Renee Olstead is best known for playing nice Catholic girl Madison Cooperstein on the ABC Family drama The Secret Life of the American Teenager, but she’ll soon be taking on a very different kind of role for a new indie horror project. Olstead recently signed on to play Kaitlin in The Midnight Game, a movie about the dangers of mixing teenagers and witchcraft. Anyone who watched The Craft half as much as I did in high school knows what I’m talking about. [Variety]
Directed by A.D. Calvo and written by Rick Dahl, the film also stars Deborah Twiss (Kick-Ass), Shelby Young (The Social Network), Valentina de Angelis (It’s Kind Of A Funny Story), Spencer Daniels (Start Trek), Guy Wilson (Little Black Book), Nedra McClyde and Robert Romanus, who you may remember as the ticket scalper Mike Damone in Fast Times At Ridgement High.
The Midnight Game is currently shooting in Connecticut. »

Renee Olstead gives HollywoodLife.com the scoop on Madison's 'internal struggle' this season. On The Secret Life of the American Teenager, Madison (Renee Olstead) is learning the hard way that it doesn't pay to be slutty. Lauren (Camille Winbush) and Amy (Shailene Woodley) still haven't forgiven her for sleeping with Lauren's boyfriend Jesse (Austin Stowell) -- and it doesn't look like they're going to give in any time soon. "It's going to be a while before Amy and Lauren let her back in the friend circle," Renee tells HollywoodLife.com exclusively. "At her core, she's still a follower," Renee says of Madison. "By sleeping with her friend's boyfriend, she was just trying to validate herself. I think she validates herself through other people, and that's something she's never strayed too far from. By nature, she's someone who wants to get approval from other people." Renee says Madison will spend the »

Renee loves fashion -- and it shows -- but she tells HollywoodLife.com it's important to keep it all in perspective. Renee Olstead couldn't have looked any less like her Secret Life of the American Teenager character April 10 at Nylon's 13th anniversary celebration in Hollywood. She looked amazing in an Opening Ceremony dress, paired with a Comme de Garcon jacket and Jeffrey Campbell shoes — but it might surprise her fans to learn that Renee, who describes her personal style as "quirky," has some very strong opinions when it comes to fashion's place in our lives. "I love fashion, and I love dressing up, but I don't think it's a necessity," says Renee, who regularly blogs for The Huffington Post about issues affecting teens and young adults. "I think we need to remind people they aren't their handbags. It doesn't speak to what kind of person you are or what your values are. »

Plus, in a 'Secret Life' first, the entire episode went by without anyone saying the word 'sex!' Like, not even once! "Does everybody think I'm stupid?" That rhetorical question -- posed by Amy (Shailene Woodley) on the March 26 spring premiere of The Secret Life Of The American Teenager -- really could have been asked by anyone on the show. Because, on some level, they were all a little bit stupid. At least this week. Grace (Megan Park) was stupid for thinking she could successfully carry on a relationship with Daniel, while still harboring feelings for Jack (Greg Finley). Wait, not just harboring feelings -- acting on those feelings. Daniel wasted no time dumping Grace, prompting her to enroll in summer school with Adrian (Francia Raisa) for some reason. I'm not going to lie, I didn't follow the logic with that one. Meanwhile, the rest of the gang faced the consequences of their partner-swapping actions, »
