The Stupidest Dark Knight Sequel Rumors Yet

17 December 2008 6:18 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

The England-based newspaper The Sun is reporting that Eddie Murphy has been cast as The Riddler, and Shia Labeouf has been cast as Robin in a sequel to The Dark Knight. Of course, this rumor is complete bullshit. It seems like the rumor mongers aren’t even putting effort into these things anymore. The news story isn’t even the slightest bit believable.

Even if Christopher Nolan had signed on for a third Batman film, which has yet to happen…

Even if he had a story idea for said film, which has yet to happen…

Even if David Goyer and Jonathan Nolan had cranked out a first draft or treatment, which has yet to happen…

Even if he had given said treatment to Warner Bros, which has yet to happen…

Even if Warner Bros loved the pitch and approved the casting choices, which has yet to happen…

Chicago – The Chicago Film Critics Association announced its choices for the best of 2008 on Monday morning. Golden Globe Nominations: Little Love For The Dark Knight

11 December 2008 3:35 PM, PST | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

The 2009 Golden Globe Nominations have been officially announced and it looks like The Dark Knight has been almost totally snubbed by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

That’s right folks, The Dark Knight received just one nomination: a Best Supporting Actor nod for Heath Ledger’s groundbreaking (and freaky) turn as The Joker. No Best Director nomination for Chris Nolan; no Best Screenplay nomination for Chris and Jonathan Nolan; no Best Original Score nomination (although Dark Knight composers Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard are both nominated in that category for work on two other films).

So, want to see which films stole the slots that rightfully belong to Tdk? Check out the  list of the 2009 Golden Globe Nominees in film:

Best Drama

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Frost/Nixon

Revolutionary Road

The Reader

Slumdog Millionaire

Actor (Drama)

Leonardo DiCaprio - Revolutionary Road

Frank Langella - Frost/Nixon

The Dark Knight

Casting Director: John Papsidera Director: Christopher Nolan Writers: Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan Starring: Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman The Pitch: The sequel to 2005's Batman Begins finds the Caped Crusader (Bale) battling two new villains.John Papsidera always relishes the opportunity to work with filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The duo shares a fruitful relationship stretching back to 2000's Memento, the film that put Nolan on Hollywood's map. "Chris has a great instinctual nature about casting that I think comes out of his own knowledge of having participated in acting classes and studied it a bit," says Papsidera. "But also there's just a great kind of intuition. And I think Chris also sees that intuition in me. We relate to one another on that level and don't overthink the process." Naturally, Papsidera was thrilled when he got wind that The Dark Knight, »

Blu-Ray Review: ‘The Dark Knight’ Excels Technically But Misses Special Features

10 December 2008 3:32 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – The most highly anticipated movie of the summer was also the most highly anticipated Blu-Ray release of the year and that was before the film had even hit theaters. The hype paid off in critical acclaim and commercial success, and audiences should be satisfied with “The Dark Knight” on Blu-Ray, if not quite as blown away as they were at the multiplex.

In one of the most brilliant marketing decisions of the year, Warner Brothers included the first six minutes of “The Dark Knight” in high-definition 1080p on their special edition Blu-Ray release of “Batman Begins” earlier this year, giving audiences a taste of what the sequel would look like on the next-gen format. Most of us, heavily under the influence of the incredible viral marketing and hype for the biggest movie of the decade, watched those six minutes more than any other part of the “Batman Begins” Blu-Ray release. »

Top Ten Reasons to Make 'Batman 3' and Why Chris Nolan Needs To Direct It

23 November 2008 11:27 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Top 10 Reasons to Make Batman 3 and Why Chris Nolan Needs To Direct It Last week David brought us a top ten list of reasons Not to make Batman 3 and even though we all pretty much agree a third film will be made and fully expect Christopher Nolan and team back to make it, the serious points in David's piece do make a whole lot of sense. However, why be pessimistic when you can be optimistic? After reviewing the Blu-ray edition of The Dark Knight this weekend (read here) I couldn't help but put together a list of the ten reasons why Batman 3 should be made since I can't think of another comic book-based film outside of Watchmen that I want to see. So here are my top ten reasons why Batman 3 should be made and I hope you have more to offer in the comments below. Because to not do »

Download 'The Dark Knight' Script as It Nears $1 Billion

11 November 2008 3:41 PM, PST | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight

Photo: Warner Bros. The Dark Knight made $24,290 on Thursday, November 6. Its weekend receipts are still not known, but it was only shown on 125 here in the States so I can't assume it is going to be a huge number. However, $992,811,316 is a Huge number and that is The Dark Knight's current foreign tally made up of $528,315,892 domestically and $464,495,424 from foreign markets. The film may still be $72,472,296 shy of Titanic's #1 spot at the top of the all-time box office, but to be less than $8 million away from $1 billion isn't a bad consolation prize. As of right now The Dark Knight is fourth in all-time worldwide gross with the top five looking like this: Titanic ($1.842 billion) The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ($1.119 billion) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($1.066 billion) The Dark Knight ($992.8 million) Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone ($976.5 million) I swear to you, »

The Terminator Salvation Script Is Good Apparently

When Jonathan Nolan was confirmed as the lead writer on Terminator Salvation everyone took a huge sigh of relief. Jonathan was one of the writers behind The Dark Knight (which was rather good) and The Prestige (which was also rather good) so it didn't look like we had anything to worry about. There Should Not be a 'Dark Knight' Sequel

9 September 2008 4:10 AM, PDT | Rope of Silicon | See recent Rope Of Silicon news »

Photo: Warner Bros. Two weeks after The Dark Knight was released the first widely spread lie about a sequel that wasn't even greenlit made its way around the Internet. Johnny Depp was going to play The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman was going to play The Penguin. That was on July 31 as regurgitated by The Boston Globe. Since then Brian Austin Green, Angelina Jolie, Cher and Tera Patrick have all been said to be potential villains, and when I say "said" I mean to say someone lied about their potential involvement. The latest episode involving a third Batman film came yesterday as Michael Caine confirmed he can indeed read the British tabloids to MTV and said a Warner exec "told" him that you top Heath Ledger's Joker performance by casting "Johnny Depp as The Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as The Penguin." Whaaa? Shock and awe. You mean to »

Linda Hamilton Is Not In Terminator 4

7 August 2008 11:54 AM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Linda Hamilton… What a woman.

Not only did she have the courage to marry James Cameron, she also had the cojones to turn down Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines.

Of course no doubt part of the reason she had the cojones to turn down Terminator 3 was because she’s financially set for the rest of her life - having had the courage to divorce Cameron.

Yeah, who hasn’t divorced James Cameron? The guy has been married a billion times. Did I just hear my Avatar premiere tickets getting shredded?

Anyway, I’m getting off topic here - yesterday word spread through the internet like wildfire that Hamilton would be reprising her signature role. Sorry Silent Night fans, it’s not Elisabeth Vincken in Silent Night 2. We’re talking Sarah Connor in Terminator Salvation.

There’s just one problem.

It isn’t true.

Schwarzenegger Isn’t Crazy about Terminator Salvation

5 August 2008 4:45 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

If you were at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, then you know the panel and previewed footage for next summer’s Terminator Salvation went over like gangbusters. The film’s director, McG, went out of his way to get approval from not only the hardcore fanbase, but also filmmakers involved with the previous Terminator films

McG name-dropped James Cameron and the late-great Stan Winston quite often during the panel, along with The Dark Knight and its writer Jonathan Nolan, (who incidentally is performing on-set re-writes for Terminator Salvation.)

Now comes word from the Los Angeles Times that McG was also hoping to win the approval of the original Terminator himself–Arnold Schwarzenegger.

However, it seems the California “Governator” was less-than-impressed with the Salvation footage he saw:

“I still don’t know how it will play out with this one. They showed me some footage, but I don’t have a feel for the movie. »

Johnny Depp As The Riddler In The Dark Knight Sequel?

1 August 2008 11:03 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

(My dear readers, you have permission to treat this rumor as hostile.)

Not two days after wild rumors started circulating that Angelina Jolie was looking to play Catwoman in Christopher Nolan’s third chapter of the Batman Begins series, comes an even wilder rumor from out of the UK that Warner Bros. execs have begun eying top-notch actors Johny Depp and Oscar-winner Philip Seymour Hoffman for the roles of The Riddler and The Penguin in the next Bat-flick

Don’T Drink The Kool-aid Just Yet. For every new rumor of which villains will be featured in the next Batman film, comes another statement from Dark Knight scribes Jonathan Nolan and David S. Goyer, saying that they are trying Not to take the obvious route of throwing the second-most iconic villains from Batman’s rogue gallery into the next film. However, as Spider-Man 3 taught us all, when a franchise reaches a certain $tature, »

Comic-Con ‘08: Terminator Salvation Panel

26 July 2008 1:30 PM, PDT | ScreenRant.com | See recent Screen Rant news »

Liveblogging the Terminator Salvation movie panel at Comic-Con 2008.

McG came out and said they’re in the middle of photography in New Mexico right now. Said they weren’t excited about making Terminator 4, they were excited about a new beginning and showing us a part of the story we hadn’t seen before.

The script was written by Jonah Nolan who co-wrote The Dark Knight. McG consulted with James Cameron, Arnold Schwarzennegar and Stan Winston. He understands the trepidation about the movie.

He said they put the picture first at all times.

He hired Christian Bale to give the film credibility and got him on the phone although Bale is currently in Japan.

They should what could be called an extended trailer and it looked damn good. No CGI, tons of action but it didn’t look cheesy at all. [I think we have a winner, folks. - Vic]

Common, Bryce Dallas Howard, Moon Bloodgood, Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington are in attendance. »
