Production on Season 2 of the show starts next February in Vancouver. “‘Gabby Duran & The Unsittables’ gives us a bold new heroine, brought to life by the incredibly talented Kylie Cantrall and our top-notch creative team led by showrunners Mike Alber and Gabe Snyder,” said Kory Lunsford, Disney Channel’s vice president of current series.
Alber and Snyder (“Kirby Buckets”) executive produce with Joe Nussbaum (“Just Add Water”).
“We like to do comedy with a high-concept hook to it,” Alber said.

J.K. Simmons, Johnny Simmons (no relation), Brittany Snow and Jane Lynch are set to star in Kevin Pollak's comedy "The Late Bloomer" for Eclectic Pictures and Ineffable Pictures. Filming has begun in Los Angeles ahead of a shift to Bulgaria.
Based on Ken Baker's 2001 memoir "Man Made," the story follows the E! news correspondent's experience of going through puberty for the first time at age thirty after having a pituitary tumor removed.
The benign tumor rested against his pituitary gland and delayed his puberty and normal development. Though the tumor's removal restored him to hormonally normal masculinity, it resulted in him having to experience all the effects of puberty over an extremely condensed three-week period.
Johnny Simmons portrays the lead who works as a sex therapist in an office headed by Lynch's character. Snow portrays the girl next door, while J.K. Simmons and Bello play his suffocating parents.

Awkward., Season 3, Episode 20: “Who I Want to Be”
Written by Lauren Iungerich
Directed by Joe Nussbaum
Airs Tuesdays at 10:30 Pm on MTV
Jenna’s relief at her life returning to its pre-Collin stage took a sharp hit at the end of last week, as Matty clearly indicated he had moved on from their relationship. Combined with Jenna’s guilt over all the pain she had caused during her sanity sabbatical, this latest action seemed to be the universe’s way of telling her that the road to recovery was not over yet. This week’s season finale focuses on Jenna as she tries to come to terms with the changes in her life, in a strong episode that emphasizes the season’s strengths while illuminating a different side of some key characters.
It’s interesting to see Jenna reconcile with herself this week.

After last week’s mess of an episode, last night’s Back in the Game is quite an improvement. Although it doesn’t do everything right, “She. Could. Go. All. The. Way!” successfully sets the show back on track, utilising all of its characters. This week Terry gets the main storyline as we see her dive back into the dating world. At first it is a little odd to watch her struggle with asking Jack out because she is usually so confident, but Terry soon turns this around and then continues to remain strong throughout the episode. Once again, Back in the Game struggles with the message it sends this week. Last week we saw Danny fight through humiliation to...

Tiff’s Midnight Madness program turned 25 this year, and for two and half decades, the hardworking programers have gathered some of the strangest, most terrifying, wild, intriguing and downright entertaining films from around the world. From dark comedies to Japanese gore-fests and indie horror gems, the Midnight Madness program hasn’t lost its edge as one the leading showcases of genre cinema. In its 25-year history, Midnight Madness has introduced adventurous late-night moviegoers to such cult faves as Richard Linklater’s Dazed and Confused and Quentin Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs. But what separates Midnight Madness from, say, Montreal’s three and half week long genre festival Fantasia, is that Tiff selects only ten films to make the cut. In other words, these programmers don’t mess around. Last week I decided that I would post reviews of my personal favourite films that screened in past years. And just like the Tiff programmers,...

News that Disney purchased Lucasfilm would have been a big enough story on its own, but the additional announcement that “Star Wars Episode VII” is already slated for a 2015 release date made this a huge deal with an immediate positive outcome (well, at least we hope it's positive). The past thirteen years have been dark and cloudy for a lot of fans, and while another trilogy could in fact be a new hope for us all, there is a fairness to any skepticism regarding this sudden development. However, there is sort of an ironic twist to Disney being the company to take over the property. While it isn't out of left field given that Disney theme parks have featured “Star Wars” attractions, events and merchandise for 25 years now, the Mouse House seems to be the most agreeable of buyers given what we've seen them do previously with their acquisitions of The Muppets,...

Though he'll be making a quick trip back to Middle Earth reprising his role of Frodo Baggins in a cameo in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, Elijah Wood has mostly shed his on-screen hobbit persona and has moved on to other projects. He's starring in the FX comedy series "Wilfred," plays a psycho killer in the remake of Maniac, and now has taken the lead role in a comedy called The Late Bloomer based on an amazing true story. He's also been busy on the business side of things, as Deadline reports the actor has formed a new production company called The Woodshed focusing on indie horror and genre films. Cool! Written by Joe Nussbaum and Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove, The Late Bloomer is a true story based on Ken Baker's memoir about a man who is almost thirty years old when he realizes that he has a...

Elijah Wood is set to as the lead in the upcoming The Late Bloomer comedy which comes from director Randall Einhorn. That, my friends, sounds pretty cool at this moment, because we will finally have a chance to watch The Hobbit star as a man (close to age 30) who hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty. Cheers!
The Late Bloomer is based on the 2001 acclaimed memoir Man Made: A Memoir of My Body written by Ken Baker, while Joe Nussbaum and Paul Kaplan & Mark Torgove are on board to adapt that story for a big screen.
So, Wood will star in the true story of a man who found out at close to age 30 that he hadn’t yet totally undergone puberty but when the medical condition preventing it was removed, in several short, overwhelming weeks did so.

Elijah Wood will star in The Late Bloomer. The Lord of the Rings actor will reunite with Wilfred director Randall Einhorn on the comedy, reports Variety. The film will be based on the true story of a man in his late 20s who discovers that - owing to a medical condition - he never properly went through puberty. When the final stages are induced, he experiences several weeks of rapid and almost overwhelming physical changes. Paul Kaplan and Mark Torgove have rewritten Joe Nussbaum's original draft of the script. "The Late Bloomer is the type of wonderful heartfelt comedy that I like to engage in," said Einhorn in a statement. "Puberty can be difficult at best and has the (more)...

Based on the 2001 non-fiction book "Man Made: A Memoir of My Body" by Ken Baker, the film will center on a 30-year-old man (Wood) who discovers he never completed puberty. When the medical condition preventing him from reaching full physical maturity is resolved, he's forced to deal with the rapid changes that result. The book was adapted for the screen by Joe Nussbaum ("George Lucas in Love")...

Awkward., Season 2, Episode 10: “Pick Me, Choose Me, Love Me”
Written by Lauren Iungerich
Directed by Joe Nussbaum
Airs Thursdays at 10:30 Pm on MTV
The explosion in reality television programming in North America over the last decade is something that ostensibly hasn’t gone unnoticed by anyone. There have been numerous theories that have attempted to explain the runaway success that such shows have garnered, the most popular of which seems to be the idea that people enjoy watching others go through the trials and tribulations of life, both as a vicarious form of entertainment, and as a potential learning tool. The adverse effects of opening up one’s life to the public, however, is a subject that is often left unexplored. With Jenna’s unmasking of her blog last week, however, this episode explores the fallout of her decision amongst all affected parties, leading to a strong episode...

Betrayal is an emotion that never elicits a healthy response. While Awkward. explored how Jake reacted to the news of Jenna and Matty’s consummated relationship last week, this week sees him having to come to terms with what he witnessed following Ally’s wedding, and the weight of multiple betrayals, and the show continues to prove its capabilities by making what could have been a predictable plot path into a continually interesting storyline.

All one has to do to determine the future big screen prospects of Russell Brand is to simply look at the titles at some of the movies he's been attached to: "Rentaghost," "Hauntrepreneur," "The President Stole My Girlfriend" (seriously), "Man That Rocks The Cradle" and earlier this week, "Pierre Pierre" (though of all these flicks, this one is the promising). And you can now add "Cupid" to the list. The funnyman will star in the Warner Bros. project with a script from Joe Nussbaum, whose credits include "Prom" and "Sydney White," which should be warning enough to any rational person. But alas, they aren't, and Brand will play a cynical Cupid who is forced to create an ideal romance. [Insert Katy Perry joke here.] Sounds pretty dreadful to us to be honest, and it's somewhat fitting that Disney figured out a way to properly utilize Brand's outsized personality by casting him as...

After replacing Jim Carrey in the raunchy comedy Pierre Pierre from Borat and The Dictator director Larry Charles, it looks like Russell Brand is taking on even more comedy roles. Variety reports Brand is attached to star in and produce Cupid, a romantic comedy that Warner Bros. picked up based on a pitch by Joe Nussbaum, the director of Prom and Sydney White. The story follows a cynical god of desire, affection and erotic love who is forced to create an ideal romance, but I'm willing to bet he messes it up somehow, or maybe even falls in love with the woman upon whom he is supposed to force another suitor. More below! Knowing Nussbaum's history with feature films doesn't give me me faith, however, his short film George Lucas in Love is one of the best you will ever see. Earlier this week it was reported that comedian Russell Brand would be joining director Larry Charles for his comedy Pierre Pierre. Today, we’ve learnt that the busy actor has been attached to another leading role. The Film Stage is reporting Brand has been tapped to play Cupid in a Warner Bros. film that revolves around the iconic master of love.
Directed by Joe Nussbaum of Prom fame, Cupid will follow a cynical Brand – shocking – on his quest to match the ”perfect” couple. Look for Cupid to be a marshmallow soft romantic comedy with a focus on mass appeal. I hate to jump to conclusions so quickly, but if Arthur was any indication, we may be in for another arduous comedic watch.

Earlier this week it was announced that Russell Brand would play Pierre Pierre for director Larry Charles' next project and now there's word that Warner Bros. has brought the British comedian on-board to play Cupid. The project was pitched by Joe Nussbaum, who last directed the 2011 Disney film Prom, and Brand is not only attached to star but he will also serve as a producer. The romantic comedy, according to Variety, will follow Cupid, the Roman god of love, as we works to create "an ideal romance." The trade doesn't say if this means we will soon be seeing Brand rocking a diaper and a quiver filled with red, heart-tipped arrows on his back. The trade doesn't say if Nussbaum will be writing the project as well, though he does have a history as a writer, having previously scripted the short film George Lucas In Love as well as...

Days after Russell Brand's name popped up for the lead in Larry Charles's Borat-esque comedy Pierre Pierre, the Brand X host is now in bed with Warner Bros. to produce and star in Cupid. The film, from Joe Nussbaum (Prom, an Amanda Bynes joint called Sydney White, one of the American Pie spinoffs), is about "a cynical Cupid being forced to create an ideal romance," Variety writes. Brand's sensational vocabulary could certainly serve a caustic Cupid well.

Even though he's going through a divorce, don't ever say that Russell Brand doesn't believe in love.
The "Rock of Ages" star will soon have to learn how to shoot a bow and arrow as he signs on to play the title role in "Cupid," according to Variety.

They say you should never judge a book by its cover — or, in this instance, a film by its press release — but, man, this one’s off to a rough start. Variety have learned that Russell Brand will lead and produce Cupid, a comedic spin on the classic mythical (mythical, right?) love bug that’s been hatched by Prom director Joe Nussbaum. Need I say more?
Yeah, probably. The basic logline follows Cupid — this time, the cynical Cupid — and his quest to “create an ideal romance.” The odds he falls in love with one of his clients, if not the very one meant for said ideal romance, is exponentially low. I don’t want to make the easy and lazy joke about my own expectations matching those very odds, but, here we are.
Cupid? Anything happening on your front?...

Chicago – If your ideal vision of prom is best represented by “Carrie,” then odds are Disney’s “Prom” is not for you. In fact, if you are a high schooler, were a high schooler or may become a high schooler, “Prom” is guaranteed to strike you as monumentally childish. It’s the sort of harmless dreck so mediocre and generic that it could’ve been made in any time period. In a sense, it’s timeless dreck.
See if this sounds familiar: a perky popular overachiever finds herself falling for the long-haired brooding loser with a motorcycle and a criminal record. “He’s a rude, arrogant menace!” she shouts early in the film, thus solidifying that she will undoubtedly end up in his arms at the final fade-out. Seriously, how many “Breakfast Club” retreads and Disneyfied teenage dramas does the human race need?

Without a doubt, Prom will please its teen/tween targeted audience, but some older viewer might groan as the movie rolls along. It reminds of some of the great teen comedies of the 80s and the films of John Hughes, but lacks their edge. Directed by Joe Nussbaum (2004's Sleepover) and written by Katie Wech (who wrote for the Stephen King's Dead Zone TV series), the film stars a fresh-face cast of young actors who seem comfortable in their roles - even if there isn't much room for character development in the teen romance/comedy genre. The cast is led by the talented Aimee Teegarden (who has shown better dramatic range on the incredible Friday Night Lights television series),Thomas McDonell,...

Every once in a while a silly adolescent rom-com comes along that despite our best efforts, we can not help but enjoy. And then a movie like Prom comes along and we remember why we resisted the genre in the first place. With a script that makes Nora Ephron seem delectably art house and a cast of new youngsters that, with any luck, will never be heard from again, Prom is best watched with a group of friends, snickering at its banal clichés - or better yet, not watched at all.
Director Joe Nussbaum’s latest stab at teenage melodrama (his previous efforts being Sleepover and Sydney White) focuses on a group of high school students all counting down to one very important night - you guessed it, Prom. With Peter Jackson now currently in production on The Hobbit, the works of J.R.R. Tolkien are bound to get another boost of publicity as fans revisit his books and newcomers discover them for the very first time. Along with that, author Steve Hillard is betting that there will also be a sudden wave of interest in the life of Tolkien himself. A number of biographies have been written about the man over the years, but Hillard is taking a slightly different approach with his recent novel Mirkwood. His book is a fictional re-invention of Tolkien's life story that finds him dealing with fantastical creatures in real life, and it is also going to be turned into a movie through Emo Films. The synopsis for the book is as follows: "Enter Mirkwood, the Great Forest of Doubt. Bold new author Steve Hillard's wildly original debut, Mirkwood, re-invents J.R.R. Tolkien as a...
