In a break from conventional practice, producers of TV commercials are eagerly casting supporting cast members of Seinfeld even though the show itself has been off the air for nearly two years, the New York Times observed today (Monday). Saatchi & Saatchi exec Tom Lom told the newspaper: "Seinfeld was so long running ... and it's still on the air in reruns. So people remember the characters from the primetime run and still get exposed to the characters through the reruns." Larry Postaer, an exec with the ad agency for Honda, told the Times that he used Phil Morris in his Jackie Chiles getup for a spot because "we thought it might be fun to bring on a celebrity lawyer as a surprise. But the real ones don't do that -- or shouldn't. This gave us someone who is recognized ... and funny." (Morris also appears as Chiles in a Diet Dr. Pepper spot.) »
