The biggest buzz currently in the Dutch film industry is the upcoming premiere of Reinout Oerlemans' sophomore feature "Nova Zembla", a large-scale historical drama which is also the first Dutch movie to be filmed with the new 3D technology. The story concerns the true-life travel of Willem Barentsz, who in 1596 tried to find a shorter shipping route to India by going North over Russia through uncharted waters. The ship and its crew got surprisingly far, managing to round the Northern tip of the island Nova Zembla before getting irrevocably stuck in the ice. When I got the press release for Love Life (aka Stricken), I didn’t read it… I like to judge books by their covers and this one was littered with boobies and a naked man! Little did I know I’d need tissues for a whole other reason by the time Love Life had come to a close. I don’t know who Yellow Knife (the distributors) are but if this is the drama, the calibre of film they’re bringing to the UK market then perhaps they’re a label to watch.

Dutch maker of shows including Test the Nation and The Biggest Loser was seen as an attractive acquisition for ITV

Dutch-based international production group Eyeworks, maker of shows including Test the Nation and The Biggest Loser, has decided not to sell up following a strategic review conducted by Goldman Sachs.

With offices in 17 countries and a large range of reality and fiction formats Eyeworks had been considered an attractive acquisition for companies such as ITV which is desperate to boost its international production operation.

Eyeworks, co-founded by former Endemol chief Joop van den Ende's investment company Ende & Deitmers in 2001, said it received a "number of approaches by several parties" which had prompted it to call in Goldman Sachs to assess all strategic options.
