6 February 2013 9:46 AM, PST | Deadline New York | See recent Deadline New York news »

Exclusive: Jim Hecht, the Ice Age: The Meltdown scribe who recently signed on to write The Big Cigar (about Bert Schneider’s attempt to smuggle Black Panthers leader Huey Newton to Cuba by faking a movie) has signed on to rewrite The Grigsbys Go Broke for Paramount and producers Joe Roth and Palak Patel at Revolution. He’s stepping into hallowed ground here, because this was one of the last scripts written by the late great writer-director John Hughes, with whom Roth made Home Alone. Hecht is repped by UTA and The Gotham Group. The script is about a family whose greed takes them from a contented life to move to Mulletville, selling all their possessions to do it. Stripped of their wealth, they have to start all over. »
