He spent 3 1/2 years training and performing theatrically in New York City. However, it was on vacation with family near his hometown in North Carolina that he booked his first TV series ("Superboy" (1988)). He made a synchronistic visit to see the nearby Dino De Laurentiis Studios and was spotted by casting mogul Lynn Stalmaster for the role.
