31 December 2011 6:15 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

We've reached the conclusion of our end-of-the-year Round Table discussions. To wrap up 2011, the TV Fanatic staff so far has debated the following categories:

The Best New Show of the Year The Breakout Star of the Year The Best Villain of the Year The Funniest Show of the Year The Best Couple of the Year The Worst Show of the Year The Hero of the Year

So how could we flip the calendar without first asking: What Was The Best Show Of 2011?

Matt Richenthal: Homeland actually made me think twice, but there's no answer other than Breaking Bad. The best acting, the tightest storytelling, the most riveting main character on television. Brilliant in all levels.

Dan Forcella: Every single episode of Justified that aired in 2011 was thrilling, emotional, and made the viewer think. With a superior leading performance by Timothy Olyphant, and stunning supporting work from Margo Martindale, Walton Goggins and Jeremy Davies, »

“The Gunfighter” – Justified Season 3 Promo Images

When I hear there are the new promotional images for an upcoming episode of a great TV series, especially when those images are for a season premiere, my attention is piqued. Naturally I became excited when the latest batch of images for Justified season 3 was released via our sister site Criminal Complex. With the season’s January 17 premiere date drawing ever closer, one would expect to see images with a little more pizzazz to them, but instead we are treated to a fairly run of the mill scene featuring Timothy Olyphant and Walton Goggins having a tame conversation of sorts.

I suppose it isn’t that big of a deal the promo images aren’t as intense as I would have hoped, but it’s hard to let this go. I hear such great things about this series and these images don’t exactly »

Top 14 Do’s and Don’Ts For ‘Justifed’ Season 3

28 December 2011 4:39 PM, PST | BuzzFocus.com | See recent BuzzFocus.com news »

We’re only a few weeks away from the Season 3 premiere of Justified and we’re excited to with all of those cool promos running on FX and Fox. Season 2 took the show to new heights and the show was recognized at this year’s Emmys. Like last season, we’re going to put our wish list of things we’d like to see more of and what would hurt to see more of. Here’s a link to last season’s list, which I believe were answered quite sufficiently except for Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) is still living in that motel. Let’s see how we do for season 3, shall we?

Do… Keep giving significance to Helen’s death.

Rest her soul, Raylan’s Aunt Helen (Linda Gehringer) was a one-of-a-kind. I always thought she was one of the more underrated characters in Justified–one I secretly rooted for despite »

The Us television hits of 2011, from Community to Revenge | Sarah Hughes

28 December 2011 12:52 PM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The new season was weak – but there was plenty of good stuff worth watching in 2011. Here's a pick of the 10 best

It's been a mixed year for Us television, with established hits stumbling (oh Glee, where did it all go wrong?) and one of the weakest new seasons in recent years (farewell, The Playboy Club, Charlie's Angels and Prime Suspect: you won't be missed).

But there were some nice surprises – Revenge provided a welcome return for the primetime soap, while Once Upon A Time demonstrated that Disney and ABC still understand a thing or two about family-centric Sunday night viewing, although I'm less convinced about ABC boss Paul Lee's belief that we're dying to watch men behaving sadly. (If you thought Man Up was bad, wait until Work It airs).

On the cable side, Boardwalk Empire ended the season on a high, Game of Thrones proved that people »

Justified Season 3 – Back in Action Tease!

Justified Season 3 – Back in Action Tease!

If I could have any superpower imaginable, I would freeze time so I could watch the first two seasons of Justified before finishing this article. There’s so much happening in this quick little teaser that I have no clue about and it’s all my fault for not having seen the series in its entirety. All I can really say for sure is that Timothy Olyphant is back in action as Raylan Givens, the lawman from Lexington, Kentucky with his own brand justice. So I won’t try too hard to pretend I know what I’m talking about and we can just take a look at the preview below.

First off, we get our first look at Desmond Harrington (Dexter) as the new “badass” character, who’s still without a proper name. Next up, we have Raylan getting back on the horse, »

Exclusive: Dread Central Visits the Set of Hostel Part III

22 December 2011 1:27 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

It was back on Friday, September 17, 2010, that I flew to Detroit, Michigan, for a set visit of director Scott Spiegel’s then-filming Hostel Part III (which releases direct-to-dvd via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on December 27th). As my flight descended toward Detroit Metro and I looked through the plane’s windows at the city below, the metropolis seemed a sadly appropriate location to film the third installment in the historically bleak Hostel series.

The gray skies and dormant smokestacks and brick buildings set beneath it effortlessly communicated the economically ravaged Slovakia in which the preceding films took place, and as I would find, my set visit would touch me deeply, more for the ravaged state of this once great American city than the blood the filmmaker would spill in it, however.

With Michigan then offering a 42% tax rebate (higher at the time than any other state’s film incentive program, »

Justified Spoilers, Teases for Season 3: What's Ahead?

21 December 2011 10:43 AM, PST | TVfanatic | See recent TVfanatic news »

Mags Bennett may be dead, but her influence will be strongly felt when Justified returns for season three.

Having seen the first four episodes of season three, I can confidently say fans of this FX drama will not be disappointed in what's to come.

Justified Season 3 Preview

The premiere opens almost immediately with an interaction between Raylan and Boyd that reminds us of why these two characters have the most entertaining, complicated fascinating relationship on television. There are then leftover storylines from Mags' suicide and season two in general that set the early stage, leading to the following developments:

Boyd ending up in jail. Raylan actually trying to get Boyd sprung from jail. A couple considering a new residence. The return of Dickie, Dewey and a slimer-than-ever Wynn Duffy. Neal McDonough as a "businessman" from Detroit with a literal trick of his sleeve. Mykelti Williamson as a local "businessman" with a connection to Arlo, »

New Justified Season 3 TV Spot Gives Our First Looks at New Baddies

20 December 2011 5:38 PM, PST | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

If you’ve been keep tracking of the latest news on the FX Channel’s “Justified”, aka the best damn crime show on TV right now, then you probably already know that “Boomtown” veterans Neal McDonough and Mykelti Williamson will be re-teaming once again as the bad guys on the upcoming third season. Up to now, though, every TV spot for “Justified” has been centered around Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) and Boyd Crowder (Walton Goggins), as they should be, since these two makes the show the powerhouse it is. Then along comes this new spot called “Enemies”, that gives us our first look at both McDonough and Williamson doing their evil thing as Season 3′s latest round of bad guys. I also totally dig the first few seconds with Raylan in the elevator. Great stuff. (And oh yeah, Natalie Zea as the former-once-again Mrs. Raylan Givens gets her moment, too. »

25 Days of Christmas: ‘Go’ takes its own path to Christmas

18 December 2011 8:29 PM, PST | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Throughout the month of December, TV Editor Kate Kulzick and Film Editor Ricky D will review classic Christmas adaptions, posting a total of 13 each, one a day, until the 25th of December.

The catch: They will swap roles as Rick takes on reviews of television Christmas specials and Kate takes on Christmas movies. Today is day 18.

Go (1999)

Directed by Doug Liman

What’s it about?

Supermarket employees get wrapped up in a drug deal gone wrong at Christmas.

Review

Despite the continued popularity of Christmas movies year in and year out, or perhaps because of it, the majority of them feel very much the same. Even the good ones tend to hit on the same topics and themes- family, forgiveness, charity. Go bucks this trend, giving us a film about the holiday exploits of a set of friends. There’s no mention of family, very little of forgiveness, »

Feature: 10 Annoying Things About the 2011 Golden Globe Nominations

15 December 2011 9:10 AM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The Hollywood Foreign Press Association may have done nothing as soul crushing as the nominations for “Burlesque” and “The Tourist” last year but it’s not for lack of trying. Here are their ten biggest offenses, followed by the full list of nominees for this year’s Golden Globes.

10. Actors who really needed a push today to get over the hump to Oscar and didn’t get it — Gary Oldman, Elizabeth Olsen, Kirsten Dunst, Michael Shannon. It now seems likely that Oldman’s title of “Best Actor Never Oscar-Nominated” will continue.

9. The blatant push for trendy new shows on the TV side — Best Drama (80% new), Best Comedy (40%), Best Actor Drama (60%), Best Actress Drama (80%). Yes, it’s been a strong year for new shows, but seriously? The obvious desperation to be #trending is getting pathetic.

8. Right actor, wrong movie — Ryan Gosling has two acting nods, neither for “Drive.” Jessica Chastain »

The underappreciated film gems of 2011

As the world puts together its ‘best of 2011’ round-ups, we salute the films that deserve just a bit more love than they’re getting...

Next week, we’ll be bringing you our film of the year round-up, as voted by the many people who contribute to Den Of Geek. Of course, democracy has its problems, in that it means that some lesser-seen films don’t tend to gravitate up such lists, and with that in mind, we wanted to take some time to salute the many cinematic treats that many not be winning all the awards and the plaudits come end of year round-ups, but really deserve seeking out.

In alphabetical order, then...

Intelligent, atmospheric and thought-provoking: it’s remarkable just how much director Mike Cahill managed to achieve in this low-budget debut feature. Brit Marling delivers a vulnerable and honest performance as Rhoda, a young girl whose »

'Justified': First Season 3 pics, new promo show Raylan and Boyd at odds

14 December 2011 3:17 PM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

The first episode of Season 3 of "Justified" is called "The Gunfighter." We're just going to bask in the awesomeness of that for a minute.

Ok. With that out of the way, we can move on to some of the first images from the new season, which premieres Jan. 17, as well as a new teaser from FX. The theme of both photos and video is "Raylan and Boyd are not happy with each other."

That's not really a big surprise, considering the uneasy relationship Raylan (Timothy Olyphant) and Boyd (Walton Goggins) have had over the last couple years and Boyd's return to the criminal life at the end of Season 2. They found a way to co-exist in the past, but the prospects for that continuing this year don't look very good.

As evidence, we offer the body language in the following three photos. And if that doesn't convince you, hit play »
