2012 Sundance Predictions: Ted Koland's Lumpy

10 November 2011 2:00 PM, PST | ioncinema | See recent ioncinema news »

#38. Lumpy - Ted Koland First-time helmer Ted Koland's Minnesota-shot dramedy (featured on IndieWIRE - see the production pic above) happens to feature a good grab-bag of acting names (Justin Long, Tyler Labine, Addison Timlin, Frances O'Connor and Park City favorite Jess Weixler) and the logline sounds somewhat savoury - canceled wedding, followed by shock and surprise might come across as sincere, slightly dark and poignant. Depending on the film's tone, Lumpy might find itself in the Midnight section or Premieres category. Gist: The best man at Scott (Long) and Kristin's (Weixler) Arizona destination wedding, Lumpy (Labine) is the life of the party, until a long, indulgent night leads to his untimely death. Forced to cancel their honeymoon and fly back to Minneapolis to arrange for his funeral, Scott and Kristin meet Ramsey (Timlin) and learn that Lumpy isn't quite who they thought he was. This Week In Trailers: Four, The Hunter, Eames: The Architect and the Painter, Roadie, Abschiede

5 November 2011 7:00 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Trailers are an under-appreciated art form insofar that many times they’re seen as vehicles for showing footage, explaining films away, or showing their hand about what moviegoers can expect. Foreign, domestic, independent, big budget: I celebrate all levels of trailers and hopefully this column will satisfactorily give you a baseline of what beta wave I’m operating on, because what better way to hone your skills as a thoughtful moviegoer than by deconstructing these little pieces of advertising? Some of the best authors will tell you that writing a short story is a lot harder than writing a long one, that you have to weigh every sentence. What better medium to see how this theory plays itself out beyond that than with movie trailers? The Hunter Trailer This certainly has a nice pedigree. Teaser Trailer for The Hunter Starring Willem Dafoe

27 July 2011 3:58 PM, PDT | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

The teaser trailer for Australian director Daniel Nettheim's adaptation of The Hunter is now available online. Based on the novel by Julia Leigh (who directed this year's Cannes-entry Sleeping Beauty starring Emily Browning), The Hunter tells the story of Martin David (played by Willem Dafoe), a mysterious man who is in search of the last Tasmanian tiger known to exist. While this may sound like a straightforward enough narrative, the twist comes from the fact that David must keep his employer and true intent a secret from suspicious townspeople. Hit the jump to check out the trailer which features some really nice cinematography combined with enough foreboding for two teaser trailers. In addition to Dafoe, The Hunter also stars Sam Neill and Frances O'Connor. The film is scheduled to premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival which runs from September 8th - 18th. Willem Dafoe in The Hunter There aren't a ton of new trailers to include with these Toronto previews so whenever I can, I will, and today we have one such example as I have an international teaser trailer for The Hunter starring Willem Dafoe as Martin, a mercenary sent from Europe by an anonymous biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a dramatic hunt for the last Tasmanian Tiger. The film is based on the novel by Julia Leigh -- who just so happened to direct the upcoming release Sleeping Beauty (my Cannes review here) -- and I've included a lengthier synopsis below the second image and trailer at the end of this post.

The film co-stars Frances O'Connor (A.I.: Artificial Intelligence) and Sam Neill (Daybreakers) and is directed by Australian helmer Daniel Nettheim and comes from the producers of Animal Kingdom. Entertainment One will be releasing it in Australia »

‘The Hunter’ Trailer: Willem Dafoe Pursues the Last Tasmanian Tiger

27 July 2011 11:05 AM, PDT | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Our first word on The Hunter came late last year when we learned that Daniel Nettheim would direct Sam Neill, Willem Dafoe, Frances O'Connor and more in an adaptation of Julia Leigh's novel of the same name. Willem Dafoe plays a character who claims to be on the hunt for one thing, but is in reality working for a larger entity and seeks a more specific game: the last Tasmanian tiger. Now there is a little bit of extra weight behind the project, as Julia Leigh has emerged as the director [1] of the unusual Cannes entry Sleeping Beauty, featuring Emily Browning as a very specific sort of prostitute. Julia Leigh, as best I know, had nothing to do with this adaption of her novel, but the fact that this novel is from her pen certainly adds a layer of interest to The Hunter for me. Terry O’Quinn Joins ABC Musical Drama Hallelujah – Update: Donal Logue Cast

9 March 2011 8:14 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Terry O'Quinn (Lost) joins Jesse L. Martin (Law & Order), Frances O'Connor (Cashmere Mafia), and Arielle Kebbel (The Vampire Diaries) in the cast of Hallelujah, a musical drama pilot set up by Marc Cherry (Desperate Housewives) at ABC.  According to THR, Hallelujah is set in the town of Hallelujah, Tennessee, which is being "torn apart by the forces of good evil" before a mysterious stranger (Martin) comes to town.  O'Quinn is clearly fictionally unable to escape the warring factions of good and evil, but Cherry's take is sure to be land on the lighter side of deep philosophical questions. For those keeping score during pilot season, NBC declined to film a pilot for Odd Jobs, the proposed re-teaming of O'Quinn and Lost co-star Michael Emerson.  Emerson has a new show of his own in Person of Interest. [Update: Donal Logue (Terriers) has joined the cast.  More about Hallelujah after the jump.] The Live Feed provides more detail about the musical nature of the drama, too: »
