Is the long-anticipated "Spy Hunter" video game adaptation finally going to move into development? It seems like after virtually everyone in Hollywood has a hand in the movie, it's going to be moving forward again.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is moving "full speed" on the flick now that the studio has signed Carter Blanchard to write the script.
The good news is that Ruben Fleischer is still slated to direct this flick. He just helmed "Gangster Squad" for Warner Bros., and it seems like this could be the next project on his slate. Fingers crossed he sticks with this, since "Spy Hunter" definitely doesn't need another director leaving it in the dust.
"Spy Hunter's" story started back in 2003 when Universal Pictures picked up the rights to the 1983 arcade game. Dwayne Johnson was originally supposed to star, but Universal spent a while hiring writers to try to pen the project. »

So… Imagine you are Joss Whedon. You’re well loved by millions of comic book junkies and Buffy buffs. You just had a very successful 2012, thanks in part The Avengers blockbuster, which you co-wrote with Zak Penn. Your new focus for the moment is a little TV show for ABC called S.H.I.E.L.D. Your spare time is probably very little, but when it does come, what do you do with it? Why not Tweet excruciatingly “vague” images from the ABC set for your world of faithful Whedonites to mull over?
That, my friends, is exactly what Joss has done. We’ve got three cool, but spoiler-free photos from the man with the plan to share with you on this fine day. The come from the Twitter account of his S.H.I.E.L.D. co-writer, Maurissa Tancharoen. Yes, filming for the oh so awesome pilot has begun. We see a mysterious silhouette of Mr. Whedon in one picture. »

Alphas, Syfy's super-powers sci-fi show, is not to return for a third season...
Although our reviews were always up-front about Alphas' shortcomings, it's never fun to pass on the news of another sci-fi show being taken off air.
It's official though, Zak Penn and Michael Karnow's sci-fi crime series Alphas will not be returning for a third run, owing to poor viewing figures. Two twelve-episode seasons of the Syfy show ran between July 2011 and October 2012, but that's to be our lot.
Syfy's anodyne cancellation statement praises the "incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives" who made the "entertaining, high quality series", and thanks "the show's dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support". What goes without saying is that Alphas needed each of those dedicated regular viewers to have brought along a plus one if it was to reach a third season.
Over the first twelve-episode season, »

Syfy is not moving forward with Alphas after two seasons. The cable network has canceled the one-hour drama created by Zak Penn and Michael Karnow, which centered on an unlikely team of ordinary people with superhuman physical and mental abilities that took on mysterious cases the CIA, FBI and Pentagon were unable to solve. "We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television," Syfy said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. Deadline reports that Alphas has been cancelled by SyFy after two seasons. The series focused on a team of seemingly ordinary people who possessed extraordinary mental skills. "Syfy has decided not to renew Alphas for a third season,", the network said in a statement released online earlier today. We’ve been proud to present this entertaining, high-quality series for two seasons and to work with an incredible ensemble of talented actors, producers and creatives as well as our partners at BermanBraun Television. We’d like to thank the show’s dedicated regular viewers for their tremendous support." The series was created by Zak Penn (X-Men: The Last Stand) and Michael Karnow (The Chevy Chase Show) but failed to ever really find an audience - as the second season launched to only 1.7 million viewers last July. From about the age of ten, I have been inexplicably fascinated with the Academy Awards. If pressed to explain the foundation of this obsession with an awards show from what is ultimately just an arbitrary body of members with vastly varying tastes across the many different disciplines it requires to put a competent movie up on the silver screen, I’m not sure I could muster up a satisfactory response.
I suspect at the time my Oscar obsession grew from what seemed like the perfect marriage between the art of cinema and the competition of sports, but even now, these many years later, after hours of voluntary studying of countless Oscar books (to the point where I can name every Best Picture winner chronologically from memory), I still can’t explain it in any way that doesn’t make me sound like some freakish Oscar junkie. Nevertheless, between the Oscar season and the NFL playoffs, »

Yesterday was a red-letter day in my mailbox. Next to an invite from American Express and a copy of Leslie Feinberg's Drag King Dreams (ordered from swapabook.com) lay a Netflix red-and-white envelope that I quickly ripped open. Inside: The Avengers DVD that I had forgotten I'd requested.
Eureka! My evening had unexpectedly become free an hour before, and here was a cinematic event I had missed out on. What true joy! From what I had heard, on this 4-1/2-inch silver platter was imprinted the Super Heroes event of the decade. Well, at least the best one not helmed by Christopher Nolan. After all, it had a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, beating out Fellini's Amacord by two points and Pasolini's Teorema by six.
I immediately elevatored upstairs, then prepared a major salad and a huge Teeccino. Settling in front of my 24-inch Mac along with my edibles, I inserted the disc, »
