I had a few concerns following last week's episode. "Throwdown" blew any doubts I may have had out of the water. In my opinion (the only one that counts since I write the recaps), this was the strongest episode so far. It was well-written, well-plotted, well-acted, and had a great balance of music to story.
The episode starts out with Will and Sue screaming at each other in the auditorium. They scene is filmed in slow motion while they voiceover narration. Sue: "Look at me. I'm elegant even in battle." Will tells us that they've been at each other's throats since a few days before when they met with Figgins for a progress report on their co-chair arrangement. Will is trying to curry favor, but Sue is taking a different tack. She is trying to pit them against each other in an effort to create such a toxic environment that they want to quit. »

The way Sue Sylvester sees it, and don't forget to cup your hand to form a 'C', dividing the glee club is the way to conquer it. Trying to create a racial split, Sue even plays her own minority card, claiming on "Sue's Corner" that she is one sixteenth Comanche! But who would ever believe glee could be so easily relieved? Though Glee's plot points are getting nuttier (a compromised ob-gyn? a Sixteen Candles-esque ploy for panties?), the number of musical numbers are on the rise, and although many are whimsical and fun, nothing came close to the exuberance the 12 clubbers shared when they jammed on Nelly's "Ride With Me." No, it mustn't be the money -- must be the fun! -- Cynthia Wang Tell us: What was your favorite moment of Glee? »

Anaheim, California — It seemed like a perfect opportunity for the lines to be drawn. After all, the lineup for the evening would play perfectly on a variety of rivalries in the world of urban music: rookie vs. veteran, electro-hop vs. sample-driven and even baggy vs. skinny trouser selection.
But instead, the artists that took the stage Saturday night at Los Angeles radio station Power 106 FM's annual Powerhouse concert served as a sampling of the cultural convergence that has trended so heavily over the metropolis' airwaves as of late. In true Powerhouse form, a Latino-dominated crowd filtered in from around Southern California to Anaheim's Honda Center and got their first glimpse at a handful of new artists that have been in that heavy rotation. »

John Mayer made an observation that lead to an interesting exchange via the social networking site. Yesterday, the guitar giant tweeted, "Listening to the hits channel on Sirius. I will reserve criticism but say that every ninth year of a decade really brings the junk." He went on to point out that the charts in 1979, '89 and '99 are all relatively low-quality, and in the meantime, the "2" years ('82, '92 and 2002) all seem to produce greatness. Mayer uses the example of Warrant to throw 1989 under the bus, which is a brilliant strategy considering that their album Dirty Rotten Filthy Stinking Rich was not only gigantic but also represented the predominant trend of the era (that being hair metal). But is it a fair assessment of the decade? And how do those other years measure up?
Mayer is a little unfair to 1979, as the top singles from that year were a mix of disco tracks, »

MTV Movie Awards categories come and go. We once gave out a Golden Popcorn statue for Best Sandwich. But one category that's been around since the beginning and deserves to stay forever is Best Comedic Performance. After all the Best Kisses have been bestowed and the Best Fights have been waged, it's the folks who made us laugh the hardest that might be remembered longest.
From pregnant baby mamas to clueless sorority house mothers, from stoned-out pot dealers to high-strung yes men to hapless secret agents, the 2009 Movie Awards offer quite a collection of side-splitting, guffaw-inducing nominees. Since this is one of the only categories to have neither "Twilight" nor "Slumdog Millionaire" dominating its ranks, it's tempting to »
