Central Europe Jumps Onto Incentives Bandwagon

14 May 2013 7:00 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

In the 10 years since Hungary introduced its production incentives, it has emerged as the leading country in Central and Eastern Europe in the race to pursue Hollywood blockbusters and upscale TV series.

Boosted by the 20% tax rebate, the local biz has been further strengthened by the opening of production facilities, such as Korda Studios, Stern Film Studio and Media Center, and Raleigh Studios.

For Hollywood producer Andy Vajna, who is also the Hungarian film commissioner, it is not just a question of price. “There’s always a cheaper place, no matter what you do,” he says. “So what we have to strive for is to be competitive on price, but unmatchable in quality.” Productions in Hungary this year include Brett Ratner’s feature “Hercules” for MGM-Paramount, and two TV series — NBCU’s “Dracula” and the pilot of HBO’s Cold War thriller “The Missionary,” in which Hungary doubles for East Berlin in the 1960s. »

Ffnl: Casting 'Friday Night Lights' Actors As The 'Fantastic Four'

2 May 2013 10:00 AM, PDT | MTV Splash Page | See recent MTV Splash Page news »

Clear eyes. Full hearts. Flame on.

Word on the street today is that "Chronicle" duo Josh Trank and Michael B. Jordan are once again teaming up for a take on superheroes — and this time, it's Marvel's First Family. According to a report from The Wrap, the "Friday Night Lights" vet is in talks to star in Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot as Johnny Storm, the Human Torch. This douses rumors of Noel Fisher getting the part and comes hot on the heels of Allison Williams being rumored for the part of Invisible Woman.

My fingers are crossed that this one works out, if only because every movie should star someone from "Friday Night Lights." Honestly, every movie should star everyone from "Friday Night Lights," especially "Fantastic Four."

Observe …

Kyle Chandler as Reed Richards

He's surly when provoked but a good-hearted, natural-born leader when the cards are down. Sounds a bit like a certain razor-focused, »

Kristin Chenoweth To Co-Star In CBS’ Matthew Broderick Pilot, Gayle Rankin Cast In HBO’s ‘Missionary’

12 April 2013 10:01 AM, PDT | Deadline TV | See recent Deadline TV news »

Kristin Chenoweth is set to co-star opposite fellow Broadway boldface Matthew Broderick in CBS‘ untitled Tad Quill multi-camera comedy pilot directed by James Burrows. The project, from CBS TV Studios, centers on Jack (Broderick), a recently widowed father who raises his 12-year old son while jumping back into the dating pool. Chenoweth, repped by CAA, Untitled and attorney James Adams, will play Marnie, Jack’s cute but judgmental sister who works as a waitress at a nice but not-too-upscale restaurant. It is not clear if the two siblings share any musical talent. This marks Chenoweth’s return to CBS where she was booked for a major arc on The Good Wife last season, which was cut short by an on-set accident that injured the Tony-winner. Gayle Rankin will co-star opposite Ben Walker and Jesse Plemons in HBO’s Cold War spy drama pilot The Missionary, from Charles Randolph, Stephen Levinson »

Adrianne Palicki Loves 'Goofball' Costar Channing Tatum

26 March 2013 5:30 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Making G.I. Joe: Retaliation with Channing Tatum, Bruce Willis and the Rock, Adrianne Palicki was not one to be intimidated - not after all the noises they made. "I'm more macho than all those guys," the actress, perhaps best known for TV's Friday Night Lights (2006-11), boasts to People. "You spend that much time with them - you hear them burp, fart - you immediately become one of the dudes." Tatum, it seems, also did something even more for the gang. Speaking at New York's Drive In Studios during an Axe Face event earlier this month, Palicki, 29, said of People's »

Review: Fear Itself Season One

11 February 2013 1:00 PM, PST | Shadowlocked | See recent Shadowlocked news »

Back in 2005 an anthology series appeared on American television with the ingenious concept of bringing some of horror’s most celebrated directors together, along with a smattering of talented new blood, to produce hour long movies. Masters of Horror was the brainchild of Mick Garris, television’s go to guy for adaptations of Stephen King’s work (notably The Stand (1994), The Shining (1997) and 2011’s Bag of Bones) and ran for two well received seasons that featured some of the best recent work from genre giants John Carpenter (Halloween, Escape From New York), Dario Argento (Suspiria, Opera)and Tobe Hooper (Poltergeist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre).

When the Showtime cable network opted out of a third season Garris partnered with Lionsgate, home of the Saw series and more recently The Hunger Games (2012), and signed up with NBC for a new thirteen part series called Fear Itself which continued the practice of »

Joaquin Phoenix (l.) and Phillip Seymour Hoffman star in Paul Thomas Anderson's The Master.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman (Moneyball), Joaquin Phoenix (I’m Still Here) and Amy Adams (The Fighter) star in the provocative 2012 drama The Master by filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood).

Set in the 1950s, the film centers on the relationship between a charismatic intellectual known as “The Master”—the creator of a stylized “belief system” that catches on with troubled, lost souls—and a young WWII veteran who becomes his right-hand man.

The vet is drifter Freddie Quell (Phoenix) who, while in Northern California, encounters a mysterious movement known as The Cause, which is led by Lancaster Dodd aka “The Master” (Hoffman) and his wife Peggy (Adams). A self-spiritualized movement that, beneath its pleasant veneer, plays out like a Scientology-like cult, »
