Joss Whedon's Dollhouse has struggled during its second week in the ill-fated Friday time slot at Fox. A pair of Battlestar Galactica cameos did little to lift ratings and a month long hiatus during November signaled impending doom.
Just two weeks into the hiatus, Fox has officially confirmed the second season of Dollhouse will be its last. No more Eliza Dushku as Echo parading around in skimpy outfits or Tahmoh Penikett as Paul Ballard fantasizing about her.
Staying true to comments made when the show went on hiatus, Fox confirms all 13 episodes will air to give Whedon the opportunity to end the show "in a significant way" per a Fox statement. Dollhouse is slated to return to Fox on December 4 and wrap up its run with Summer Glau joining the cast.
Meanwhile over at ABC, the Kelsey Grammer comedy Hank has been shown the door following a wave of dismal ratings and poor reviews. »

With such low ratings, it had to happen eventually. The Dollhouse is closing after two seasons on Fox.
From the mind of Joss Whedon, Dollhouse revolves around a group of people whose minds are wiped of their own identities and implanted with temporary memories for jobs-for-hire. The cast includes Eliza Dushku, Harry Lennix, Fran Kranz, Tahmoh Penikett, Enver Gjokaj, Dichen Lachman, Olivia Williams, Amy Acker, Reed Diamond, and Miracle Laurie.
Though loved by many fans, the series has been ratings-challenged from the start. Surprisingly, Dollhouse received a second season order last May, despite low ratings. The second season's ratings have been even worse but Fox publicly committed to at least produce and air all of the 13 ordered episodes.
While it looked highly unlikely that Dollhouse would be given a full season or be renewed for a third year, many »

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are The Gore Girls!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.
Have you ever seen "Creepshow"? Think of "Trick 'r Treat" as a sort of Halloween-themed homage, a spiritual successor with none of the same players and an entirely different intent. It's an anthology movie, four discrete stories set on the same block in a sleepy little suburban town one Halloween night. Was it creepy enough to scare the Gore Girls? Hit the jump to find out!
Terri: I felt "Trick 'R Treat" was kind of a mess. »

A recent casting call for the upcoming "Conan" film described the titular Cimmerian as "very smart, almost inhumanly strong, and very cunning." Essentially, we're talking about the perfect human being.
Casting Conan isn't easy, and not just because the description is so specifically tailored for a god-like actor. The widely adored character also comes in different shapes and sizes, from the Arnold Schwarzenegger-styled muscle man to the more agile but still powerful warrior featured early in Kurt Busiek's comic book series for Dark Horse.
On either end of that spectrum, whoever is chosen to play Conan must be a capable actor. Finding a bodybuilder that can slay dialogue as easily as he slays his enemies is not an enviable task.
The most obvious solution is to recruit an undiscovered actor, but I think there are a few hidden gems already known in Hollywood that could pull off Conan—although, »

Chicago – From producer Bryan Singer (“X-Men,” “Superman Returns”), “Trick ‘r Treat” is a fantastic horror anthology film that has inexplicably been rolling around the Warner Bros. offices for years, having initially been scheduled for release back in 2007. Finally getting a Halloween-tied Blu-Ray release, this is one of the best straight-to-dvd horror flicks in years, a consistently clever and enjoyable genre entry that will have horror fans screaming in glee this holiday season.
Blu-Ray Rating: 4.0/5.0
I will never understand why junk like “The Stepfather” and “Saw VI” get national, heavily-marketed releases but something like “Trick ‘r Treat,” which has won festival awards and been buzzed about since it first started screening, won’t be playing on a screen near you this Halloween. This is one messed-up genre. I think if WB had found a way to market this film, especially with the star power of Anna Paquin coming off “True Blood, »

Will Dollhouse fans finally get the hook-up they've been waiting for?
It sounds that way, according to star Tahmoh Penikett.
"I think it's safe to say you're going to see [a kiss] soon," he told E! News of his character, Paul Ballard, and Eliza Dushku's Echo.
Regarding his overall relationship with the Dollhouse, the actor added:
"Paul has to drink the Dollhouse Kool-Aid for a bit—I don't know if he's going to continue doing it though. I think you'll see, over the next couple of episodes, that he's having more and more issues working for the company, but he's kind of stuck in that position right now." »

As fans of Joss Whedon's Dollhouse are painfully aware, the series has failed to attract a significant number of viewers each week.
Though the show has a devoted following and a solid cast (including Eliza Dushku, Harry Lennix, Fran Kranz, and Tahmoh Penikett), Dollhouse is consistently one of Friday night's worst performing shows. Even when you factor in the DVR numbers, viewership is still quite low.
The season two premiere tallied just 3.42 million viewers and a 1.5 rating in the 18-49 demo. The later episodes have done even worse and help keep the network in fourth place for the night.
Despite the poor numbers, Fox scheduling chief Preston Beckman tells THR that the network is committed to running all 13 episodes. Optimistically he added, "We're not saying we're happy with those numbers, or accept them, but we »

It's about damn time! Ever since Dollhouse started last spring, we've been waiting for Echo/Caroline (Eliza Dushku) and Paul Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett) to hook up, but in season one, it was not meant to be. Paul was mating with Mellie/November (Miracle Laurie), and except for some passionate fight scenes, the fed and L.A.'s No. 1 Doll hardly ever shared scenes. Well, that's all about to change. We just ran into our favorite set of 12-pack abs—Tahmoh!—and here's what he blabbed... True to its name, the Scream Awards is an award show where the winners are decided by the biggest scream, like talent shows of olden days, before text messaging and toll-free numbers were invented. In this case, Scream winners are decided by internet votes. It's not surprising to then see current trend-grabbing vampires dominate the show; but the awards, it seemed, are secondary. The highlights of the night are all the honorary awards, celebrating the legends of their own mediums.
It was a little disconcerting to notice that the award winners were all telegraphed by the adoring cheers of the audience, too. The more enthusiastic the cheers, the likelier for that person to win. Vampires are definitely in this year, with notable appearances/wins for Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire's Assistant and Let the Right One In.
The most telling part of the award show being entertainment first-recognition second is »

Warner Brothers apparently had no idea what a rare and wonderful cash cow it had acquired in Trick r' Treat, and made the totally bone-headed decision of releasing this stellar movie straight to DVD instead of giving it what would have been a smashingly lucrative theatrical release supplanting tired warhorse Saw this Halloween season. Not that Hollywood is known for understanding or respecting thriller/horror material and its fans, but their throwaway treatment of Trick 'r Treat is shockingly dumb even for them...
To add insult to injury, they've printed a woefully inadequate amount of DVDs to supply the awesome word of mouth, to the point that it's difficult to find a copy to buy or rent anywhere except in Blu-ray. »

This review may contain spoilers. After spending the first two episodes of the season focusing almost exclusively on Echo (Eliza Dushku) and Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett), .Belle Chose. returns .Dollhouse. to what creator Joss Whedon does best: ensemble drama with comedic undertones. Not surprisingly, .Belle Chose. is written by Tim Minear, who worked with Whedon on .Angel. and .Firefly.. The episode is the closest in tone to classic Whedon of any episode thus far this season. It feels like .Dollhouse. has built back the momentum that it had late last season, when everything seemed to flow effortlessly. Nearly all of the regular cast members . with the exception of Sierra (Dichen Lachman) . play an integral role in this episode, as the Dollhouse imprints Victor (Enver Gjokaj) with the ... »

Fan favorite, Joss Whedon’s TV show Dollhouse, is kind of like going back for a third date with someone you know can’t get it up. This week’s episode, “Belle Chose”, has the plot of a porno. Echo (Eliza Dushku) takes the implant to be an English student, and is contracted by a lonely English teacher. Yet another Battlestar Galactica alumni Michael Hogan (Colonel Tigh) guest stars on this episode and he has issues with Adelle DeWitt (Olivia Williams), the woman who runs this particular Dollhouse.
She informs Tigh that his nephew is a serial killer who kidnaps people that look similar to their family. He’s a dangerous guy, having smashed a woman’s skull with a croquet malet at the beginning of the episode. After the bludgeoning, Serial Killer gets hit by a car trying to kidnap another woman to replace the woman he just killed. »

Because I adore Joss Whedon, Dollhouse is one of those shows that I know I should watch more often and I promise I'm going to sit down and watch the entire first season the moment I can find a free weekend. In the meantime, the second season has premiered on Fox and we've got some sneak peeks for this Friday's brand new episode of the show. BSG fans should be happy – an alum is guest starring.
Echo And Victor’S Imprints Collide As Paul Races To Save A Kidnapped Family On “Dollhouse” Friday, October 9, On Fox

Echo and Victor’s imprints collide when Echo is sent on an assignment as a fun-loving, seductive college student and Victor is imprinted as the psychotic nephew of a Dollhouse shareholder (guest star Hogan) in the “Belle Chose” episode of Dollhouse airing Friday, Oct. 9 (9:00-10:00 Pm Et/Pt) on Fox. »

Coming off of the season premiere, .Dollhouse. takes a slight break from the show.s complex mythology to focus on a solitary mission. Echo (Eliza Dushku) has been imprinted to believe she is a new mother to a baby boy, even to the point where she is breastfeeding the little tyke. However, when her faux-husband . who hired Echo to care for his son . decides to abort the mission, Echo believes he plans to have her killed. Her newly acquired mothering instincts kick in and she takes off with the child she believes is her own, with Ballard (Tahmoh Penikett) in hot pursuit. Meanwhile, a former Active (Miracle Laurie) reappears for a .diagnostic,. raising questions about her lingering connection to the Dollhouse, and Senator Perrin (Alexis Denisof) gets closer to unraveling the truth about ... »
