He directed the revue, "Puttin on the Ritz", at the National Jewish Theater in Chicago, Illinois, with Nancy Voigts in the cast. The crew included Jim Corti
(choreographer) and Kingsley Day (musical director).

He was chairman of the theater department at Columbia College Chicago. He was a founding member of the Playwrights Theatre Club, the 1950s group that spawned both the Compass Players and The Second City. He had a half-century association with Second City, where he remained an artistic consultant. He also worked with many other Chicago theaters, including the Steppenwolf Theatre Company.
