Jimmy's Farm presenter and former BBC agricultural specialist agrees three-year deal with broadcaster

Farmer and BBC food presenter Jimmy Doherty is switching to Channel 4 in a new exclusive deal.

The Jimmy's Farm presenter has signed to Channel 4 for three years. Doherty – a school friend of chef Jamie Oliver – was the BBC's agricultural specialist.

He shot to fame in 2004 with Jimmy's Farm, a series about a 150-acre site specialising in rare-breed pork with its own restaurant and butcher, which he helped set up with £55,000 from Oliver.

He was given more prominence under Jay Hunt when she was BBC1 controller, fronting the popular Jimmy's Food Factory. This featured Doherty trying to recreate industrial food such as processed cheese and squirt cream in his barn.

Hunt is now on gardening leave before joining Channel 4 as chief creative officer early next year.

Jay Hunt faces dilemma over renewal of Gordon Ramsay's Channel 4 deal

17 November 2010 3:28 AM, PST | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Ramsay's contract runs until mid-2011 and new chief creative officer will have to decide if he still has ratings golden touch

The question of whether to renew Gordon Ramsay's exclusive deal with Channel 4 will be one of the biggest decisions awaiting Jay Hunt when she joins as chief creative officer on 5 January.

Ramsay's four-year contract runs until the middle of 2011 and with disappointing figures for his latest Channel 4 series by his impressive standards and lurid media coverage of his personal life and business dealings, Hunt will have to decide if he still has the ratings golden touch.

The unflattering headlines reached a crescendo last week with Ramsay's open letter to his mother-in-law in the pages of the London Evening Standard, in which he revealed he had paid a private detective to investigate his father-in-law and ousted business manager, Chris Hutcheson.
