New Earth

Old-skool fans would have been forgiven for being excited at the prospect, given that “New Earth” was a planet mentioned in the 1974 classic Invasion Of The Dinosaurs (though it didn’t actually exist in that story, it was a fake world). But all fans could get excited at »

Horror Cliches Be "Damned"

6 February 2015 9:08 AM, PST | JustPressPlay.net | See recent JustPressPlay news »

Another month, another horror film about possession.

This one takes us down to Columbia where a dysfunctional family finds themselves trapped in a secluded house that has a dark evil within. Best known for horror film sequels, Spanish director Victor Garcia was tapped to direct The Damned (formerly known as Gallows Hill) to bring a certain authenticity to the film. But not even he can breathe any life into this imitation horror film. American David Reynolds (Peter Facinelli) comes to Bogota with his British fiancé Lauren (Sophia Myles) to find his disapproving daughter Jill (Nathalia Ramos) who is hiding from life with her boyfriend Ramon (Sebastian Martinez), a cameraman, and her Columbian aunt Gina (Carolina Guerra), an eager journalist. But a terrible storm leaves this group stranded in the middle of nowhere, with only an isolated house as refuge. The owner of the house, Felipe (Gustavo Angarita), is wary of »

Teaser Trailer: "Spooks: The Greater Good"

29 January 2015 12:23 AM, PST | Dark Horizons | See recent Dark Horizons news »

The TV series "Spooks," also known as "Mi-5," has often been labelled the British equivalent of "24". It was a spy thriller series that ran for ten years and boasted talents that have since made names for themselves in other projects including David Oyelowo, Richard Armitage, Matthew Macfadyen, Iain Glen, Lara Pulver, Sophia Miles, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Keely Hawes, Rupert Penry-Jones, Anna Chancellor and many more.

It was also distinctive because long before "Game of Thrones" and the like, it was not afraid to randomly kill off its core cast members - including its male leading man with the show going through at least four of those across its 86 episode run. Fitting then that 'Thrones' star Kit Harington is the new leading man in the show's jump to the big screen in the new film "Spooks: The Greater Good".

Today, the first trailer and posters for the film have been released, a »

The Interview And A Million Ways To Die In The West Head Up The Razzies Worst Film Nominees

5 January 2015 1:55 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Five days into the new year and the movie awards season is in full swing. A chance to celebrate all of the cinematic gold bestowed upon us by filmmakers over the last 365 days, the majority of awards bodies veer towards the positive. The good, the great and the outstanding movie achievements. Of course, you can’t have yin without yang, and that customary glint of deviousness amidst the showers of compliments will soon be upon us, in the shape of the The Annual Golden Raspberry Awards.

Known informally as The Razzies, the achievements are dished out based on how bad the category nominees performed, and this year’s nominees have now been announced. Seth MacFarlane’s A Million Ways To Die In The West beat out its closest competitors for the esteemed honour of most nominations with a whopping eight altogether. Recent limelight comedy, The Interview, also snagged four nominations across three categories. »

‘The Interview,’ ‘Sex Tape,’ Make Razzies Shortlist

4 January 2015 12:08 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

As the film business gears up to honor the best films of the year at the Academy Awards, the worst are getting recognized, too.

The shortlist for the Razzies, which names the worst films of the year, has been obtained by awards site Gold Derby, listing some of the biggest grossers of the year, like “Transformers: Age of Extinction,” and others that didn’t do so well. The shortlist isn’t a concrete list of the nominations — rather, it’s a preview of the contenders for the dubious honor.

Seth McFarlene’s “A Million Ways to Die” looks like it could be the frontrunner for the awards, popping up eight times. “Sex Tape,” which garnered mostly negative reviews, is listed six times. Seth Rogen and James Franco are both on the list for worst actor for “The Interview,” as well as worst onscreen duo.

The comedy has already expanded to cable VOD, Playstation, Vudu and more theaters nationwide.
