"An American Werewolf in London" the Remake!

1 July 2009 7:26 AM, PDT | From Manny the Movie Guy | See recent Manny the Movie Guy news

The 1981 John Landis horror classic "An American Werewolf in London" is being remade by Dimension Films.

Dimension has been in the horror-remake mood lately. The company is releasing "Halloween II" at the end of August, and is developing the reboot of "Hellraiser."

No writer or director has been set for "Werewolf" yet. The original, written and directed by Landis, was a creepily-funny flick that starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two American tourists hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a werewolf.

Take a look at the original trailer, and let's hope that the Dimension remake at least match the creativity of the cult classic:

‘An American Werewolf’ Goes To The Weinstein Company

30 June 2009 11:28 AM, PDT | From FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news

It's not new news that John Landis' classic An American Werewolf In London is on track for a remake.  We've known for a while that some foolish production company would be bank-rolling it even though common wisdom says it's going to suck.  (Or bite.)  But who in Hollywood would be stupid and/or egotistical enough to believe a remake could improve upon (or even replicate) the original's perfect hybrid of horror and humor?  Who?!? BloodyDisgusting reported over the weekend that Landis has sold the remake rights to The Weinstein Company's Dimension Films.  Cue groans from film-lovers around the world. I'm not against remakes in general... if a film can be improved in some way then I say go for it.  If it fails, the original is still available.  But what can be made better here?  As I said above the movie is a near-perfect mix of humor and horror.  The

An American Werewolf…Again

29 June 2009 11:52 PM, PDT | From Atomic Popcorn | See recent Atomic Popcorn news

Here to rip out even more favorite eighties movies is Dimension Films who are ready to snatch up the rights to the John Landis film, An American Werewolf In London. Originally a cult classic that spawned in 1981, the original centered around two American backpackers (played by David Naughton and Griffin Dunne) hiking in the Yorkshire moors attacked by a mysterious animal who turns out to be a werewolf. Naughton ends up terrorizing London while Dunne is a reanimated corpse suggesting ways for Naughton to kill himself and stop the curse (THR).

"Another remake!? It hurtsssss."

Since this news is so ridiculously fresh right now, and barely is starting to get into development, there is nobody attached to write or direct the horror film. With the huge intake of horror remakes that have already been released (Friday the 13th) to ones that are still being made at the moment (Hellraiser) this

An American remake of a London werewolf

29 June 2009 11:28 AM, PDT | From Corona's Coming Attractions | See recent Corona's Coming Attractions news

In 1981 director John Landis' An American Werewolf in London opened in theaters and amazed horror and comedy fans alike. Here was the guy that had just brought the world Animal House a couple of years before, one of the all-time top comedies, and his latest movie perfectly combined two seemingly widespread genres into a fusion of scares and laughs. To this day Rick Baker's Oscar-winning special effects showing us a complete werewolf transformation still rank among some of the best practical FX ever created for a film.

It's coming up to 30 years since the release of American Werewolf. Is the time ripe for a remake?

The horror news website Bloody Disgusting tells us that John Landis thinks it's time. The website has confirmed that Landis is in negotiations with Dimension Films to remake the classic horror film. "Perhaps someone will make a brilliant movie out of it," Landis told the site.

Landis’ Werewolf Getting Remake Treatment?

29 June 2009 11:26 AM, PDT | From TheMovingPicture.net | See recent TheMovingPicture news

While many feel Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes is destroying the horror world with its endless remakes, The Weinstein Company has been doing its fare share too. They’ve remade John Carpenter’s Halloween (with a sequel set to open in August), are developing a Hellraiser update and according to Bloody Disgusting may next be turning to werewolves. The site has received a tip saying the Weinstein’s have acquired the rights to the 1981 John Landis horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London, which is considered by many to be one of the best Werewolf films ever made. In the original, two American tourists in England are attacked by a werewolf that none of the locals will admit exists. It starred David Naughton, Griffin Dunne, Jenny Agutter and John Woodvine. Rick Baker earned an Oscar for his groundbreaking makeup effects. The film spawned a pseudo-sequel in 1997, An American Werewolf in Paris.

Dimension Films To Remake An American Werewolf In London?

29 June 2009 6:12 AM, PDT | From /Film | See recent /Film news

According to Bloody Disgusting, the Weinstein Brothers have purchased the rights to remake An American Werewolf in London from original writer/director John Landis. Dimension Films already has a Hellraiser remake in the works (which can't seem to keep a director on board) and has the second new Halloween film hitting theatres soon. The news that a cash-strapped Landis has sold rights to the Weinsteins (who have been reported to be equally cash-strapped, ironically) will probably cue the question that has cropped up a lot lately: is nothing sacred? The perpetual answer is: not in Hollywood, no. And that's Ok, because we'll always have the original. There's little argument against An American Werewolf in London being one of the best werewolf films ever made; I don't think I could argue that there is a better werewolf picture. The film stars David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as American backpackers who are

'An American Werewolf in London' to Get Remake

28 June 2009 9:05 PM, PDT | From CinemaSpy | See recent CinemaSpy news

While rumors of An American Werewolf in London remake have been floating for a while, it seems as though things may actually be moving forward.

According to Bloody-Disgusting, writer/director John Landis sold the American Werewolf remake rights to Dimension Films, the studio behind such other remakes as Black Christmas, Halloween and The Amityville Horror.

The original 1981 film, starring David Naughton, Griffin Dunne and Jenny Agutter, is a classic of the genre, that deftly blended horror with humor. The film told the story of two American tourists who accidentally wander onto the English moors one night and are attacked by a werewolf that the locals refuse to acknowledge to outsiders.

The film boasted some remarkable and groundbreaking prosthetic effects, and Rick Baker won an Oscar for Best Makeup in 1981. He was the very first recipient of this award, as it was the first year that the category was introduced.

Before the Oscars, They Belonged to Us, Part 1

24 February 2009 3:04 AM, PST | From DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news

Disclaimer: This article may contain sarcasm, irony and “LOLs”; proceed with caution.

It’s time once again for horror at the Oscars. Sunday’s festivities were filled with folks who have worked in the genre and per usual, I feel if it’s a win for Danny Boyle, it is a win for rage-zombie fans everywhere. Seems like a lot of folks this year are veterans of Exorcist: The Beginning, Amityville: A New Generation and Gremlins 2: The New Batch. Of course, the most important genre win would be Greg Cannom, a staple of 80’s horror effects; he worked on such films as Fright Night Part 2, The Lost Boys and The Howling.

Now some movies on this list might be “kinda horror.” These thrillers or genre-friendly frameworks are on the ghoulish cusp and are marked with an asterisk. Some flicks on the list are there because, what the fuck,
