Will Smith in Bad Boys

Will Smith could be reuniting with his Bad Boys super-producer Jerry Bruckheimer for Gemini Man, a new film that “centers on an aging assassin who tried to get out of the business but finds himself in the ultimate battle: fighting his own clone who is 25 years younger than him and at the peak of his abilities.”

The Hollywood Reporter report the news of Smith’s potential casting in the film, which is being directed by Ang Lee (Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, Brokeback Mountain, Life Of Pi). Ang Lee to Direct Clone Assassin Thriller ‘Gemini Man’

24 April 2017 6:11 AM, PDT | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Update: Cannes juror Will Smith is now in talks to star in the feature, according to THR.

Riding off the success of Life of Pi, Ang Lee was able to explore his predilection for technology with Bill Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk, and while that high frame-rate experiment didn’t connect with audiences, it thankfully hasn’t take long for another project to get off the ground.

According to THR, he’s in talks to direct the action thriller Gemini Man for Skydance Media. A long-gestating project in Hollywood, it dates back to two decades prior with Curtis Hanson and Mel Gibson previously attached, along with Brian Helgeland, Andrew Niccol and David Benioff all having a hand in the script. The story following an assassin who is out of his prime, but is tasked with fighting his own clone, one that is 25 years younger.

It’s been stuck in development hell for twenty years, but it looks like the action thriller Gemini Man may finally be about to make its way to the big screen, with THR reporting that Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Life of Pi) is in talks to direct for Skydance Productions.

Gemini Man follows an aging assassin who tried to get out of the business but finds himself in the ultimate battle: fighting his own clone who is 25 years younger than him and at the peak of his abilities.

The project was first set up at Disney in 1997, with Tony Scott signing on to direct from a pitch by Darren Lemke. The idea was to have the same actor portray both the assassin and his younger clone using digital effects – something that was deemed impossible at the time due to technological limitations. It then passed through the hands of a host of writers, »

Yep, yet another fleet of giant alien spaceships has Earth surrounded, but Denis Villeneuve’s movie is not your garden variety invasion fantasy. Amy Adams and Jeremy Renner have a limited time to figure out how to communcate with alien creatures whose intentions are a complete unknown. It’s a rare sci-fi thriller that succeeds on a personal and emotional level — while teaching us how to converse in coffee stain hieroglyphics.
