How ‘Girls’ Led Director Richard Shepard to the ‘Tokyo Project’ (Exclusive)

13 October 2017 12:26 PM, PDT | Entertainment Tonight | See recent Entertainment Tonight news »

Set in Japan’s capital, Tokyo Project tells the story of a mysterious romance between two strangers (played by Elisabeth Moss and Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they explore the hidden treasures of the city. Written and directed by longtime Girls collaborator Richard Shepard, who helmed several of the HBO series’ standout episodes, the new short film is his way of satisfying an itch for a “pure creative experience.”

In fact, it was his time on Girls that led to Tokyo Project. While on the set of the Tokyo-based season five episode (“Japan”) directed by Jesse Peretz and written by girlfriend and executive producer Jenni Konner, Shepard was inspired by a mix of love for the city and envy about not being involved in the production.

“I was watching them shoot and wishing I was making something cinematic,” he tells Et. “I was motivated by some jealousy that I wasn’t directing the episode.” Responsible for two episodes »

Jon Bernthal provides The Punisher creator’s favourite rendition of the character

10 October 2017 1:07 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The co-creator of The Punisher, Gerry Conway, has said that Jon Bernthal has provided his favourite screen version of the character.

There is a lot of excitement building around the release of Netflix’s upcoming The Punisher series, with fans already seeing a lot they like in actor Jon Bernthal’s performance of the character in Daredevil season 2.

And while the show’s premiere may have been delayed as a result of horrific scenes in Las Vegas recently, Gerry Conway has admitted to Screen Geek that Bernthal tops his list of favourite on screen Punishers.

Asked at Nycc who his favourite on-screen portrayal was, Conway answered:

Jon Bernthal gives The Punisher the kind of pathos that’s underneath the tough guy, and I really like that.”

There is certainly a lot of pressure on Bernthal and indeed the show to live up to fans expectations and not deviate away from »

Rumour: Netflix may delay The Punisher

7 October 2017 3:40 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Earlier this week Marvel and Netflix announced that they had cancelled this weekend’s planned New York Comic Con panel for The Punisher in the wake of the tragic mass shooting in Las Vegas.

During our report, we speculated that Netflix may also opt to postpone the release of the show itself, and now Newsday is reporting that the streaming service could indeed push back the premiere.

Although Netflix was yet to announce an official date for the Marvel series, an October date had been leaked, with speculation pointing to Friday, October 13th. However, according to this new report, we may not have to wait until mid-to-late November, or early December.

Netflix itself is refusing to comment on the speculation, stating simply that: “We never announced a premiere date and have not yet.”

Marvel pulls The Punisher from Nycc in the wake of Las Vegas shooting

Following on from the tragic Las Vegas shooting this past Saturday, Marvel and Netflix have announced that they have decided to pull  the panel for the upcoming series The Punisher from the New York Comic Con schedule.

“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas,” reads the official statement from the companies. “After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”

The Punisher was scheduled to hold its panel this Saturday, October 7th. Rumours have been swirling that the series is set to hit Netflix this month (with October 13th strongly rumoured), so it remains to be seen whether the companies will opt to postpone the release.

Despite the fact we’ve had an official poster and trailer in the past couple of weeks, Netflix continues to keep the release date for its next Marvel series The Punisher tightly under wraps. However, it seems Total Film may not have got the memo, as the latest edition of its magazine suggests that Frank Castle’s solo series will hit the streaming service on October 13th.

Jon Bernthal says The Punisher will take us to “a dark and brutal” corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe

20 September 2017 12:40 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Earlier today Netflix unveiled the first full trailer for The Punisher [see here], and now we have some comments from leading man Jon Bernthal, who has told EW that Frank Castle’s series will take us to the darkest, most brutal corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“This season is much darker as it goes, it gets darker and darker and more visceral. The show takes you on this journey of Frank becoming more and more human again and then shutting off and shutting off and going back to what works for him, and the place where he kind of belongs, and I think that’s a place of solitude and of darkness and destruction. It’s going to get into as dark and as brutal a place as you’ve ever seen in the Marvel world, I can promise you that.”

Elisabeth Moss in First Trailer for HBO's New Short Film 'Tokyo Project'

18 September 2017 6:00 AM, PDT | firstshowing.net | See recent FirstShowing.net news »

"You ever spend the night with a stranger?" HBO has unveiled a trailer for a short film they're debuting this October. Tokyo Project is a 30-minute short from director Richard Shepard (Dom Hemingway, The Hunting Party, The Matador), produced by Lena Dunham. Ebon Moss-Bachrach stars as Sebastian, a man on a business trip to Tokyo. He keeps running into a mysterious woman named Claire, as played by Elisabeth Moss. They eventually hook up, but also end up dealing with their own sordid pasts. Co-starring Shu Kakizawa. This obviously reminds me of Lost in Translation, but hopefully it's a bit different. I am always up for anything with Elisabeth Moss, because she is so talented, and this looks like it could be good. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Richard Shepard's short film Tokyo Project, from YouTube: On a business trip to Tokyo, Japan, Sebastian explores the city with »
