If you’ve ever wondered why Troll 2 is a cult classic, here’s a quick explanation: It’s a movie entitled Troll 2, but features no actual trolls (they’re goblins). And that’s only one small reason why the 1990 horror/fantasy/awful film has become a revered in bad movie circles, and has perennially topped lists of the worst films of all time. For child star Michael Stephenson it was a learning experience, as when he finally saw the film (it went direct to video and cable stateside), he was crushed by its terribleness. But the legend/legacy of the film is still strong, and the film has attracted a rabid cult for its amusing incompetence. And so Stephenson decided to make a documentary not just about the film’s fanbase, but also rounds up all the stars he can to discuss their experience making the “Best Worst Movie” ever made. »

Troll 2 Directed by: Claudio Fragasso Written by: Rossella Drudi and Claudio Fragasso Starring: George Hardy, Michael Paul Stephenson, Robert Ormsby, Margo Prey, Connie Young I took my first trip to Nilbog just a few years ago, when my friends Katie, Nuno and Erin hosted a Halloween party that included Troll 2 as the main event. At the time, I thought they might be somewhat unique in their undying love for this movie, and I wasn't completely aware of its reputation or rabid fanbase. I knew only that it was a strange, mostly forgotten b-movie that fell under the category of "so bad it's good". Needless to say, after one watch it became very clear why people are so obsessed with this film, and now, thanks to actor Michael Paul Stephenson's wonderful documentary Best Worst Movie, Troll 2 and the story behind its production have since become the stuff of legend. »
The appeal of bad movies has always been a little hard to explain, but it could probably best be compared to the innate hilarity of something like America’s Funniest Home Videos (basically now transformed into Youtube, freeing us from the groove-killing of the hosts). No matter how high our brain function as homo sapiens ever gets, we will always be reduced to our most primal, adolescent form at the sight of some one falling off a ladder, being hit in the face by a baseball bat, or getting attacked by a dog (preferably if the person is dignified or has no idea that it’s coming); similarly, it’s hilarious to see a director or writer completely humiliated upon the release of a truly awful film, as they have failed on a scale that is far larger and more expensive as well as more personal. But no matter how »

With the barrage of remake after remake and 3D announcement after 3D announcement why hasn’t the legendary “Best Worst Movie” ever made, Troll 2, made it into the rehash department? Let’s face it, we see blockbuster written all over this idea…
So no studio has stood up to this challenge and with HorrorBid celebrating the “Best Worst Movie” we thought it would be fun to do a little “What If” game here. We have taken it upon ourselves to cast the remake and give you a little sample of what our “Troll 2: The Remake” might contain.
We start things off with a modest 400 million dollar budget. Why such a drastic leap from what the original cost to make in 1989 to the 400 mill? Well it’s simple. Casting isn’t cheap. It was tough to get Sean Connery out of retirement to play the role of Grandpa Seth. »
A movie came out on VHS in 1990 to little fanfare. It was called Troll 2, even though it had nothing to do with the previous Troll. It had a threadbare plot about a town named Nilbog, populated by hungry vegetarian goblins (not trolls) that turned humans into plants to eat them. It is known as the worst movie of all time. And the child actor who starred in it all those years ago has made a documentary about the many small-time actors who starred in that film. It’s called Best Worst Movie, and it is fantastic.
Troll 2, up until a few years ago, was simply regarded as a bad horror movie, with no budget and awful acting. But gradually, people started to realize something; Troll 2 wasn’t just a terrible movie, it was terribly good. Soon, the movie was being screened at sold-out shows all over the country, »
