A first-generation American who thought he would be the first in his family to graduate from college ended up sharing the moment with his 63-year-old father — and he couldn’t be prouder.
“It’s incredible,” Ben Jeanty, 27, tells People of graduating with his dad, Duvinson, a Haitian immigrant who drove an NJ Transit bus for more than 25 years. “I always had it in my mind to graduate college, but to graduate with my dad? It’s indescribable!”
The pair recently received their diplomas from William Paterson University in Wayne, New Jersey — Ben in psychology and Duvinson in finance.

Part I.
1971 was an incredibly violent year for movies. That year saw, among others, Tom Laughlin’s Billy Jack, with its half-Indian hero karate-chopping rednecks; William Friedkin’s The French Connection, its dogged cops stymied by well-heeled drug runners; Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, banned for the copycat crimes it reportedly inspired; and Sam Peckinpah’s Straw Dogs, featuring the most controversial rape in cinema history. Every bloody shooting, sexual assault and death by penis statue reflected a world gone mad.
It seemed a reaction to America’s skyrocketing crime. Between 1963 and 1975, violent crimes tripled; riots, robberies and assassinations racked major cities. The antiwar and Civil Rights movements generated violent offshoots like the Weathermen and Black Panthers. Citizens blamed politicians like New York Mayor John Lindsay (the original “limousine liberal”), who proclaimed “Peace cannot be imposed on our cities by force of arms,” and Earl Warren’s Supreme Court,...

... But Were Afraid to Ask. Pregnancy guide What to Expect When You're Expecting is the latest self-help book to be turned into a film. Which manuals would you tout around Tinseltown?
No Hollywood genre has been quite as strange as the loose ensemble comedy adaptation of a non-fiction guidebook. Woody Allen first paved the way by dressing up as a sperm for Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex But Were Afraid to Ask, but that was it for three decades.
However, now we're in the midst of a full-blown revival. First came 2009's He's Just Not That Into You, based on a self-help book, and this month we'll see an adaptation of the 14 million-selling pregnancy guide What to Expect When You're Expecting. If this new film can repeat the worldwide $178m gross of He's Just Not That Into You, you can guarantee that even more will follow. So Hollywood,...

A university has refused to allow "The Sopranos" (1999) to film on its campus. William Paterson University in New Jersey has cancelled plans to allow the television series about organised crime to film scenes there next week. It officially blamed scheduling conflicts involving the campus library. But there have also been complaints that the show perpetuates negative stereotypes of Italian-Americans. Susanna Tardi, an associate professor of sociology, says she wants to see Italian-Americans who are "hardworking, educated and articulate" portrayed on television. She says, "They can do that and still make money and win awards." A spokesman for HBO, which makes "The Sopranos" (1999), says the show's producers are not available for comment.
