Kevin Hart Talks ‘Putting a Small Black Guy in a Small White Rabbit’s Body’ at ‘The Secret Life of Pets’ Premiere

26 June 2016 10:50 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

“I spent time with bunnies for seven months. I didn’t use my fingers. I hopped everywhere I went — ate nothing but grass,” joked Kevin Hart at “The Secret Life of Pets” premiere Saturday morning at the Lincoln Center in New York City.

The comedian, making his first appearance as an animated character, told Variety that he was excited to voice Snowball, a tyrannical bunny out for revenge against the human race. Hart added, “Probably the funniest thing you can do about putting a small black guy in a small white rabbit’s body is say, ‘Be yourself.'”

Snowball tries to recruit domesticated dogs Max and Duke, voiced by Louis C.K. and Eric Stonestreet, to join his gang of “Flushed Pets” as the pair try to escape Animal Control and find their way back home.

While Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri thought of centering a film around the mysterious lives of our pets, »

‘The Secret Life Of Pets’ Review: Talking Animals Are Fun, But Don’t Expect the Pixar Touch

16 June 2016 5:12 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

By Ben Croll

How’s this for a shock: it turns out this summer’s biggest, wildest action flick is… about talking dogs. Stranger things have happened, but there it is.  “The Secret Life of Pets” moves like a bat out of hell from frame one, though if you’re looking for any kind of emotion you might be barking up the wrong tree.

Comparisons to “Toy Story” will no doubt abound, not least because both films ask the same basic question –what do our playthings do when we’re not around to see them? — with the same winking glee. What’s more, both “The Secret Life of Pets” and the first entry in Pixar’s soon to be four strong franchise are animated by a shared basic tension. Both films »

Film Review: ‘The Secret Life of Pets’

16 June 2016 4:46 PM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

In what may as well be Illumination’s answer to “Toy Story,” “The Secret Life of Pets” imagines how domesticated animals behave while their owners’ backs are turned, concentrating on a dynamic where newly adopted dog Duke (“Modern Family” star Eric Stonestreet, in the Buzz Lightyear role) disrupts the balance in a household where Max (Louis C.K., as the Woody equivalent) had previously been his human’s best friend. The formula may be familiar, but the personalities are completely fresh, yielding a menagerie of loveable — if downright ugly — cartoon critters banding together to help these two incompatible roommates from ending up on the streets.

Based on an original idea by Illumination honcho Chris Meledandri, “Pets” is the studio’s most accomplished feature, from both a story and animation standpoint, tapping into an endlessly expandable core concept — which could conceivably be repeated ad infinitum, ideally with an entirely new domesticated ensemble each time out. »

The studio revealed that Steve Carell will also be voicing Drew, Gru's long-lost identical twin brother, who looks just like Gru, except for a full head of blond hair. Trey Parker will be voicing Balthazar Bratt, a former child star from the 1980s who is obsessed with the character he once played, and becomes Gru's new nemesis. The Secret Life Of Pets' Story Comes to Light in New Trailer!

28 January 2016 9:31 AM, PST | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

So far actual plot of The Secret Life Of Pets has been a bit of a mystery. It's been largely going off the whole "what do pets do when their owners leave?" gimmick. And while that's all well and good, a film can't survive on a gimmick for too long. The teaser and trailer we've seen thus far, while charming and cute enough to sell to the target audience, haven't done much to tell us about what the movie will actually be about.

Now, with the second trailer, we finally know what story the filmmakers are trying to tell.

Check out the trailer below!

From what we can gather from the trailer, The Secret Life Of Pets tells the story of Max, a dog who's more than content with the life that's been given to him. But that perfect life is dashed to pieces when his owner brings home another dog named Duke. »

After spawning a lucrative franchise in Despicable Me and those seemingly omnipresent Minions, Illumination Entertainment and director Chris Renaud are partnering to shed some light on The Secret Life of Pets.

Sharing directing duties with Renaud on the animated feature is Yarrow Cheney, and today Illumination and Universal have rolled out the first full-length trailer showcasing just what our furry companions get up to when we’re not around. Like a stylized twist on the Toy Story set-up, The Secret Life of Pets opens with Louis C.K.’s loyal and wide-eyed canine Max, living out his life as best friend to Katie, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt herself Ellie Kemper.

But that’s all about to change with the introduction of Max’s new brother, Eric Stonestreet’s Duke. That’s a knock on his status as Katie’s center of attention, although when the pair are led astray by the New York compound, »
