Home and Away star Ada Nicodemou has revealed that her character Leah Patterson-Baker will not be getting pregnant after all. Nicodemou and husband Chrys Xipolitas are currently expecting their first child together, and reports had suggested that the pregnancy would be written into Home and Away with a baby storyline for Leah. Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou has divulged that her character Leah tries online dating. Nicodemou teased to TV Week that the date, encouraged by Roo (Georgie Parker), is "really embarrassing" after she gets drunk in Angelo's. "She goes out on a date, and - of course - she's at Angelo's - and she starts drinking because she's so bored," she explained. Home and Away bad boy Brax is in for a shock as he realises that his loyal friend Leah Patterson-Baker has fallen for him. Brax is recovering in hospital following a mugging and a tough cage fight when Leah (Ada Nicodemou) pays him a visit and reveals just how much she cares. When a concerned Leah grabs Brax's arm as he lies in his hospital bed, it's clear that she has started to regard him as more than just a friend. Home and Away's script producer Louise Bowes has admitted that writing Ada Nicodemou's pregnancy into the show has been challenging. Home and Away's Ada Nicodemou has revealed that she is not sure how her pregnancy will be written into the show. The Australian actress, who announced last week that she is 15 weeks pregnant to husband Chrys Xipolitas, said that the news that she is expecting her first baby came as a surprise to everyone. Nicodemou told The Daily Telegraph: "I sprung it on them like I did everyone else, so they're rewriting as we speak. The producer knew because I had to go through IVF. I don't know what they're going to do." Australian actress Ada Nicodemou is pregnant with her first child after undergoing a course of in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

The Home and Away star and her husband Chrys Xipolitas, who briefly split in 2010, have been secretly trying for a baby for a year but turned to IVF when their attempts failed.

Nicodemou fell pregnant on the first course of the treatment and the couple is looking forward to becoming parents in August.

The actress tells New Idea magazine, "We'd been trying for a year... and I was so focused on getting pregnant I couldn't think of anyone else - it's all I've been talking about for years.

"In the end, IVF was seriously the best thing we did. It doesn't usually happen on the first go and we didn't want to get our hopes up too much, but we were very lucky. I'm really looking forward to it - I just wish we didn't have to wait another 27 weeks!

"Everything happens for a reason. This is the right time for us to have a baby. We've been through some difficulties and come out all the stronger." »

Home and Away bad boy Brax will begin taking part in cage fights in a forthcoming storyline, it has been revealed. The businessman embarks on the surprising new path as he wants some quick cash to pay back Leah Patterson-Baker (Ada Nicodemou) after she gave money to Geoffrey King on his behalf. The 34-year-old Australian actress, who is currently hosting matchmaking TV series Please Marry My Boy, said that she knows what true love means due to the problems she and her husband Chrys Xipolitas have survived. Call for entries: Newtown Flicks Film Festival

The Newtown Flicks Film Festival hasput out its call for entries for the 2012 festival.

Festival director Martin Kelly said: “Newtown Flicks is launching its 6th season and the 2012 festival looks to be the best one yet.”

Judges for the festival include Genevieve Lemon, Garry Maddox, Bruce Beresford and Ada Nicodemou. Dates for the festival have not yet been announced.

Filmmakers will receive 20% of all income from collections.

Design agency Interbrand have created the trailer and artwork for the festival Chris Doyle, design director said: “Our work for Newtown Flicks is more than a labour of love. It’s so satisfying to be able to produce, edit and deliver a piece of film that is not only cost effective, but also celebrates what is at the heart of the festival itself — the growth and encouragement of young independent film makers in Australia.”

The call for entries is now open, until 6 July. »
