Industrial Light & Magic will celebrate its 40th anniversary by presenting two special sessions at the 2015 View Conference in Turin, Italy.
Visual effects supervisors Ben Snow and Tim Alexander and Ilm Modelshop supervisor Lorne Peterson will take part in a presentation called Ilm — 40 Years of Creating the Impossible, charting the history of the company that was founded by George Lucas in 1975 when he started production on “Star Wars.” The session will be held on Oct. 21 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
Alexander will join animation supervisor Glen McIntosh on Oct. 23 from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. to talk specifically about the company’s work on the summer blockbuster “Jurassic World.” The session, titled The Park Is Open: Journey to “Jurassic World” With Industrial Light & Magic, will chart the evolution of Ilm’s work throughout the franchise.

With Star Wars: The Digital Collection now available at iTunes and online retailers everywhere we're getting a look at the set's apparently extensive bonus features and documentaries with these new clips. While these are obviously only teases of longer supplements, I actually found the below videos to be full of info I didn't already know (or at least info contextualized in a new way) despite their brevity. Then again, I'm only a casual Star Wars fan (movies only so far for me). We already learned the true color of Han Solo's coat in The Empire Strikes Back and these go a little bit deeper. Both of these videos tease the Star Wars: Discoveries from Inside and Conversations features, which involve sit-downs between key contributors from across the entire franchise. Check them out below. As the world prepares to completely lose its mind with the release of the new Star Wars film, it is obviously time to try to stir the pot as much as possible. That in mind, the previous films from the franchise are going to be released on April 10th in digital edition, and with some new bonuses to help sucker you in to the purchase.
They also come with the legacy bonus content, and put together, these are impressive releases. I don’t want to overly comment on how many sales the first three episodes are going to get, but if you need to catch up on the universe in general, this is your chance. And, since we’re looking at a new generation who need to get on board for the new film, this is the way to go.
