They Live, 1988.

Directed by John Carpenter.

Starring Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster, and George “Buck” Flower.

An unemployed drifter arriving in Los Angeles looking for work who, thanks to a pair of special sunglasses, uncovers a mysterious conspiracy in which humanity has been enslaved by greed, consumerism, and ignorance by a sinister alien presence hiding in plain sight.

Well, we did it.

For the second year in a row, we’ve survived another 31 days of October Horrors.

This year we’ve looked at the wide variety of the kinds of horror the big screen can offer. We’ve had sci-fi horror, body horror, satirical horror, psychological horror, horror that arguably isn’t horror but this is my list so I’m talking about it anyway, and so on.

We looked at films with all manner of monsters from serial killers, aliens, space vampires, psychic teens, murderous hitch-hikers, Satan

You can watch the trailer for the new Rowdy Roddy Piper documentary in the player below.

Documentary Roddy Piper: In His Own Words releases trailer

  • JoBlo
I was never really a big fan of wrestling, but I still became a fan of Roddy Piper through his iconic roles in films like They Live and Hell Comes To Frogtown. So his passing was still pretty affecting to me. And from most accounts he seemed like a nice guy, even if he played an all-time great asshole on the WWF (or WWE as it's known today). And now he's getting his own documentary, Roddy Piper: In His Own Words,... Read More...

John Carpenter's '80s: "The Fog" and "Escape From New York"

  • MUBI
John Carpenter's The Fog (1980) is playing from September 9 - October 8 and Escape from New York (1981) from September 10 - October 9, 2017 in the United States as part of the series John Carpenter's '80s.A golden pocket watch hangs on the right side of the movie’s frame like a broken pendulum, or maybe a man from the gallows. It sways gently, showing five minutes before midnight. With laconic eyes and the careful accentuation of a raconteur, Mr. Michen (John Houseman) recounts to a gaggle of kids the moribund story of the Elizabeth Dane, a clipper ship captained by a wealthy man named Blake who had leprosy, and who wanted to set up a leper colony in Northern California. The ship, beset by a sudden fog bank, sailed towards a campfire mistaken for a lighthouse and crashed into the rocks. None survived. The story, which has been passed down from grandfathers to fathers to sons,

Video Game Review – Sonic Mania (PS4)

Luke Owen reviews Sonic Mania on the PS4…

When writing a review, I like to stay away from personal opinions. I would never write, “I think” or “I thought”, because quite frankly you the reader don’t care what I personally think. You want to know if a game is good, bad, or somewhere in between. However with a title like Sonic Mania, I believe it’s important to set the record straight on my relationship with the Blue Blur, because your love of Sonic the Hedgehog – particularly the original Genesis/Mega Drive series – will have an impact on your appreciation for Sonic Mania.

So, for the record, I first played Sonic the Hedgehog on Christmas 1991 and haven’t looked back since. Every year I’ll pick up a pad and replay the original Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3, Sonic CD, or Sonic and Knuckles. If my fancy is piqued,

Eli Roth Compares Donald Trump and His Inner Circle to ’80s WWF Wrestlers
Donald Trump and his inner circle have earned many comparisons, most of them unfavorable: a reality show, “House of Cards,” “Veep,” and so on and so forth. Courtesy of “Hostel” director Eli Roth, we have further proof of yet another: professional wrestling.

“It doesn’t matter what side of the political fence you’re on. The characters we have in the White House are out of WWF wrestling in the ‘80s,” Roth told reporters at the Television Critics Association press tour. “You got guys saying things that would make Rowdy Roddy Piper in his heyday blush. This is actually happening. You start to see that. It always gets out there, first on Twitter, then to ‘SNL’; it just filters its way into television and movies.”

Lrm Interview: Lucha Underground Star Taya

I had the chance to sit down with Taya, one of the stars of the El Rey Network show Lucha Underground. We discussed her career, the state of women's wrestling, plus what fans can expect from the Mid Season premiere of Lucha Underground on May 31st.

Lrm: Thank you for taking the time to speak with me today. For those unfamiliar, what is Lucha Underground and why should fans watch?

Taya: Lucha Underground is a show and original series that is on the El Rey Network. We are now in the midst of the Season 3 hiatus. We come back from break on May 31st. It's a show that combines lucha libre, combined with action and gritty actions sequences. Really like a graphic novel come to life. It's not a wrestling show. It is a tv series and it is unlike anything you have seen in your entire life, I can tell you that.

Great Job, Internet!: Why They Live will never die

The election of Donald Trump to the presidency has lead to a cottage industry of think pieces evaluating science fiction and horror films anew for “the Trump era.” It’s the gift that keeps on giving, as the ideological lines and power structures people have been noting and satirizing for decades proceeded apace to create the monster that is a Trump presidency, so there is a seemingly bottomless pit of these pop culture artifacts to reevaluate. There’s something comforting about thinking the clues to our current clusterfuck all laid dormant in our pop culture for so long. If only we’d heeded the warnings of 1984, all of this could’ve been avoided!

Still, John Carpenter’s They Live is a uniquely resonant political statement today, as blunt and powerful as an atomic drop from star Rowdy Roddy Piper. A new video essay combines clips from the movies, archival ...

The Ted Dibiase Million Dollar Man Theme Song to Brighten Up Your Day

There’s only one wrestler in the history of the WWE who could hold a candle to Roddy Piper when it came to utter degradation and pure snobbery, and that’s Ted Dibiase. The “Million Dollar” man was one of the most energetic villains that wrestling has ever seen. No character was as pompous and absolutely dehumanizing as Dibiase. There’s just no chance that a character like that could even be created in today’s political climate. Think about it. Virgil was his body guard and he was a black man who said maybe two words. Dibiase basically spit on the lower and

The Undertaker: a look at his 23-1 WrestleMania record

Gavin Jasper Apr 3, 2017

As the Undertaker announces his retirement, we look back at his Wrestlemania record...

This article is from Den Of Geek Us.

WrestleMania XXX was an eventful show. It calmed the fears of those afraid that it would crash the WWE Network and cause major damage to the company's latest venture. Cesaro broke away from his tag team and broke out by winning the Andre the Giant Memorial Trophy. Hulk Hogan, Steve Austin, and the Rock hung out in the ring and had a blast. Mr. T and Roddy Piper buried the hatchet. Daniel Bryan went through an endless supply of punishment before being defeating Triple H, Randy Orton, and Batista.

That was a big moment and a major story, but the thing people will be talking about for a long time is the end of Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar. For the first time ever, Undertaker lost at

How Charlize Theron, David Leitch and 'Atomic Blonde' Raise The Bar For Every Action Movie

Atomic Blonde has one of the greatest action scenes ever filmed. It's a seemingly endless fight, all presented as one long, uninterrupted camera take, that starts with Charlize Theron a few stories up in a building and climaxes in a speeding car. It is brutal, innovative, exhausting and, to stress, one of the greatest action scenes ever filmed. I know it can be frustrating to hear someone declare something the greatest ever months before most of the world will get a chance to see it, but... it really is just that damned good.  Remember the alley fight in They Live where Roddy Piper and Keith David slug it out for six minutes straight, with each new blow feeling like it could - and should - be the last, but it never actually is? Now imagine that fight if it had the...
