In 1956, wrote the screen play for "The Gun and the Quill," a pilot for a proposed TV series about a two-fisted Western lawyer. The series never came to fruition.

After successfully working with Walter Newman on an eleventh hour rewrite of "Underwater," Sturges recruited the screenwriter for "The Magnificent Seven."
