Watch Stephen Colbert School Nelly on Tax Law With 'Debt in Herre'

15 September 2016 8:09 AM, PDT | Rollingstone.com | See recent Rolling Stone news »

The CBS late-night tandem of Stephen Colbert and James Corden joined the fight to help Nelly after news broke that the rapper had been hit with a $2.4 million tax lien.

Both hosts honored the efforts of Nelly fans, who launched a campaign to help the embattled rapper after calculating that he would be able to pay off the IRS if his 2002 hit "Hot in Herre" were streamed over 280 million times on Spotify. Colbert also suggested using the song in a popular viral clip, wickedly placing the song over footage of an overheated, »

Celine Dion Slays Nelly’s ‘Hot in Herre,’ Missy Elliott’s ‘Work It’ on ‘Ellen’ (Video)

12 September 2016 8:38 AM, PDT | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Celine Dion sings a different tune than what she is used on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” Monday. “You sing these ballads all the time and I want you to keep growing as an artist, so we put some rap songs in the prompter and all you have to do is sing the words. However you feel,” DeGeneres told the 47-year-old singer, who seemed to be shocked about her assignment. Dion started out with Nelly’s “Hot in Herre,” followed by Lmfao’s “Shots” and Britney Spears‘ ‘Work Bitch,” which she made a little more PG-13: “I could not go »

Celine Dion Turns Songs Like "Hot in Herre" and "Work, B*tch" Into Gorgeous Ballads

12 September 2016 6:49 AM, PDT | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

We thought we'd died and gone to musical heaven after hearing Celine Dion sing "My Heart Will Go On" for the first time in the '90s. We even thought we'd been born again after listening to her sing a Rihanna-fied version of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat" on The Tonight Show in July. But it wasn't until we heard her belt out a gorgeous, classical version of "Hot in Herre" (yes, the song by Nelly) that we truly appreciated her skills. The singer, who recently honored her late husband at the annual Stand Up to Cancer event, appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on Monday morning where she wowed the audience by putting her own spin on popular rap songs. Watch the video above to witness her slay everything from Missy Elliott's "Work It" to Lmfao's "Shots." »

Celine Dion Sings Rap Songs on The Ellen DeGeneres Show

12 September 2016 5:50 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Is there anything Celine Dion can't do? In July, the 48-year-old singer wowed Jimmy Fallon when she impersonated fellow pop stars Cher, Rihanna and Sia during a game of musical impressions on The Tonight Show. And on Monday's episode of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Dion put her own spin on a few rap songs, including Missy Elliott's "Work It," Lmfao's "Shots (feat. Lil' Jon)" and Nelly's "Hot in Herre." "You sing these ballads all the time," Ellen DeGeneres explained. "I want you to keep growing as an artist, so we put some rap songs in the prompter. All you have to do is sing the words." Dion began with "Hot in Herre," and the audience »

30 years ago today: The Goblin King lured us into ‘Labyrinth’

27 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Labyrinth, starring late rock icon Davie Bowie as the Goblin King, opened in theaters 30 years ago today. Though Labyrinth — a dark, wonderfully weird, glam rock semi-musical populated mostly by puppets — was never going to be a movie that won over a wide audience, it’s still wild to think about how poorly it did upon release given the film now has a secure place in pop culture history and in Bowie’s legacy. It opened at no. 8 at the U.S. box office and earned less than $13 million, barely over half of its reported budget. It was the final film directed by Jim Henson, and in the aftermath of Labyrinth’s poor reception, son Brian said of his father, “that was the closest I've seen him to turning in on himself and getting quite depressed.” Though Henson never got to witness the full fandom that would amass around the movie, »

Hours after the tragic death of YouTube star Christina Grimmie, the community of singers that first helped her share her voice with the world is uniting online to honor her. Years before she placed third on NBC's hit talent competition, The Voice, the 22-year-old rose to prominence on the Internet with highly viewed covers of popular songs like  Miley Cyrus' "Party in the U.S.A." and Nelly's "Just a Dream" with fellow YouTuber Sam Tsui. Her channel ultimately garnered more than three million followers and opened the doors to her touring with Selena Gomez as her opening act and performing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show before ultimately joining Adam Levine's »

The Current Debate: Christian Petzold’s "Phoenix"

27 April 2016 12:01 PM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

The Criterion Collection adds to its handful of contemporary releases this week with Christian Petzold’s Phoenix, a film that has received near-universal acclaim since its 2014 premiere at Tiff, despite a common caveat that its story conceit is exceedingly implausible. Perhaps, as Justin Chang puts it at Variety, “in a movie of exacting subtlety, it sometimes takes the baldest of contrivances to cut straight to the heart of the matter.” He goes on:“World War II has just ended, and Nelly Lenz, a Jewish singer and an Auschwitz survivor, is about to undergo reconstructive surgery after a disfiguring gunshot wound. When she is later reunited with Johnny, the faithless husband who betrayed her to the Nazis to save his own skin, he fails to recognize who she is. Still, he discerns enough of a resemblance to propose a lowly scheme: Nelly — or Esther, as she calls herself — will pass herself »

And the winner of this Knockout Round is… obvious!

Indeed, even if you were severely distracted during the final six-and-a-half* head-to-head showdowns of The Voice‘s tenth season — organizing your tax receipts or folding laundry or contemplating the reasons for Adam Levine’s cotton candy-hued tresses — the mismatches were screamingly obvious.

What Squad? Kevin Hart Should Have Beat Olivia Munn on Lip Sync Battle

15 January 2016 8:02 AM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

After the heady experience of seeing Beyoncé on a Spike TV show, Lip Sync Battle could only come back down to Earth — even with future Psylocke Olivia Munn and Kevin Hart on the stage last night. There were no famous plus-ones, just fame-adjacent ones, like Taylor Swift squad member Jaime King. That's okay! Bringing superstars onto the stage to sing their own song is not what a lip-sync battle is about. As RuPaul has said, it's about who has the biggest charisma, uniqueness, nerve, and talent. So who had it? Let's go to the clips.Battle 1: Olivia Munn's "Dilemma" vs. Kevin Hart's "Omg" Olivia Munn's performance of the gymnasium-dance classic "Dilemma" by Nelly featuring Kelly Rowland is low-key charming. She starts off doing Rowland's vocals before twirling around and donning a red fitted cap, bandanna, and, most importantly, unnecessary Band-Aid. (A Gucci hat would have been better, »

‘Ride Along 2’ Stars Kevin Hart, Olivia Munn Turn ‘Lip Sync Battle’ Into a Drag Race (Video)

14 January 2016 9:43 PM, PST | The Wrap | See recent The Wrap news »

Kevin Hart and Olivia Munn are co-stars in the buddy comedy “Ride Along 2,” but on Thursday’s “Lip Sync Battle” they were mortal enemies. The pair’s competitive nature was in full effect before either contestant had even performed, with Munn complaining that Hart got a louder applause when they were introduced by host LL Cool J than she did. However, her opening act to Nelly and Kelly Rowland’s 2002 hit song, “Dilemma,” saw the actress rapping Nelly’s verses and singing Rowland’s chorus in a performance that was praised by even her rival for its “creativity.” Also »
