Boardwalk Empire's Paz de la Huerta files lawsuit against Lionsgate

Paz de la Huerta has filed a lawsuit against Lionsgate after being hospitalised on the set of horror movie Nurse 3D.

The actress who played Nucky Thompson's (Steve Buscemi) former mistress Lucy Danziger on HBO's Boardwalk Empire, was hit by an ambulance while working on the film in 2011.

According to The Wrap, the actress filed suit in New York on Tuesday (October 16).

de la Huerta alleges that she suffered "severe injuries and considerable pain and suffering" on set in Toronto on October 15, 2011. She claims that an unnamed stunt driver "caused his ambulance to strike [her] and knock her to the ground".

In her legal filing, the actress also says that she "sustained severe injuries and considerable pain and suffering, was confined to hospital, bed and home, was caused to undergo medical treatment and surgery in an attempt to alleviate her injuries".

Lionsgate Acquires the CIA Thriller 'Operation Avalanche'

Xyz Films and Lionsgate Films have announced today that Lionsgate has acquired all U.S. and Canadian rights to the new thriller Operation Avalanche from acclaimed filmmaker Matt Johnson. Johnson's first film The Dirties, which he directed, co-wrote, and co-starred in, won the Grand Prize at Slamdance in 2013. The multi-hyphenate is reteaming with his Dirties co-writer Josh Boles, co-star Owen Williams, producer Matthew Miller, and has brought on Toronto-based producer Lee Kim (The Conspiracy, I'll Follow You Down). Nick Spicer will executive produce for Xyz Films, with Michael Paseornek, John Sacchi, and Jessica Switch overseeing for Lionsgate. Production is set to begin June 30th in Toronto, Houston, and Washington D.C.

While specific details of the plot cannot yet be revealed, the film investigates the truth behind the CIA's involvement in the space race. Here's what director Matt Johnson had to say in a statement.

Tyler Perry Now Free Agent as Long-Running Lionsgate Pact Ends

Tyler Perry is now on the market.

The multi-hyphenate has parted ways with Lionsgate after working with the studio for nine years on theatrical releases. He’d been under a first-look deal with the studio since 2008. Perry has been approached by many distribs over the years after demonstrating the value of his B.O. brand, but he was never able to pursue other options — until now.

The end of the Lionsgate deal coincides with Perry’s decision to close the Los Angeles office of his 34th Street Films banner and consolidate operations at his Atlanta headquarters. Perry owns studio facilities there that are home to his four TV series, among other projects.
