‘Westworld’: ‘Mature’ Trailer Highlights the Nsfw ‘Desires’ of New HBO Drama

5 hours ago | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

HBO dramas are rarely for the faint of heart, and their latest offering sure looks like it’s keeping with tradition. “Westworld,” Jonathan Nolan’s upcoming science fiction drama starring Anthony Hopkins and Evan Rachel Wood, takes place in a theme park where robots and humans walk side by side without one knowing the other. Because of this, the park’s guests allow themselves to push the limitations of the human experience, be it with a gunfight at the O.K. Corral or an old-fashioned foursome in the old west.

The trailer showcases plenty of this, as the series’ cast goes to various extremes to discover the truth about their surroundings and themselves. Co-starring Ed Harris, James Marsden, Jeffrey Wright and Thandie Newton, the new series promises to push the limits itself — the limits of what we can expect from a television show, especially in the visual effects department.

1 August 2016 2:36 PM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

At HBO's TCA presentation over the weekend, new programming chief Casey Bloys was ill-prepared to answer serious questions about their shows' use of sexual violence against women. Thankfully the creators of Westworld have given it a lot of thought. HBO announced Westworld, the new take on Michael Crichton's science fiction western-thriller, will premiere Sunday, October 2 at 9pm. But the creative team, unfortunately, had to follow Bloys' bumbling attempt at answering questions about the trend of sexual violence against women on the cable network. While reporters touched on Game of Thrones and The Night Of, they also brought up Westworld which led Bloys to say, "The point in Westworld is they’re robots...How do you treat a robot with human-like qualities? Is that reflective of how you would treat a human? It's a little bit different than Game of Thrones, where it is human-on-human violence." Except, it kind »
