“The Legend of Tarzan” arrives in theaters this Friday but it seems that the David Yates-directed film is off to a wild start. Starring Alexander Skarsgård and Margot Robbie, the new and updated story of the Edgar Rice Burroughs-created character sees Tarzan return to his former home in the jungle after living in London for nearly a decade.
IndieWire’s David Ehrlich gave the film a D+, writing in his review, “By turning Tarzan into just another superhero, David Yates’ blockbuster origin story wastes one of literature’s great wild men.” He adds that “Tarzan is a monumental bore” and that Robbie’s talents are wasted. “As nice as it is that the character has been updated for the 21st Century, the way this film uses her is decidedly archaic.”

Evangeline Lilly should have been one of the founding members of The Avengers for Marvel's cinematic universe, but Ant-Man and the Wasp director Peyton Reed is determined for her to get her superhero due. Modern Myth Media caught up with the director amidst the 42nd Annual Saturn Awards (Ant-Man won for Best Comic-to-Film Motion Picture). Oddly enough, Ant-Man and the Wasp will be the first McU film with a female character in the title since the inception of the McU almost ten years ago (Though they've been making snail's paced progress). As Stephen Colbert called it - a sausage fest. But Reed has had a lot of great stuff to say about Lilly and Wasp. He's spoken about the partnership of Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne before but went into it a bit more for Mmm: It’s something we’re excited about. For me as a comic nerd, »

New details have landed about next year's second Lego film, The Lego Ninjago Movie. And Jackie Chan is involved...
Warmer Bros currently has a pair of Lego movies earmarked for release next year. The Lego Batman Movie is due on February 10th 2017. And then, on September 22nd comes The Lego Ninjago Movie.
We’ve had a trailer for the former, but heard little of the latter. Now, though, courtesy of Licensing Expo 2016 (we weren’t invited), the voice cast for the movie has been revealed. And there’s the small matter of Jackie Chan leading it.
He’s lending his tones to the character of Master Wu. Dave Franco, meanwhile, is playing Lloyd, Michael Pena is Kai, Abbi Jacobson is Nya, Kumail Ninjiana is Jay, Zach Woods is Zane and Fred Armesen is Cole.
The outline? "Ninjago is the story of six young ninja tasked with defending their island home, »
Eventually, every film will be made in partnership with Lego. Okay, maybe not, but it certainly feels like the toy building blocks have become major Hollywood players since the surprise success of The Lego Movie. Right now, Rob Schrab is hard at work on the sequel to that film, and the trailers for The Lego Batman Movie have been killing since they debuted two of them back to back. We knew they were also planning to release a Ninjago film of some sort, but news on that has been a lot quieter… until now. Using a pamphlet they obtained at the Licensing Expo 2016, Lego fansite Brickset revealed the primary voice cast for The Lego Ninjago Movie. Evidently, these characters all exist in the Lego Ninjago TV show, but they’ve all been recast, and it’s clear that there’s a common talent pool that they’re using for all of these films, »

The Lego Movie was a smash when it came out in 2014. It established a particular tone, look, and set a precedent when it came to its voice cast. That film featured Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Banks, Morgan Freeman, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett, Channing Tatum, and more. With two more Lego movies already in the pipeline, one would have to wonder how- or if- they could top themselves.
Well, the cast for The Lego Ninjago Movie has been revealed, and it's pretty damn exciting:
Jackie Chan as Master Wu
Dave Franco as Lloyd
Michael Peña as Kai
Abbi Jacobson as Nya
Kumail Ninjiani as Jay
Zach Woods as Zane
Fred Armisen as Cole
This is something of a modern comedy dream team, when you consider that most of these performers hail from some of the most revered comedy properties of the current era. You've got stars from Silicon Valley, Broad City, Portlandia, »

The success of The Lego Movie inspired Warner Bros. to move forward with a number of spinoffs, one of which is The Lego Ninjago Movie, a popular toy property which has already had a TV series on Cartoon Network. Other than a release date (September 22nd, next year), little to nothing has been revealed about this one, but the voice cast and synopsis have now surfaced thanks to Brickset. Thanks to information which surfaced at the Licensing Expo, we now know that the all-star lineup will include Jackie Chan as Master Wu, Dave Franco as Lloyd, Michael Peña as Kai, Abbi Jacobson as Nya, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Zach Woods as Zane, and Fred Armisen as Cole. The Lego Ninjago Movie is being directed by Charlie Bean with a script by Ninjago vets Dan Hageman and Kevin Hageman. "Inspired by the wildly popular Lego line of toys, Ninjago is the »

“The Lego Movie” was undoubtedly one of the most pleasant surprises of the last few years: a film that could have so easily been a cynical exercise but that proved to be an inventive, heartfelt delight, and one of the best non-Pixar animated films (and frankly, something that can stand with their best too). Inevitably, its caused Warner Bros. to start the franchise-generating machine, with a direct sequel and various spin-offs in the works. […]

In the wake of "The Lego Movie" scoring critical acclaim and commercial success, Warner Bros. Pictures has set up a whole new slate of Lego-themed films with a direct sequel in the works along with next year's "The Lego Batman Movie".
But there's another one in there, "The Lego Ninjago Movie" which is based on the popular toy line which has already yielded a TV series on Cartoon Network. Very little has been revealed about the film until today as Brickset has uncovered the voice cast for the film whilst attending the Licensing Expo.
The cast includes: Jackie Chan as Master Wu, Dave Franco as Lloyd, Michael Pena as Kai, Abbi Jacobson as Nya, Kumail Nanjiani as Jay, Zach Woods as Zane, and Fred Armisen as Cole. There's also an official synopsis which you can see below:
"Inspired by the wildly popular Lego line of toys, Ninjago is the story »

In the wake of The Lego Movie’s success, Warner Bros. wasted no time in announcing a sequel to the animated movie, along with a couple of spinoffs for 2017 in The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Ninjago Movie.
While we’ve already seen a couple of teaser trailers for Lego Batman [watch them here and here], things have been deathly quiet on the Ninjago front. However, the official Twitter account shared – and subsequently deleted – a tweet which appears to have given away the voice cast for the animated film:
Master Wu – Jackie Chan
Lloyd – Dave Franco
Kai – Michael Pena
Nya – Abbi Jacobson
Jay – Kumail Nanjiani
Zane – Zach Woods
Cole – Fred Armisen

With just two feature length films to his name – The Guard and Calvary – John Michael McDonagh has established himself as a writer-director to be reckoned with. So much so, that his third movie has taken him across the pond from Ireland, to New Mexico, to wage War On Everyone with Michael Pena and Alexander Skarsgard. What’s more, we now have a trailer to preview the finished product.
War On Everyone has been moving through the festival circuit for some months, and was characterised by our own Matt Donato, at this year’s SXSW, as “a pitch-black, nihilistic riot.” Such praise indicates that this movie promises the full John Michael McDonagh experience – despite the relocated setting, and the absence of stalwart collaborator, Brendan Gleeson.
“Award-winning writer-director of The Guard & Calvary, John Michael McDonagh crosses the globe for his much-anticipated third film, a jet-black action comedy starring Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña and Theo James. »

Icon has released a trailer for writer-director John Michael McDonagh’s (The Guard, Calvary) upcoming action comedy War on Everyone which stars Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña and Theo James; take a look below after the official synopsis…
In Albuquerque, New Mexico, Terry Monroe (Skarsgård) and Bob Bolaño (Peña) are two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal unfortunate enough to cross their path. Things take a sinister turn, however, when they try to intimidate someone who is more dangerous than they are. Or is he?
War on Everyone is set for release on September 30th in the UK and features a cast that also includes Tessa Thompson, Malcolm Barrett, Caleb Landry Jones, Paul Reiser, Stephanie Sigman and David Wilmot.

Ever hear of a little game called Bad Cop/Bad Cop? No? Understandable, as most cop-movie-loving audiences have long been acquainted with the concept of Good Cop/Bad Cop, an idea that John Michael McDonagh’s dark comedy “War on Everyone” pretty gleefully throws right out the metaphorical window.
Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña star in the festival favorite (it played to great acclaim at Berlin and SXSW earlier this year) as a pair of corrupt cops who set about blackmailing any criminal who comes across their path (not a bad racket, all things considered), but when they run afoul of a baddie more bad than themselves, things take a very swift turn into far more dangerous territory. The formula might sound familiar, but Skarsgård and Peña both turn in tremendous performances and infuse »

"They're gonna kick your ass... and get away with it." Icon Film Distribution from the UK has debuted an official trailer for John Michael McDonagh's War on Everyone, a wacky and totally absurd new comedy from the filmmaker behind Calvary and The Guard. Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña star as two corrupt cops in New Mexico who end up battling against a British Lord, played by Theo James, who comes to town for his own piece of the pie. This film received some rave reviews out of Berlinale and SXSW, where it premiered, and is the kind of totally wacky comedy that will have a few people falling out of their seats with laughter. This plays a red band trailer and it does a okay job teasing lots of the humor in this. Have fun. Here's the first red band (UK) trailer for John Michael McDonagh's War on Everyone, »

People love to watch cops behaving badly. Be it for thrills in films like Bad Boys, chills in movies like Training Day, or the kind of laughs found in 21 Jump Street, there's definitely something appealing about watching law enforcement cut loose from its square-jawed reputation.
The latest film to explore cops gone wild is the bonkers-looking War On Everyone. It stars the stellar Michael Peña (Ant-man, End Of Watch) and Alexander Skarsgård (The Legend Of Tarzan), who's continuing his push for post-True Blood glory.
Here's the red-band teaser for War On Everyone:

While Shane Black's "The Nice Guys" was a fun R-rated buddy-cop comedy, it has been criticised for playing it surprisingly safe with its humor compared to some of Black's previous work. That's not the case with "The Guard" and "Calvary" director John Michael McDonagh's "War On Everyone" which smashes down boundaries with its dark, edgy laughs judging by reviews out of several film festivals where it has screened.
Alexander Skarsgard and Michael Pena play two corrupt New Mexico cops who're up to not good. Tessa Thompson and Theo James are also onboard the film which just scored a red-band trailer and opens September 30th in the UK. Saban Films is slated to open it later in the United States.

In a few weeks we’ll see Alexander Skarsgård as king of the jungle in The Legend of Tarzan, but later this year he’ll get in touch with his wild side in an entirely different way. Directed by John Michael McDonagh (The Guard, Calvary), War on Everyone stars Skarsgård and Michael Peña as two very corrupt cops who get in over their heads […]

Last time we saw John Michael McDonagh he brought us the pitch black comedy/drama Calvary, as well as having some choice words to say about the Irish film community. Well, now he’s back with crime comedy War on Everyone, featuring Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña as two corrupt cops who set out to blackmail and frame every criminal who is unfortunate enough to cross their paths. Coming off a fantastic reaction last February at the 66th Berlin International Film Festival, the first trailer is here, and it is something special indeed. I am quite partial to bad guys as the main characters, but Skarsgård and Peña really take the cake here, and I can’t wait to go on this crazy ride with them. McDonagh’s scripts have always strayed on the darker side of pitch black, while still finding a real nugget of humour and exploiting it to its fullest, »

Making a name for itself at this year’s Berlinale John Michael McDonagh’s War on Everyone has itself a fine new trailer. It looks like being a violent, sweary, very silly affair. Alexander Skarsgård and Michael Peña are our bad lieutenants, drug-addled and power crazy, down in New Mexico getting away with murder. McDonagh’s previous films, […]
