Alien: Covenant Is Much Scarier Than Prometheus Says Fassbender

1 hour ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

When director Ridley Scott rolled out Prometheus in 2012, we knew it was a prequel to the director's 1979 classic Alien, but most fans were disappointed that it didn't connect to the original movie as much as it was set up to. As it turns out, Prometheus was just the beginning, as it was announced that it's follow-up, Alien: Covenant, will kick off a new prequel trilogy that will connect directly to Alien. Production recently wrapped in Australia, and while we don't know when the first footage will be released, star Michael Fassbender teased some interesting details in a new interview.

This weekend, Michael Fassbender returns to the big screen in the DreamWorks drama The Light Between The Oceans, and while promoting that movie in an interview with Collider, the actor offered some new details about Alien: Covenant. The story has been confirmed to be set 10 years after the events of Prometheus, »

Paris — French mini-major Gaumont has poached former Snd exec Alexis Cassanet to co-head the company’s international sales team alongside Adeline Falampin.

Cassanet and Falampin will report to Cécile Gaget, who previously ran international sales and was appointed boss of Gaumont’s international production and distribution in the run-up to Cannes.

During his seven-year tenure at Snd, Cassanet successfully handled sales on high-profile French movies, including Jalil Lespert’s period biopic “Yves Saint Laurent,” comedy hit “La Famille Bélier” and the upcoming Omar-Sy starrer “Two is a Family.” Cassanet also spearheaded sales on a flurry of English-language films, notably Jessica Biel-starrer “The Tall Man,” as well as “The Love Punch” with Pierce Brosnan and Emma Thompson and, more recently, Tommy Wirkola’s sci-fi action thriller “What Happened to Monday” with Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close.

New Alien: Covenant Clip Marks 365 Days Until Release

4 August 2016 1:34 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

If there’s one thing you can say about Ridley Scott films, it is that they are never lacking in marketing. Not wishing to change that formula, the teasing of Alien: Covenant continues, with the release of the tiniest snippet via Facebook to mark the milestone of 365 days until release. For fans of the franchise, it will be a fairly creepy piece of footage featuring, as it does, a shot of one of the characters of the film peacefully snoozing in hyper-sleep. We know, though, that terrible things tend to happen when you hyper-sleep in an Alien movie.

Few specifics are known about the plot of the film, beyond the fact that it revolves around the character played by Michael Fassbender in 2012’s Prometheus. Noomi Rapace also returns to the cast, and is joined by Katherine Waterston, Danny McBride, Billy Crudup, Carmen Ejogo and Uli Latukefu. It is Katherine Waterston »

For those who have been following this release throughout the production process, today is quite significant, because exactly one year from today, on August 4, 2017, Alien: Covenant will be unleashed in theaters. To celebrate the official start of this release countdown, this highly-anticipated sequel's social media channels have sent out a brief video featuring an unidentified cast member who appears to be in a cryogenic sleep pod.

The video was sent out through the movie's Twitter and Facebook pages, although we don't learn too much about the story from this video. Since production wrapped last month, we're not sure when this brief video was taken, or who this unidentified cast member is. Rupture is the latest film from writer-director Steven Shainberg (Secretary) and it had its world premiere at Fantasia. Shainberg often works with complex female characters and stories, and Rupture is no different. In the film, Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy, Prometheus) plays a mother who's abrubtly abducted one day after dropping her son off at the ex's house for the weekend. She's drugged and wakes up in the back of a truck en route to a facility where she's kept imprisioned for experiements in fear. She discovers that she's not alone as she tries to escape her captors, who inject icky drugs into her and speak with hardly any emotion in frightening tale reminescent of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.  I sat down with Shainberg for...

Michael Fassbender says Alien: Covenant is “much scarier than Prometheus”

28 July 2016 8:16 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

With filming wrapping last week, Ridley Scott is now starting the post-production phase of Alien: Covenant, his third venture into the Alien universe after the 1979 sci-fi classic and 2012’s Prometheus. During an interview with Collider, returning star Michael Fassbender has been speaking about the new film, describing it as “much scarier than Prometheus.”

“This Alien is going to be… I’m very excited to see it and everybody in the film was saying this is a film that we all want to see,” states Fassbender. “It’s much scarier than Prometheus, but it’s got the same sort of scope of Prometheus. It’s kind of got more of thriller, imminent disaster feel that Alien had, so it’s kind of a beautiful meeting of both of those films. I’m really excited to see it, I think it’s gonna be super scary number one and then again with the massive scope of Prometheus… »

Michael Fassbender Says ‘Alien: Covenent’ Will Be “Much Scarier Than Prometheus”

26 July 2016 11:25 AM, PDT | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

For fans of the “Alien” franchise, Ridley Scott‘s “Prometheus” was a lot of things, and few were very good. Many found the characterizations frustrating and the story not particularly compelling, and perhaps worst of all, the fear that was embedded in the original 1979 film was largely absent in the prequel. Sure, there was Noomi Rapace‘s […]

Danny McBride shows off the cockpit in Alien: Covenant behind-the-scenes photo

22 July 2016 10:13 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

To celebrate the end of production on Ridley Scott’s Prometheus sequel, Alien: Covenant, star Danny McBride took to Instagram to share a photo of himself on set. In the film, McBride portrays a pilot, so it’s only fitting that the posted picture features the actor in his ship’s cockpit, sporting a space cowboy look. The snapshot was accompanied by a caption that read, “That’s a wrap on #aliencovenant. Ridley is going to scare the shit out of you.” See it here…

Of course, the actor is best known for his comedic work in such films and TV shows as Pineapple Express, This is the End, Eastbound and Down and Vice Principals (which premiered on HBO last week), so Covenant will certainly be new territory for McBride, as it brings him into a darker and more horror-infused environment.

Danny McBride Takes You Behind The Scenes Of Alien: Covenant In New Pic

22 July 2016 6:36 AM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Production has officially wrapped on the set of Alien: Covenant – but not before Danny McBride can share another behind-the-scenes snap.

Set to take the helm of Ridley Scott’s titular space vessel, McBride took to Instagram to post one final look into what we assume to be the cockpit of the Covenant, promising that, “Ridley is going to scare the shit out of you.” Given the awe-inspiring set photos coupled with the promise of a Xenomorph slithering onto the scene, we’re inclined to believe him.

Hoping to correct course after the largely underwhelming Prometheus – it was by no means Alien: Resurrection, but Scott’s prequel spinoff paled in comparison to the director’s original classic – Alien Covenant is the second chapter in the filmmaker’s planned prequel trilogy, one that has subsequently ordered Neill Blomkamp’s proposed Alien sequel to the shelf, for now. Should that plan take shape, »

Alien: Covenant Wraps; Ridley Scott Shares New Set Photo

19 July 2016 12:24 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Back in April, production began on 20th Century Fox's highly-anticipated Alien: Covenant, which not only serves as a sequel to 2012's Prometheus, but starts a new trilogy that will help bridge the gap to the original 1979 classic Alien. Today we have word that production has officially wrapped, along with a final photo from the set with director Ridley Scott and star Katherine Waterston.

The set photo debuted through the Alien franchise's official Twitter, which teased that "the next phase begins" after filming has wrapped. Unfortunately, the photo doesn't reveal too much, although we haven't seen or heard too much from the set since filming began. We did see a set video earlier this month that revealed a Xenomorph, along with previous glimpses of Michael Fassbender and Danny McBride on the set. Unfortunately, we won't be getting a glimpse of this movie at Comic-Con, since 20th Century Fox is skipping the convention entirely. »
