Wamg At The 101 Dalmatians : Diamond Edition Press Day

Are you ready for some puppy love? 101 Dalmatians is now available for the first time on Digital HD and Blu-ray, and in celebration, Wamg was invited to a press day for the film at the Ink & Paint building on the Walt Disney Studios Lot. While there, we got the chance to chat with Lisa Davis (English voice of “Anita”), Mimi Gibson (English voice of ‘Lucky’), and Floyd Norman (Animator). We also took a class on painting our own animation cels, which we got to keep. Check out the fun filled day below!

First, we entered a small theater where we were introduced to some of the bonus features on the blu-ray, such as the short film The Further Adventures Of Thunderbolt. The Further Adventures Of Thunderbolt was inspired by the television show that the puppies watch on the tv in the film about a crime fighting dog named Thunderbolt. We

Rango Takes Top Prize at 2012 Annie Awards

As we all know, a year without a strong Pixar movie is a year where other studios have a rare opportunity to get some recognition for their own animated features. Since Cars 2 was not even nominated for an Academy Award this year, we've now got DreamWorks and Paramount battling it out against a couple of smaller foreign productions. However, while the Academy Awards are what most of the world uses to judge the best animated film of the year, industry insiders typically look to the Annie Awards instead. In the past, DreamWorks has had their fair share of success at the Annies (How to Train Your Dragon won out over Toy Story 3 last year, while Kung Fu Panda upset Wall-e in 2008), but this year, newcomers Paramount and Ilm have taken the title for Rango. Go figure! It's probably not a huge surprise that Rango won Best Animated Feature, especially

Jennifer Yuh Nelson's "Kung Fu Panda 2" dominated the Annie Awards nominations, but the International Animated Film Society decided to give its highest honor -- the Best Animated Feature award -- to Gore Verbinski's "Rango." Both films are from DreamWorks Animation and they still have to duke it out at the upcoming Oscars in the Best Animated Feature Film category.

Besides the Best Animated trophy, "Rango" also collected awards for Best Editing and Writing. But Nelson, the first woman to direct a feature film animation from a major Hollywood production company, won the Directing in a Feature Production award! Yay! (Check out my interview with Jennifer Yuh Nelson for "Kung Fu Panda 2" right here)

The Annie Awards winners were announced yesterday at the UCLA Royce Hall in Los Angeles.

39th Annual Annie Award Nominee's Announced

I'm a huge fan of animation, animated films are getting better and better. Not only is the look and animation getting ridiculously awesome, but I find that many of these animated films actually have incredibly good stories. Not all of them are good though, for example, Cars 2 and Rio sucked. It will be interesting to see who ends up taking home the awards this year. Out of the movies on the list that I've seen and liked we have Puss in Boots, Rango and Kung Fu Panda 2. I guess it's no surprises that Kung Fu Panda 2 is leading the nominations with 9. Check out the list and let us know what your favorite animated movies of the year are!
