'Modern Family' Season 4 finale: 'Goodnight, Gracie' ends with a Dunphy funeral

17 hours ago | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

It takes a self-assured comedy to end a season with a funeral for a character the audience has never met, which is exactly what "Modern Family" does. Wrapping up its fourth season on Wednesday (May 22), the ABC sitcom remains one of TV's most watched comedies, knowing that, at this point in its run, it can do just about whatever it darn well pleases.

So, the show kills off Grandma Gracie Dunphy, a character we've never met and therefore find little to be moved by with her death. Or so it would seem. At the onset of the episode, as the entire Dunphy-Pritchett clan descends upon Florida to mourn, not even the woman's son or husband seem that torn up about their loss. True, Claire (Julie Bowen) has an aside in the cold open about the death not being unexpected, but the lack of palpable grief from Phil (Ty Burrell) or »

'Modern Family' Star's Crazy Fan Encounter

22 May 2013 12:39 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Tonight marks the end of another successful season of "Modern Family." While the ABC series itself is full of ridiculous storylines, Ed O'Neill -- who plays family patriarch Jay Pritchett -- has had his fair share of crazy real-life moments.

While at the 2013 Entertainment Weekly & ABC-tv New York Upfronts party last week, O'Neill let HuffPost TV in on the most bizarre fan encounter he ever had.

"This guy wanted me to take a picture with his wife. It was in a very public place, like a state fair. So I put my arm around her shoulder and he said, 'Grab her t**,'" O'Neill said with a laugh. "She had great big breasts. He was like, 'Grab them! It'll be a great picture!' and I said, 'That's a lawsuit.'"

Actress Sofia Vergara, who plays Jay's wife Gloria on "Modern Family," certainly isn't shy about the subject herself. "I am a 32F boob, »

This year's reminder list of those eligible for Emmys will feature 25 famous folk who have yet to hear their names called. What will it take to get any of them off of Emmy's waiting list? Some have had lengthy television careers (Mark Harmon, Ed O'Neill, Katey Sagal, Henry Winkler). Others have amassed an impressive number of nominations in a short period of time without ever prevailing (Michael C. Hall, Jon Hamm, Amy Poehler). And, unbelievably, four of them have been inducted into the TV academy's Hall of Fame (Diahann Carroll, Chuck Lorre, Garry Marshall, Bob Newhart) but still have no Emmys on their awards laden mantles. Below, take a tour through our photo gallery of these Emmy also-rans.  »

Tying The Knot?

16 May 2013 1:34 PM, PDT | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

Could Cam and Mitch finally get hitched next season on "Modern Family"? Ed O'Neill, who plays Jay Pritchett, thinks it's in the cards.

At the Entertainment Weekly & ABC-tv New York Upfronts party this week, the "Modern Family" star said he wouldn't rule out the possibility of his onscreen son Mitch (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and his partner Cam (Eric Stonestreet) getting married in the upcoming fifth season of the ABC series.

"That I don't know about, but it's not a bad bet," O'Neill told The Huffington Post. "I didn't think of that! Because, you know, Jesse's getting married this summer. You think he'll be wearing a bow tie?"

O'Neill isn't the only who's pushing for the couple to tie the knot. This week, Aclu Action, the advocacy arm of the civil liberties group, launched a campaign in support of an onscreen wedding for Mitch and Cam.

3 April 2013 2:46 PM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

The documentary "The Good Son," which will be released by SnagFilms (Indiewire's parent company) this summer, tells the story of world-famous boxing champion Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini and the fight that changed his life. Based on Mark Kriegel's book of the same name, the film hosted a special family and friends screening March 28 at the Linwood Theater in Hollywood. Directed by Jesse James Miller ("Uganda Rising"), "The Good Son" revisits the unforgettable fight between Mancini and Korean fighter Duk Koo Kim 30 years ago. After Mancini knocked Kim out in the 14th round, Kim fell into a coma; days later, he was taken off life support. Following Kim's death, both his mother and the fight referee committed suicide, leaving Mancini shattered and a deeply changed man. "The Good Son" features first-ever interviews from Kim's wife and son, as well as interviews from Mancini's friends Mickey Rourke and Ed O'Neill. The »

Rich Moore Talks Wreck-It Ralph, available on Blu-ray today

Disney's Oscar-nominated family adventure Wreck-It Ralph arrived on Blu-ray earlier this week. This fun ode to video game nostalgia features John C. Reilly as the voice of Ralph, a pixilated villain who, after some thirty years on the arcade floor, grows tired of his place as the bad guy and decided to go game hoping in hopes of becoming a hero. Naturally, disaster ensues. We recently caught up with director Rich Moore to talk about the film's many classic cameos, and the one's that didn't make the cut.

Here is our conversation, where Rich Moore reveals his love of Tapper, Dirk from Dragon's Layer, and the fact that we may just see Mario in the sequel.

Were you surprised to see a resurgence in the popularity of Tapper after the film came out in theaters last year? The old guy's started »

'Modern Family': David Faustino Guests, No Scenes With Ed O'Neill

21 February 2013 2:06 AM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

It was the "Married ... With Children" reunion that wasn't on "Modern Family" as Bud Bundy appeared on the same show as his TV father, Al Bundy, but neither of them shared any screen time. Instead, David Faustino played an old college classmate of Claire's nicknamed "Tater."

Phil mistakenly took Tater as the one person to have ever break up with Claire -- making Phil her rebound guy -- when it was really the dashing professor at the party. Jay was too busy being a better parent to Manny than Ed O'Neill had ever been to Kelly and Bud on "Married."

Stil, it would have been nice to see them share at least one scene. Maybe now that Faustino's Tater is in the show's world, he can run into Claire again, and this time she could be with her father. Even without the "Married" reunion, Screencrush enjoyed all the cameo appearances in this week's episode. »

Modern Family: Season Four Ratings

15 February 2013 11:27 AM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

Last season, Modern Family's ratings were even better than the year before. Will they continue to grow or could they possibly fall low enough for it to be cancelled? Nah. Still, it's fun to track the ratings each week.

The fourth season of Modern Family typically airs Wednesday nights at 9pm on the ABC network. Once again, the cast includes Ed O'Neill, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Julie Bowen, Sofia Vergara, Ty Burrell, Ariel Winter, Sarah Hyland, Rico Rodriguez, and Nolan Gould.

Below are the TV show's ratings for the 2012-13 season, the best way to tell if Modern Family is going to be cancelled or renewed for a fifth season (not that it seems to be in any real danger).

These figures will be updated as the weeks progress so be sure to bookmark and return to this page: »

Second Opinion - Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

9 February 2013 2:49 PM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Wreck-It Ralph, 2012.

Directed by Rich Moore.

Featuring the voice talents of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Mindy Kaling, Alan Tudyk, Jack McBrayer, Joe Lo Truglio, Ed O'Neill and Dennis Haysbert.

Synopsis:

A video game character looks to change his image as he tires of being "the bad guy".

When I saw the trailers for Wreck-It Ralph it seemed fun, but not overwhelmingly 'funny', and whilst it isn't the funniest animated film I've seen there are a great number of laughs to be had.

The film follows the title character, Ralph, who is the villain of an 80s arcade game, 'Fix-It Felix, Jr'. Ralph feels unappreciated in his role as once the arcade closes down for the evening, Felix is championed by the games other characters whilst Ralph is shunned and lives in the garbage heap. After a party is held in Felix's honour on the game's anniversary and Ralph isn't invited, »

Movie Review - Wreck-It Ralph (2012)

Wreck-It Ralph, 2012.

Directed by Rich Moore.

Featuring the voice talents of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jane Lynch, Jack McBrayer, Alan Tudyk, Mindy Kaling, Joe Lo Truglio, Ed O'Neill and Dennis Haysbert.

Synopsis:

A video game villain wants to be a hero and sets out to fulfill his dream, but his quest brings havoc to the whole arcade where he lives.

When the trailer was released for Wreck-It Ralph, I immediately knew I was going to love it. As someone who grew up going down to the local bowling alley to play the arcades rather than tackle the pins, this was a movie that was right up my street as an homage to all the things I love about video games. But with a lot of personal hype, could Wreck-It Ralph live up to its expectations?

First off, it should be noted that the trailer for the movie caught a »

Sofia Vergara Talks Giving Birth On 'Modern Family'

16 January 2013 1:13 PM, PST | Huffington Post | See recent Huffington Post news »

A very pregnant Gloria (Sofia Vergara) has been in a hormonal rage for the entirety of Season 4 of "Modern Family."

And while Gloria has yet to give what is sure to be a very vocal birth on the series, Vergara told HuffPost TV via phone that the scene itself was filmed over two months ago.

"It was fun. It was a great episode," Vergara, who is currently promoting Diet Pepsi, said. "You know how they do everything in 'Modern Family' -- very funny."

Interestingly enough, Vergara said no one freaks out about her birth more than the toughest guy on the show. "Jay will be more worried than anyone," she said of her on-screen husband, played by Ed O'Neill.
