The model for Lara in his novel "Doctor Zhivago" was his longtime companion Olga Iwinskaja, who died at the age of 83 in Moscow in 1995. Iwinskaja was thrown into Soviet prison-camp twice because of her relationship with Pasternak, who she met when she was an editor at literary magazine Novy Mir. See more »
