s news, that Firth’s voice was “too mature” for the part; the film needed a slightly younger voice for the beloved bear who arrives in England from Peru. Nicole Kidman, Hugh Bonneville, Sally Hawkins, Julie Walters, and Peter Capaldi will also lend their voices to the film. [The Wrap]

Saturday Night Live” has given the boot to two more freshman cast members, and is losing one of its more recognizable players, sources confirm to Variety.

NBC has chosen not to renew the contracts of newcomers Noël Wells and John Milhiser while Nasim Pedrad, who appeared on the show for five seasons, is leaving to co-star in the new Fox comedy “Mulaney.”

Wells and Milhiser are both veterans of the Upright Citizens Brigade comedy troupe and were two of six new featured players that joined “SNL” this past fall.

See Tina Fey and Amy Poehler Sporting Side Ponytails on The Nest Set

With help from our talented local humidity, Long Island played Florida last month on the set of the upcoming Tina FeyAmy Poehler comedy The Nest, about estranged sisters who reunite to throw one last party in their parents’ home before Mom and Dad sell it. Palm trees were planted for the June 24 Dix Hills shoot, at which Fey’ and Poehler’s characters thwarted some predatory real-estate agents by turning sprinklers on them while watching from the porch. “They did two or three takes of that scene,” says Mark Peterson, who took photos for New York. ”One actor who was wearing a suit had to change [between takes] because his coat was soaked. Nobody was shivering, but they may have been acting.”*This article appears in the July 14, 2014 issue of New York Magazine. »

Retta on Parks and Recreation’s Final Season and the Real Reason Behind the Time Jump

At last night’s NBC party at the Television Critics Association summer press tour, Vulture was on the lookout for anyone to commiserate with us about the upcoming final season of Parks and Recreation. Girls, “Two Plane Rides”

Written by Lena Dunham

Directed by Lena Dunham

Aired March 23rd, 2014

Do you remember how last season’s Girls run ended? Well this season things culminated in an entirely different tone. This time, there were no grand gestures or fireworks. Season three isn’t quite as dark as season two, but man is the finale rough. If the season two finale frustrated fans because it suggested that Hannah might be too dependent on the man in her life, the season three finale seems intent on underlining that Hannah’s ready to move on, with or without Adam. And she isn’t the only one moving on, but she seems to be the only one moving in the right direction: Hannah gets into the country’s best grad school, Adam gives a truly “bad” performance in his Broadway debut, Marnie finds herself in another destructive relationship, Shosh »

Welcome to Sweden: Season One Ratings

11 July 2014 3:57 PM, PDT | | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Amy Poehler's Parks and Recreation series has managed to stay on NBC for seven seasons. How will her brother's show, Welcome to Sweden, do in the ratings? Will it have a long run or will it be cancelled like so many other shows? We'll have to wait and see.

On Welcome to Sweden, a successful New Yorker (Greg Poehler) agrees to follow his girlfriend (Josephine Bornebusch) as she returns to her hometown of Stockholm. Others in the cast are Lena Olin, Claes Månsson, Christopher Wagelin, Per Svensson, Patrick Duffy, and Illeana Douglas.

The ratings are typically the best indication of a show's likelihood of staying on the air. The higher the ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better the chances for survival. This chart will be updated as new ratings data becomes available -- usually the next day, around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see »
