Over a year ago it was announced that director Gabriele Muccino (Pursuit of Happiness) was going to helm Passengers, a long-in-development sci-fi love story. The film has been at Keanu Reeves‘s own Company Films, with Reeves also intending to star in the project. Now we know Muccino will not be making Passengers, as he was never actually set to direct the film to begin with, according to writer Jon Spaihts. For those of you who are unaware of Passengers, our Cole Abauis so eloquently described it as being “focused on a poor astronaut who wakes up almost a century before everyone else in hyper-sleep, so he also dooms a beautiful woman to loneliness so that he doesn’t have to grow a beard and slowly go crazy. Or so he can woo her with his flowery prose and energetic line delivery.” Earlier today I spoke with Prometheus co-writer Jon Spaihts, who »

Robert Pattinson as Georges Duroy, Uma Thurman as Madeleine Forestier, Bel Ami Robert Pattinson's Georges Duroy is about to be seduced by Uma Thurman's Madeleine Forestier in the Bel Ami online clip below (please scroll down). While getting ready for some erotically charged entertainment, Thurman's Madeleine tries to come up with a new name and origin for Pattinson's Georges, an impoverished ex-soldier thrown into the living rooms (and boudoirs) of Parisian high society. Directed by Nick Ormerod and Declan Donnellan, and adapted by Rachel Bennette from Guy de Maupassant's classic 19th-century novel, Bel Ami also features Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci, Colm Meaney, Natalie Tena, Holliday Grainger, Pip Torrens, James Lance, and Todd Peterson. Bel Ami will be available on VOD in the United States on May 4. It opens in the Us on June 8. Also in 2012, Robert Pattinson will be seen in two other movies: David Cronenberg »

Bel Ami American poster: Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, Christina Ricci As much as I liked the German poster for Bel Ami, the American Bel Ami poster — a sort of reboot of the German version — is even classier thanks to the stylish background. Also, notice that it's the same Robert Pattinson image, but all three leading ladies have had their pictures changed. [Bel Ami extended scenes.] For Uma Thurman, they kept the face but altered the hair and the dress; we now get some cleavage. Kristin Scott Thomas is wearing the same dress, but here she's looking straight at the camera (or at you, looking at the poster). Christina Ricci is wearing what I believe is the same dress, but here her garment is much more brightly colored than in the German poster. Also, like Scott Thomas, Ricci is looking is straight at the camera. In the German poster, both Scott Thomas and Ricci were looking sideways. »

Bel Ami Blu-ray: Robert Pattinson is "Robert Pattison" Bel Ami, starring Robert Pattinson, Uma Thurman, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Christina Ricci comes out on DVD/Blu-ray in the United Kingdom on July 23 as per Amazon.com. That's good news for Pattinson, Thurman, Scott Thomas, and Ricci fans, but as belamifilm.com has pointed out, there's one glitch: Robert Pattinson is billed as "Robert Pattison" on the DVD cover. We've made that mistake before; our excuse is that we have a — to put it mildly — skeleton editorial staff. For now, it's unclear whether or not DVD distributor StudioCanal will correct the typo. In the United States, Bel Ami will be available on VOD on May 4. Magnolia Pictures will distribute the period comedy-drama in Us theaters on June 8. Even though it had already had special screenings in various Belgian cities, the film had its official World Premiere at the Berlin Film Festival in February. »

When Steven Soderbergh's Traffic came out in 2000, Catherine Zeta-Jones was at the top of her game. She was one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood and only two years away from her first Oscar. In the years since, however, Zeta-Jones hasn't been around nearly as much. She hasn't appeared in a feature film since 2009's The Rebound, but now she's starting to make her comeback. Stephen Frears' Lay The Favorite is currently playing at the Sundance Film Festival, Adam Shankman's Rock of Ages comes out in a few months, and Gabriele Muccino's Playing The Field will be arriving in December. Now, however, she's cemented her comeback: she's working with Soderbergh again. According to Deadline, Zeta-Jones has signed on to star in The Side Effects. A thriller written by Scott Z. Burns (who also scripted Contagion and The Informant!), the thriller is also set to star Blake Lively, »

With the future of FilmDistrict being up in the air, it is no surprise they’ve pushed their next film to the farthest corner of 2012. BoM reports that the romantic comedy Playing the Field, from Seven Pounds and The Pursuit of Happyness director Gabriele Muccino has been pushed from March 9th to December 25th, 2012.
Starring Gerard Butler, Jessica Biel, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Uma Thurman and Dennis Quaid, the film which follows an ex-soccer player turned coach who seems to be in a Desperate Housewives-esque situation with all the soccer moms in his town, will now open up against Leonardo DiCaprio‘s two films, The Great Gatsby and Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained.
In other release date news Sony Pictures has set a July 12th, 2013 release date for Grown Ups 2, Cs reports. Considering I don’t want to waste your time or mine, that is as far I’ll go with that one. »

Catherine Zeta-Jones is all dolled up as a big breasted floozy in the first photo of her character Tulip Heimowitz in the Stephen Frears-directed film “Lay the Favorite.” It’s a first look at the crime-comedy Jones, 42, will star along with Bruce Willis, Rebecca Hall as Beth Raymer, Vince Vaughn and Joshua Jackson. The film is based on Raymer’s memoir of the same name. Jones previously starred in 2009′s The Rebound. Along with ‘Lay the Favorite,” she’s also starring in another comedy, “Playing the Field,” about a washed up athlete who becomes a soccer coach and is tempted by soccer moms. The Gabriele Muccino film stars also Gerard Butler, Uma Thurman, Jessica Biel and Dennis Quaid. Check out her photo from “Lay the Favorite.” »
